Corey Brown hit a pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning Saturday, giving the Nationals a come-from-behind 7-6 victory over the Marlins.

The Nats trailed 6-5 entering the bottom of the ninth and then had to deal with a rain delay that lasted nearly 2 1/2 hours. When play eventually resumed, Jayson Werth blasted a game-tying solo homer off Heath Bell to force extra innings. The Nats started the home half of the 10th with two singles and an intentional walk to load the bases with no outs. After Kurt Suzuki hit into a fielder's choice, Brown batted for Drew Storen and came through with the critical RBI knock. He's hitting .222 (4-for-18) with a homer and three RBI in limited action this season.

Nationals recalled OF Corey Brown from Triple-A Syracuse.

Brown has appeared in nine games with the Nats this year, but has spent the majority of the season at Triple-A, batting .285/.365/.523 with 25 home runs, 71 RBI, 18 stolen bases and an .888 OPS in 126 games. He's unlikely to get enough playing time to be fantasy relevant.

Nationals optioned OF Corey Brown to Triple-A Syracuse.

Brown, a supplemental first-round pick of the A's in 2007 who was later involved in a trade for Josh Willingham, was jettisoned to make roster room for Chad Tracy. The 26-year-old has raked at Triple-A this season and we expect him to continue to do so until Washington summons him later summer.

Nationals recalled OF Corey Brown from Triple-A Syracuse.

Brown, a supplemental first-round pick of the A's in 2007 who was later involved in a trade for Josh Willingham, has only seven plate appearances in his major league career thus far. The 26-year-old has raked at Triple-A this season, posting a .944 OPS and 21 homers in 94 games. He'll act as a reserve outfield for the Nationals.

Nationals purchased the contract of OF Corey Brown from Triple-A Syracuse.

Brown will function as depth for the Nationals' bench while Chad Tracy recovers from a groin injury. The 26-year-old was on a roll at the Triple-A level but seems doubtful to carry much in the way of fantasy value.

The Nationals have summoned OF Corey Brown to their taxi squad.

He'll be promoted on Monday if Chad Tracy (groin) is placed on the disabled list. Brown, 26, has 12 home runs and a .983 OPS at Triple-A Syracuse. He figures to get most of his at-bats against right-handed pitching.

Non-roster outfielder Corey Brown had two hits and two RBI for the Nationals on Monday.

Brown is 7-for-17 with a homer this spring. The Nationals aren't giving him time in center, so it doesn't look like he's a candidate to be in the mix with Rick Ankiel and Roger Bernadina there. And since Brown, like those two, is a left-handed hitter, there probably won't be room on the bench for him, either. He's likely going to end up back in Triple-A.

Nationals sent OF Corey Brown outright to Triple-A Syracuse.

Brown was acquired from the A's last winter in the Josh Willingham deal. The 25-year-old outfielder batted .235/.326/.402 with 14 homers, 39 RBI and a .727 OPS over 462 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. He appeared in three games with the Nationals as a September call-up before undergoing surgery to have a staph infection removed from his right knee. It's expected that he will be 100 percent by spring training.

Corey Brown underwent surgery Wednesday to have a staph infection removed from his right knee.

Brown won't return to action this season but should be back to 100 percent by the start of spring training next February. The 25-year-old outfielder slugged 14 homers in 462 plate appearances this year at Triple-A Syracuse.

Corey Brown (staph infection) is likely to be shut down for the rest of the season.

"The knee wasn't progressing like it should," Nationals manager Davey Johnson said. "The orthopedic surgeon said they were going to have to open [the knee up] a little bit to get the infection out. So he will not be joining us on this trip [to New York." Brown has been hitless in three at-bats for Washington since being promoted last week.

Nationals manager Davey Johnson hopes Corey Brown (staph infection in his knee) can return later this week.

Brown did not travel with the Nationals on Sunday under doctor's orders. "The doctors felt that rather than go on the road trip, maybe have him see a doctor," Johnson said. "Instead of getting better, it could get worse. I think there was a concern that it could turn into a staph infection. We just kept him in Washington to be on the safe side. Hopefully today or tomorrow, he could be all right and rejoin the club." Brown was promoted to the major leagues last week after batting .235/.326/.402 with 14 homers in 462 plate appearances for Triple-A Syracuse. He has only three at-bats so far for the Nats.
