Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Monday that Joe Thatcher (ankle) is "still a ways away."
The lefty had been hoping to be activated for the start of this weekend's big series against the A's, but Scioscia said "that may be a little too aggressive." Thatcher has yet to throw off a mound since landing on the DL and it's sounding like the Halos might hold him back until rosters expand. Aug 18 - 9:08 PM

Joe Thatcher (ankle) is expected to be sidelined 3-4 weeks.

An MRI confirmed that the left-hander has a ligament sprain in his left ankle. He'll probably be added when rosters expand in September.

Angels placed LHP Joe Thatcher on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left ankle.

Thatcher suffered the injury during Saturday's game. He seems likely to be ready to go when his 15 days are up or shortly after.

Angels skipper Mike Scioscia said reliever Joe Thatcher will hit the disabled list with an ankle sprain.

Thatcher left Saturday's game early after jamming the limb. The corresponding roster move won't be announced until tomorrow.

Joe Thatcher left Saturday's game against the Angels with an ankle sprain.

The Angels acquired Thatcher at the beginning of July in their efforts to rework their bullpen. He allowed two singles before exiting the game in the fourth. For now, consider him day-to-day, though there's speculation on Twitter that the injury might lead to a DL stint.
Aug 2 - 10:13 PM

Angels acquired LHP Joe Thatcher and OF Tony Campana from the Diamondbacks for OF Zach Borenstein and RHP Joey Krehbiel.

The veteran southpaw makes for a nice addition to the Angels bullpen which was lacking in quality left-handed arms. He has done a nice job for the D’Backs this season, posting a 2.63 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 25/3 K/BB ratio over his 24 innings of work. Despite adding Thatcher and Jason Grilli this week, the Angels are rumored to still be in the market for further bullpen upgrades.
Jul 5 - 12:15 PM

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Angels have agreed to a deal to acquire Joe Thatcher and Tony Campana from the Diamondbacks.

No word yet on the potential return package that the Diamondbacks would be receiving in the trade. There were rumblings late Friday that the Angels were interested in the veteran southpaw, and it appears as though they worked things out quickly. He'll add a much-needed left-handed weapon to manager Mike Scioscia's bullpen.
Jul 5 - 9:58 AM

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Angels are interested in acquiring a left-handed reliever and are believed to be interested in Diamondbacks southpaw Joe Thatcher.

The 32-year-old is enjoying a fine season in the desert, posting a 2.63 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 25/3 K/BB ratio over his 24 frames. He remains one of the top left-handed relievers expected to be available via trade.

Diamondbacks avoided arbitration with LHP Joe Thatcher by agreeing to a one-year, $2.375 million contract.

Thatcher was arbitration-eligible for the final time this winter. The left specialist posted a 3.20 ERA over 72 appearances for the Padres and D'Backs last season.
Jan 17 - 1:35 PM

Ben Nicholson-Smith of believes it's unlikely that Joe Thatcher will be non-tendered by the Diamondbacks.

Thatcher struggled mightily during his time with the Diamondbacks after a mid-season trade, posting a 6.75 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 7/6 K/BB ratio over 9 1/3 innings. He remains a reliable and effective option out of the bullpen however, and still just 32-years-old, should have plenty of good innings left in him.

Diamondbacks acquired LHP Joe Thatcher, RHP Matt Stites and a compensation B draft pick from the Padres for RHP Ian Kennedy.

It's a shockingly low price for someone who looked like a rotation staple in Arizona not too long ago. However, Kennedy has struggled this season and the Diamondbacks might not have been too hot on giving him a raise in arbitration. As a result, they used him to acquire some relief help. Thatcher has bounced back from shoulder problems to post a solid 2.10 ERA and 20/4 K/BB ratio over 30 innings this season. He should be a solid addition to the D-Backs' bullpen. The compensatory draft pick will fall between the second and third rounds next year.

ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that the Padres are more likely to deal Joe Thatcher than Luke Gregerson.

Furthermore, Stark hears that the Padres are declining any offers for their outfielders. Finally back to form following shoulder issues, Thatcher has a 2.10 ERA and 29/4 K/BB ratio over 30 innings this season. Left-handed relievers have a lot of value in this market, so the Padres could fetch a nice prospect in return.

FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Braves are interest in Joe Thatcher.

The Braves are sure to add a left-handed reliever at the deadline, and it's no surprise Thatcher is on their watch list. The southpaw holds a 2.25 ERA this season and has left left-handed batters to a .206/.266/.315 batting line during his career. He's making $1.35 million in 2013 and will be arbitration-eligible for a final time over the winter.

Joe Thatcher earned his fifth hold by tossing two-thirds of a scoreless inning against the Cardinals on Monday night.

When healthy, the southpaw has been terrific for the Padres. Between 2009-2011, he posted a 2.66 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 10.9 K/9 rate. This year he is 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 10/1 K/BB rate over 21 appearances. As an effective LOOGY who calls PETCO home, Thatcher is a solid middle reliever in deeper NL-only formats.

Padres avoided arbitration with LHP Joe Thatcher by agreeing to a one-year, $1.35 million contract.

It was Thatcher's second year of arbitration eligibility. When healthy, the southpaw has been terrific for the Padres since 2009, posting a 2.66 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 10.9 K/9 rate. He's coming off of arthroscopic surgery on his right knee but is expected to be fine for spring training.
