The Blue Jays will designate right-hander Andrew Carpenter for assignment on Saturday.

He'll be cleared as the Jays make room for the new additions on their roster following Friday's trade with the Astros. Carpenter has been used sparingly since being called up from Triple-A Las Vegas earlier this month, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over two innings.

Carpenter made 12 appearances last season between the Phillies and Padres and holds an 8.51 ERA over 24 1/3 innings in the big leagues. The 27-year-old right-hander had a 3.38 ERA and 56/19 K/BB ratio over 74 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level this year. He should pitch the middle innings.

The righty was a second round selection of the Phillies back in the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft. He will return to camp as a non-roster player.
