Andrew Romine went 0-for-3 and committed an error Thursday in the loss to the Rangers.
He also had a mental error when he failed to cover second base on what should have been a forceout. It was a pretty dreadful day for a guy who is only in the lineup for his defense. He's hitless in six starts over the last 11 days, and he's down to .173 in 81 at-bats for the season. It should mean more Danny Worth at shortstop for the Tigers. May 22 - 4:55 PM

Date:

Andrew Romine went hitless again, going 0-for-3 in a losing effort against the Twins on Friday.

Another disappointing night at the dish brings his season slash to a disappointing .218/.317/.236. While the Tigers lack better options at the moment, one has to wonder how long they'll accept virtually no offensive production from the shortstop position.
May 9 - 10:49 PM

Andrew Romine went 3-for-5 with two runs scored in a win over the Royals on Sunday.

Romine, serving as the Tigers' de facto starting shortstop, collected three singles against starter Jason Vargas and the Royals bullpen. He'll continue to start the majority of the games at short and bat near the bottom of the Tigers' lineup for the foreseeable future, making him an AL-only option for the time being.
May 4 - 6:37 PM

Andrew Romine is in the Tigers' lineup for Monday night's game against the White Sox, playing shortstop for a fourth consecutive game.

Romine, a switch-hitter, will face a lefty starter in John Danks for the third game in a row. The Tigers are in desperate need of help at shortstop, as they have had a .538 OPS from the position on the season, the third-worst mark in the American League. Romine hasn't been much help, posting a .650 OPS in 25 plate appearances.
Apr 21 - 3:28 PM

Andrew Romine is starting at shortstop for the Tigers on Thursday afternoon against the Royals.

Alex Gonzalez will get a day off after starting the first two games of the season at short. The Tigers still don't have a good replacement for Jose Iglesias, who is out for the year with dual shin fractures.
Apr 3 - 9:40 AM

Tigers acquired INF Andrew Romine from the Angels in exchange for LHP Jose Alvarez.

Romine will give the Tigers another option at shortstop as they look to replace Jose Iglesias (shins). He's the favorite to see the lion's share of at-bats versus right-handers, with Hernan Perez or Danny Worth starting against lefties. The 28-year-old isn't much at the plate (he's hit .250/.303/.270 over 74 games in the majors), but he can run a bit. It's possible he'll wind up with some deep league value as a cheap speed option.
Mar 21 - 2:21 PM

Andrew Romine blasted his first homer of the spring season in Friday's Cactus League loss to the Rockies.

Getting the start at third base, the 28-year-old finished the day 2-for-3, with his solo blast coming courtesy of Christian Bergman in the seventh inning. With a strong showing this spring, he could crack the Angels Opening Day roster in a reserve role.
Mar 7 - 7:06 PM

Andrew Romine put on 17 pounds of muscle this offseason.

Romine, 28, batted .259/.308/.287 over 123 plate appearances with the Angels last season. He'll enter spring training out of options, so he'll have to be exposed to waivers if he doesn't make the Opening Day roster.
Feb 18 - 12:53 PM

Angels recalled INF Andrew Romine from Triple-A Salt Lake.

He'll take Nick Maronde's place on the active roster. Romine is starting at shortstop Wednesday and will provide some insurance while Erick Aybar deals with a calf injury.

Andrew Romine is in the Angels' clubhouse on Wednesday.

Erick Aybar left Tuesday's game with a calf injury, so Romine is presumably around for infield depth. The Angels have yet to announce an official roster move.
