Drew Butera went 1-for-4 with two walks and hit what proved to be the game-deciding home run in Thursday's 12-inning victory over the Twins.
Butera laced a solo home run to left field off of Brian Duensing, padding the Dodgers' lead to 4-2 in the 12th inning. It ended up being very valuable, as closer Kenley Jansen loaded the bases with no outs and allowed one run before slamming the door on the one-run victory in the bottom-half of the 12th. The homer was Butera's first in the Majors since he hit one on July 1, 2012 off of Royals pitcher Aaron Crow. May 2 - 12:26 AM

Date:

Dodgers agreed to terms with catcher Drew Butera on a one-year, $700,000 contract.

That MLB teams are absolutely petrified of being caught short in the catching department will keep Butera on a 40-man roster for another winter. It'd be an upset if he beats out Tim Federowicz for a job backing up A.J. Ellis next spring, but he does provide insurance.

Dodgers recalled C Drew Butera from Triple-A Albuquerque.

He'll serve as the club's third catcher over the final month. Butera is a career .230/.263/.494 hitter in 534 major league plate appearances.

Dodgers acquired C Drew Butera from the Twins for a player to be named later.

It was the final deal of the 2013 non-waiver trade deadline. Butera, 29, is a .230/.263/.494 career hitter in 534 major league plate appearances. He is doubtful to make any sort of major impact for the Dodgers.

Twins optioned C Drew Butera to Triple-A Rochester.

Butera appeared in two games with the Twins while Joe Mauer was on paternity leave. He returns to a .215/.247/.316 batting line at the Triple-A level.

Twins recalled C Drew Butera from Triple-A Rochester.

Butera will provide some catching depth while Joe Mauer is away on paternity leave. The .183 career hitter is not fantasy relevant.

Drew Butera suffered a broken pinkie in his first Triple-A at-bat on Friday and is expected to miss at least four weeks.

Butera, 29, failed to make the Twins Opening Day roster and has a .183 lifetime average in the majors. When he returns, he'll be nothing more than organizational depth.

Drew Butera has been placed on the 7-day minor league disabled list with a broken left hand.

Butera failed to make the Twins' Opening Day roster, but is still valuable insurance at the Triple-A level. He should return as organizational depth when healthy.

Twins optioned C Drew Butera to Triple-A Rochester.

Butera will probably be brought up and sent back down several times this season. The 29-year-old catcher hit .198/.270/.279 in 122 plate appearances last summer.

Twins avoided arbitration with C Drew Butera by agreeing to a one-year, $700,000 contract.

Butera appeared in 42 games for the Twins this past season, and was arbitration-eligible as a Super Two qualifier. He's slated to begin 2013 as Joe Mauer's backup.

Twins recalled C Drew Butera from Triple-A Rochester.

His recall was expected, but most figured it would be to replace Justin Morneau (wrist). Instead Sean Burroughs has been designated for assignment. Butera's presence will allow manager Ron Gardenhire to use Joe Mauer and Ryan Doumit at other positions more freely.

Updating a previous item, the Twins plan to recall catcher Drew Butera from Triple-A Rochester for Tuesday's game.

The Twins have yet to announce a corresponding roster move, but this would seem to indicate that Justin Morneau (wrist) is likely headed for the disabled list. While Butera can be ignored in fantasy leagues, his presence will allow Twins' manager Ron Gardenhire to have both Joe Mauer and Ryan Doumit in the lineup at the same time.

Drew Butera has been summoned from Triple-A Rochester to join the Twins in Los Angeles.

Butera hasn't been added to the roster, but the Twins could make a move depending upon the status of Justin Morneau's left wrist. The 28-year-old backstop is hitting .279/.319/.429 in 48 plate appearances for Rochester this season, but he owns a miserable .178/.220/.261 batting line over 409 plate appearances in the majors.

The Twins are considering calling up Drew Butera to serve as the team's third catcher.

Manager Ron Gardenhire admitted that it's "not a perfect scenario" having both catchers on the roster in the lineup at the same time in Joe Mauer and Ryan Doumit. They're currently carrying 13 pitchers, and when they eventually go back to 12, Butera could be promoted.

Twins optioned C Drew Butera to Triple-A Rochester.

The epitome of a glove-first catcher, Butera was one of the worst hitters in baseball that earned over 250 plate appearances in 2011. Minnesota will likely go with Ryan Doumit as their part-time first baseman and backup to Joe Mauer. The Twins also reassigned infielder Mike Hollimon to minor league camp.
