Twins purchased the contract of RHP P.J. Walters from Triple-A Rochester.
That means we'll have to wait a little longer for Kyle Gibson to arrive. Walters and Samuel Deduno will join the rotation this weekend, taking the spots vacated by Vance Worley and Pedro Hernandez. He's put up a 3.31 ERA with 46 strikeouts over 54 1/3 innings this season at Rochester. May 23 - 10:37 PM

P.J. Walters has elected free agency.

Walters refused an outright assignment and will attempt to continue his career elsewhere. The 27-year-old posted a 5.69 ERA and 42/22 K/BB ratio in 61 1/3 innings (12 starts) with the Twins this season.

Twins sent RHP P.J. Walters outright to Triple-A Rochester.

The Twins cut six players from their 40-man roster on Wednesday and none were all that surprising. Walters, 27, had a 5.69 ERA and 42/22 K/BB ratio in 61 1/3 innings over 12 starts with the big club this year.

P.J. Walters pitched well in a loss to the Tigers on Saturday, yielding just two runs on four hits over five innings.

Walters racked up five strikeouts while issuing only one walk. All of the damage came in the second inning, when Prince Fielder blasted a solo homer and Jhonny Peralta added an RBI double. Walters will finish the season with a 2-5 record, 5.69 ERA and 42/22 K/BB ratio in 61 2/3 innings of work.

P.J. Walters turned in a decent effort in a no-decision against the Indians on Tuesday, surrendering four runs (two earned) on eight hits over five-plus innings.

Walters fanned three and issued one free pass. He carried a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning, when a pair of unearned runs put him on the hook for the loss. The right-hander has struggled to find any sort of consistency through his first nine starts with Minnesota and will carry an unimpressive 2-4 record and 6.39 ERA into Sunday’s start against the Tigers in Detroit.

P.J. Walters is likely to start Wednesday against the White Sox.

Walters was activated from the DL Saturday after missing two and a half months with shoulder issues. The Twins could use a seven-man rotation down the stretch, with Esmerling Vasquez also getting a shot. "This is the one opportunity where you could possibly go to a six-man or even seven-man [rotation] if you deemed it necessary," general manager Terry Ryan said. "We're bringing up two starting pitchers, Vasquez and Walters, and we're certainly interested in how they responded."

Twins activated RHP P.J. Walters from the 60-day disabled list.

Walters, out since June 14, was cleared to return after making six rehab appearances. He could be an option for the Twins' rotation, but is doubtful to hold any fantasy value.

P.J. Walters (shoulder) will resume his rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Rochester.

Walters has been shut down since experiencing a setback in early July. He's not eligible to return until mid-August and might not be ready by that time, anyway. It's no given that he'll rejoin the Twins' rotation when healthy.

P.J. Walters (shoulder) hopes to resume throwing from a mound next week.

Walters recently resumed playing catch after suffering a setback with his shoulder earlier this month. He won't be eligible to return until mid-August after recently being moved to the 60-day disabled list.

Twins transferred RHP P.J. Walters from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Walters won't be eligible to return until mid-August now. He hasn't appeared in a rehab game since July 6, when he suffered a setback with his shoulder.

P.J. Walters (shoulder) suffered a "minor setback" in a rehab start with Triple-A Rochester on Sunday and will require at least one more outing on the farm prior to activation.

Despite sporting a paper-thin rotation, the Twins haven't seemed particularly keen on rushing Walters back to the majors. Prior to Sunday, even, reports out of Minnesota speculated that the Twins wanted him to make at least one more start at Triple-A. In other words, as long as his setback wasn't severe, Walters' timetable remains the same. Expect to see him in the rotation later this month. Leave Walters and his ugly 5.40 ERA over seven starts on the waiver wire in AL-only leagues once he is activated.

P.J. Walters (shoulder) tossed five shutout innings Friday in his second rehab start with Triple-A Rochester.

Walters gave up five hits while striking out two and walking none. While he has an ugly 5.40 ERA in seven starts with the Twins this season, he figures to rejoin the team's starting rotation after the All-Star break.

P.J. Walters (shoulder) will make another rehab start for Triple-A Rochester on Friday.

Walters gave up three runs on five hits and two walks Sunday in his first rehab outing. If all goes well Sunday, he should rejoin the Twins' rotation after the All-Star break.

P.J. Walters (shoulder) threw a successful bullpen session on Tuesday afternoon.

If his next bullpener (on Thursday) goes well, Walters may be cleared to make a minor league rehab start Sunday at Triple-A Rochester. And he should be cleared to return to the Twins' rotation five days after that. The right-hander has posted an ugly 5.40 ERA in seven starts this season, but Minnesota doesn't have better options.
