Reds recalled RHP Jordan Smith from Triple-A Louisville.

Reds optioned RHP Jordan Smith to Triple-A Louisville.

Jordan Smith moved to 5-1 for Single-A Sarasota by allowing one run over eight innings on Wednesday.

Smith has a 1.60 ERA and a 29/5 K/BB ratio in 36 1/3 innings. The 2006 sixth-round pick is a long shot to make it as a starting pitcher in the majors, but a switch to the pen could make his already strong fastball even better and increases his chances of receiving an opportunity.

Jordan Smith allowed two hits over seven scoreless innings in a win for low Single-A Dayton on Sunday.

Smith is a starter right now, but the 2006 fifth-round pick could eventually find a home in Cincinnati's bullpen. He's 6-6 with a 3.49 ERA, 82 H and 56/18 K/BB in 87 2/3 IP. His fastball is above average, so if he can come up with a strikeout breaking ball, he'd be someone to watch.
