Brandon Allen has been diagnosed with a calf injury.

Allen exited Thursday's Grapefruit League game with the ailment. It's not clear how long he'll be sidelined, but the injury should officially end his long shot chances at cracking the Mets' Opening Day roster.

Brandon Allen left Thursday's Grapefruit League game with an apparent injury.

Allen, a non-roster invitee, limped off the field after advancing to second base on a single. The Mets should pass along an update soon.

Mets signed 1B Brandon Allen to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Allen spent 2013 with the Padres' Triple-A club in Tucson, finishing with an .825 OPS. He'll be competing for a bench role but will most likely open the 2014 season back in Triple-A in the Mets' system. In a handful of major league at-bats each season between 2009-12, he compiled a meager .665 OPS with a 35 percent strikeout rate.

Padres signed 1B Brandon Allen to a minor league contract.

Allen was released by the Rangers at the end of spring training. The 27-year-old owns a .203/.290/.375 batting line over 389 plate appearances in the majors and spent part of last season with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks of Japan's Central League. He'll function as organizational depth.

Rangers released 1B Brandon Allen.

Allen was once a pretty highly thought of prospect, but he's batted just .203/.290/.375 to this point at the major league level and turned 27 last month. He shouldn't have trouble finding about minor league contract, though.

Rangers signed 1B Brandon Allen to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Allen batted just .171/.194/.200 in 36 plate appearances this past year for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks of Japan's Central League. He won't be in the running for an Opening Day roster spot with the Rangers.

The Rays have sold the rights of 1B/DH Brandon Allen to the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks of Japan's Central League.

This confirms a report by Mark Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Allen, now 26, has failed to break through at the major league level and was hitting just .262/.295/.451 with four homers, 15 RBI and a .745 OPS in 29 games with the Rays' Triple-A affiliate this year. He'll attempt to reestablish his value in Japan.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Rays have sold Brandon Allen's rights to a Japanese team.

It's not clear which team he'll be joining. Allen, a .203/.290/.375 hitter over 389 plate appearances in the majors, appeared in 10 games between the Rays and Athletics this season.

Rays sent 1B Brandon Allen outright to Triple-A Durham.

It's a little surprising that he cleared waivers, but not terribly so since he made it all the way to the Rays last time. Allen has missed the last month with a quad strain but is healthy now and will provide depth at Triple-A.

Rays activated 1B Brandon Allen from the 15-day disabled list; designated him for assignment.

This means Allen's tenure with the Rays will likely end after seven games and 13 at-bats. The 26-year-old was placed on the disabled list about a month ago with a quad strain and batted .255 (13-for-51) with two homers in 14 rehab games with High-A Charlotte. He was out of options, so he couldn't be sent to the minors. While Allen has yet to show that he can produce against major league pitching, he'll likely draw interest on waivers.

Brandon Allen (quad) is expected to continue his rehab assignment at least through the weekend.

He was eligible to come off the disabled list Friday, but isn't guaranteed a roster spot coming back from injury. Allen, of course, is out of options and would need to clear waivers in order to be sent to the minors.

Brandon Allen (quad) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment Thursday at Single-A.

Allen was placed on the 15-day disabled list last Thursday after suffering a right quad strain. The 26-year-old is on track to be activated when first eligible.

Rays placed OF/1B Brandon Allen on the 15-day disabled list with a right quad strain.

Allen has dealt with the issue for a couple weeks now and it tightened up on him while he was running to second base during Wednesday's game. The injury means that Brandon Guyer will stick around a little longer than originally expected.

Brandon Allen hit a walkoff two-run homer Thursday in the Rays' 4-3 victory over the Angels.

A pinch-hit blast, nonetheless. Allen hasn't seen a whole lot of playing time since being claimed off waivers from the A's on April 19, but that may change after Thursday's heroics. The 26-year-old first baseman has a .722 OPS on the year.
