Jarrett Hoffpauir - 3B - Blue Jays

Nationals signed INF Jarrett Hoffpauir to a minor league contract.

Hoffpauir, 28, batted .281/.356/.428 with five home runs and 34 RBI in 356 plate appearances this past season at Triple-A Tucson. He'll serve as depth for the Nats.

Jarrett Hoffpauir - 3B - Blue Jays

Padres activated INF Jarrett Hoffpauir from the 60-day disabled list, optioned him to Triple-A Tucson.

Hoffpauir has dealt with a quad injury since spring training but is finally over the ailment. He'll try to work his way back up to the major after getting in some games at Tucson first.

Padres transferred INF Jarrett Hoffpauir to the 60-day disabled list.

The Pads needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster to call up catcher Kyle Phillips. Hoffpauir is still battling a quad injury that's he's dealt with since spring training, and he'll be out until at least late May.

Padres placed INF Jarrett Hoffpauir on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22, with a strained right quadriceps.

Hoffpauir was limited to just eight Cactus League at-bats due to the injury. However, he was out of options, so this has at least delayed a tough decision for the Padres.

Hoffpauir, who was claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays during the offseason, has been limited to eight at-bats this spring due to a right quadriceps injury. The 27-year-old is an interesting conundrum since he's out of options, but he's unlikely to make the Opening Day roster.

Hoffpauir, a waiver claim from the Blue Jays. was trying to make the Padres as a utilityman. Instead, it looks like he could start the season on the disabled list.

Jarrett Hoffpauir (quad) returns to the Padres' lineup Thursday.

Hoffpauir was claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays in October. He has been out of the lineup since last Tuesday with a quad strain. The Padres have a number of different options for their infield, so he might have a tough time cracking the roster at this point.

Padres claimed 3B Jarrett Hoffpauir off waivers from the Blue Jays.

The 27-year-old Hoffpauir batted just .206/.250/.235 in 34 at-bats this season for the big-league Jays. He will try out for a backup infield job next spring in Padres camp but probably won't have much luck.

Hoffpauir has batted .214/.267/.250 in 28 at-bats with the Blue Jays this season. He's likely to get a few looks on the Toronto infield down the stretch but obviously won't be a factor in fantasy leagues.

Blue Jays optioned third baseman Jarrett Hoffpauir to Triple-A Las Vegas.

One never can tell exactly what kind of game the Jays are playing. Hoffpauir's audition as the Jays' starting third baseman last all of nine games. He went 2-for-4 and delivered a nice sac bunt today, but it wasn't enough to save him after a 4-for-24 start.

Jarrett Hoffpauir - 3B - Blue Jays

Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said that Jarrett Hoffpauir will be the team's everyday third baseman for now.

Hoffpauir was batting .328/.378/.532 with nine homers and 43 RBI with Triple-A Las Vegas this season while splitting time between second and third base. The 27-year-old is a .288/.366/.427 lifetime hitter in the minor leagues, but he's not considered to be an asset defensively. That matters not to fantasy owners, as he is worth a shot in AL-only formats for now. Keep in mind that his playing time could take a hit once Travis Snider returns from the disabled list, as Jose Bautista would likely move to the hot corner.

Hoffpauir was hitting a scorching .332/.383/.539 on the farm this year and batted .291/.357/.486 in 358 at-bats for Triple-A Memphis last season. The 26-year-old should continue to hit in the majors, but he's below average defensively and lacks the versatility to make it as a utilityman. He's worth a flyer in deep AL-only leagues, but that's about it, for now.

Under J.P. Ricciardi, the Blue Jays made a habit of putting in more offseason waiver claims than every other team in baseball and often waiving the players they picked up a short time later. We'll see if new GM Alex Anthopoulos likes the same method. Hoffpauir, an offensive-minded second baseman, batted .291/.357/.486 in 358 at-bats for Triple-A Memphis last season. The 26-year-old would hit in the majors, but he's below average defensively and he lacks the versatility to make it as a utilityman. He'd be nice to have stashed away in Triple-A in case Aaron Hill gets hurt, but he shouldn't be of much use otherwise.
