Butera took Anthony Bass deep for his second home run of the spring in the fifth inning. With Salvador Perez locked in as the Royals' regular starter behind the plate, the 33-year-old Butera will be working in a backup capacity during the coming season unless injury strikes. Apr 1 - 4:47 PM

Drew Butera clubbed a solo home run as Italy fell to Puerto Rico in World Baseball Classic action on Sunday.

Team Italy continued to produce offensively, but simply didn't have enough pitching to compete in the tournament. Butera is expected to serve as the Royals' primary backup behind the plate this year.

Drew Butera was scratched from Sunday's lineup due to left oblique tightness.

It's unclear how severe the strain is at this point, but the Royals will surely hold Butera back for a little while. He's slated to be their backup catcher this season.

Royals re-signed C Drew Butera to a two-year, $3.8 million contract.

Butera is arguably the worst hitter in baseball, but the Royals love his defense and want to keep him around as Salvador Perez's backup. Butera is a career .198/.253/.295 hitter.

Drew Butera finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored Thursday against the Twins.

Butera had four hits, including a homer, in five career at-bats against Twins starter Kyle Gibson heading into Thursday's game, and he added to that strange dominance with his second three-hit game of the 2016 season. Backing up Salvador Perez this season, the 33-year-old is batting .281/.322/.474 in 114 at-bats.

Drew Butera went 2-for-3 and hit his career-high fourth homer Wednesday against the Twins.

Butera having an .824 OPS after five months might be the most surprising statistic of the year and most alarming if you're one of those signs-of-the-apocalypse kind of people. In six previous big-league seasons, Butera posted OPSs of .533, .449, .550, .200 (in 10 AB), .555 and .505.

Drew Butera clubbed a solo home run as the Royals fell to the Indians on Friday night in Cleveland.

Butera, who has seen increased action of late with the injury to Salvador Perez, accounted for all of his club's scoring in this one. His third inning blast came off of Indians starter Danny Salazar, and was the Royals' lone extra-base hit in the contest. The veteran backstop has done a nice job in his limited at-bats, slashing .308/.372/.590 with two home runs and eight RBI.

Drew Butera hit a two-run inside-the-park homer as the Royals beat the split-squad White Sox 9-2 on Thursday.

It was part of a seven-run seventh inning for the defending World Series champions. This game also featured a triple play turned by the White Sox, so it was a fun one. Butera has technically now homered in back-to-back games, which is something we didn't think we would ever have to write.

Drew Butera went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners.

Butera's homer was a rare affair. He has just nine regular season dingers in 774 career at-bats. The 32-year-old backstop hit a mere .196/.252/.252 with a homer and five RBI over 107 at-bats between the Angels and Royals last season. Needless to say, there's no fantasy upside here.

Royals and C Drew Butera avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.1625 million contract.

He can earn $12,500 more if he plays in 25 games. The defensive-minded Butera is a career .185/.241/.266 hitter.

Drew Butera went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday afternoon's loss to the Tigers.

The light-hitting Butera smacked his first home run of the season when he took Anibal Sanchez deep to lead off the seventh inning. It was just the ninth homer of his career. With a mere 49 at-bats this season and a .186/.197/.243 triple-slash line, we can safely say that the catcher should not be considered for fantasy purposes.

Royals recalled C Drew Butera from Triple-A Omaha.

He's replacing Francisco Pena as Salvador Perez's backup while Erik Kratz (foot) is out. Butera won't play much.

Royals acquired C Drew Butera from the Angels for INF Ryan Jackson.

Butera was designated for assignment by the Angels on May 4. He will give the Royals some needed depth at catcher with Erik Kratz suffering from a foot injury. Butera, 31, is a dreadful .183/.238/.266 career hitter.
Thu, May 7, 2015 12:37:00 PM

Angels designated C Drew Butera for assignment.

Butera batted just .190/.190/.190 over 10 games. The Halos have decided to carry Carlos Perez as Chris Iannetta's backup instead.

Angels and C Drew Butera avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $987,500 contract.

Butera was in his second year of arbitration eligibility. He'll serve as Chris Iannetta's backup after being acquired from the Dodgers via trade last month.
