Allen was only up for a couple days and didn't see any playing time. There's a good chance he'll clear waivers.

Reds purchased the contract of 1B Brandon Allen from Triple-A Louisville.

Allen is mostly a first baseman but has played some corner outfield, as well. He hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2012 and will likely just serve as a pinch-hitter until Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) comes off the disabled list Sunday.

Allen hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2012 and he turns 30 years old in February. The first baseman hit .273/.350/.478 with 16 home runs and 68 RBI in 124 games this summer for the Mets' Triple-A affiliate.

The 29-year-old struggled in Grapefruit League play, hitting just .107 (3-for-28) with a homer and six RBI. He's expected to begin the season as depth at Triple-A Las Vegas, but could see action with the Mets at some point during the season.

Mets re-signed 1B Brandon Allen to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Allen hasn't appeared in the majors since 2012, when he managed just two hits in 22 plate appearances between the Athletics and Rays. He spent the majority of the 2014 season with the Mets' Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas and that's likely where he'll open the 2015 campaign.

Brandon Allen is currently in a walking boot after injuring his right calf on Thursday.

Allen was forced to leave Thursday's game with the injury. There is still no updated timetable for his status, but his chances of making the team out of spring training have all but depleted.

Allen exited Thursday's Grapefruit League game with the ailment. It's not clear how long he'll be sidelined, but the injury should officially end his long shot chances at cracking the Mets' Opening Day roster.

Mets signed 1B Brandon Allen to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Allen spent 2013 with the Padres' Triple-A club in Tucson, finishing with an .825 OPS. He'll be competing for a bench role but will most likely open the 2014 season back in Triple-A in the Mets' system. In a handful of major league at-bats each season between 2009-12, he compiled a meager .665 OPS with a 35 percent strikeout rate.

Allen was released by the Rangers at the end of spring training. The 27-year-old owns a .203/.290/.375 batting line over 389 plate appearances in the majors and spent part of last season with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks of Japan's Central League. He'll function as organizational depth.

Allen was once a pretty highly thought of prospect, but he's batted just .203/.290/.375 to this point at the major league level and turned 27 last month. He shouldn't have trouble finding about minor league contract, though.

Allen batted just .171/.194/.200 in 36 plate appearances this past year for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks of Japan's Central League. He won't be in the running for an Opening Day roster spot with the Rangers.

The Rays have sold the rights of 1B/DH Brandon Allen to the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks of Japan's Central League.

This confirms a report by Mark Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Allen, now 26, has failed to break through at the major league level and was hitting just .262/.295/.451 with four homers, 15 RBI and a .745 OPS in 29 games with the Rays' Triple-A affiliate this year. He'll attempt to reestablish his value in Japan.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Rays have sold Brandon Allen's rights to a Japanese team.

It's not clear which team he'll be joining. Allen, a .203/.290/.375 hitter over 389 plate appearances in the majors, appeared in 10 games between the Rays and Athletics this season.
