After missing Tuesday's game with an injured wrist, Matt Tolbert returned on Wednesday to finish 0-for-1 in limited action.

Tolbert was called upon to pinch-run in the eighth inning, and then grounded out to the pitcher in the ninth with two outs and the bases juiced. Fortunately, the Twins prevailed, so he can claim to be part of the victory.

Matt Tolbert is out of Tuesday's lineup with an injury to his left wrist.

Tolbert tweaked his left wrist during a swing on Monday night and is being sent for X-rays. He can pinch-run and field, but can't swing the bat. Trevor Plouffe will make the start at second base Tuesday night and bat second against Justin Verlander and the Tigers.

The two-hit effort was Tolbert's third in four games, upping his average from .167 on June 1 to .215. He has also now picked up 50 percent of his eight RBI in the past two days. If you're desperate for middle infield help in your AL-only league, he could be worth monitoring.

Tolbert singled twice and blasted a solo shot off Brian Matusz in the third. Many assumed that Tolbert would make the Opening Day roster as a utility infielder because of his ability to play shortstop, but don't be surprised if prospect Luke Hughes ends up with the job.

At least he won't play much. Tolbert, a career .247/.307/.336 hitter in 357 major league at-bats, should fall in line behind Alexi Casilla on the infield depth chart while the Twins deal with yet another Nick Punto injury.

Tolbert has been out since early July with a finger injury. He's likely to return to the team in September.
