Matt Joyce was hitless in four at-bats with a strikeout in Tuesday's road loss against the Angels.
Joyce's average slipped to .157 after taking the collar, and he is just 5-for-38 (.131) over the past 13 outings. The veteran left-handed hitter is getting plenty of chance to iron out his issues at the plate but he doesn't warrant much in the way of fantasy consideration until he starts to show some signs of life. Matt Joyce went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in Friday’s loss to the Rangers.

His third-inning blast off A.J. Griffin was his first of the season. After putting up 13 homers with an .866 OPS in part-time duty with the Pirates in 2016, Joyce should see regular at-bats against right-handers in right field with Oakland this year. He has batted either first or second in each of his first four games, so there’s some appeal here in deeper fantasy formats.

Matt Joyce is starting in right field and batting second for the Athletics in Monday's opener versus the Angels.

Joyce is expected to be benched in favor of Mark Canha against left-handers, but versus righties he'll have a prime spot in the lineup. The A's full lineup looks like this: Rajai Davis CF, Joyce RF, Ryon Healy DH, Khris Davis LF, Stephen Vogt C, Jed Lowrie 2B, Trevor Plouffe 3B, Yonder Alonso 1B, Marcus Semien SS. Daily Slant: An unlikely Opening Day match-up between Ricky Nolasco and Kendall Graveman makes the LAA/OAK game the best target for offense among the late games. Joyce himself finished 2016 with very respectable marks against RHP (.381 wOBA, .234 ISO), making him a worthwhile upside target in any format. Nolasco owned a 5.04 xFIP vs. LH bats last season, so Stephen Vogt and Jed Lowrie also make sense in this spot.

Matt Joyce went 1-for-3 with a two-run double in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Giants.

Joyce notched a two-run double off Tyler Beede in the third inning. That hit likely felt like a relief for the veteran outfielder, as Joyce has struggled mightily during spring play. Saturday's double was just his ninth hit in 46 at-bats. He will be acting as the A's starting right fielder to open the season.
Apr 1 - 6:06 PM

Matt Joyce is hitting out of the leadoff spot for Saturday's exhibition against the Giants.

It's unclear if this is an alignment that Bob Melvin will employ during the regular season, but it's certainly interesting for Joyce's potential fantasy value. Rajai Davis, who has been expected to bat leadoff, is hitting ninth on Saturday.
Apr 1 - 12:13 PM

Matt Joyce went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a 5-4 win over the Giants on Monday.

He took Jeff Samardzija deep in the first inning. Joyce is pegged as the starting right fielder in Oakland this year. He had a .242 batting average and a fantastic .403 on-base percentage in 140 games with the Pirates last year. He added 13 home runs and 42 RBI -- his lowest figures in those categories since 2010.
Feb 27 - 10:51 PM

Matt Joyce smacked a solo home run in Saturday's Cactus League loss to the Cubs.

The dinger was Joyce's first of the spring. The A's signed him near the end of November. Playing with the Pirates in 2016, he posted a .242/.403/.463 triple-slash to pair with 13 home runs across 140 games played. Those in deep AL-only leagues might consider Joyce as a late draft option. He holds a career .803 OPS vs. right-handers.

Athletics signed OF Matt Joyce to a two-year, $11 million contract.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported the terms involved. Joyce, 32, batted .242/.403/.463 with 13 homers over 140 games with the Pirates this past season and owns an .803 OPS against right-handers in his career. The playing time figures to be there with Oakland, so he could make for a sneaky player in deeper fantasy leagues.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Athletics have signed Matt Joyce to a two-year, $11 million contract, pending a physical.

Joyce had to settle for a minor league deal last winter, but he bounced back with the Pirates in 2016 by slugging 13 homers and an .866 OPS (131 OPS+) over 293 plate appearances in a part-time role. He figures to see regular at-bats against right-handed pitching with Oakland, likely in right field.

Matt Joyce went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Sunday's loss to the Reds.

Joyce connected for a solo home run off Reds starter Dan Straily in the fifth inning. The dinger was his 12th of the season. In addition, the veteran outfielder has driven in 38 runs while hitting to a .273/.403/.552 triple-slash across 165 at-bats. Given that he doesn't even start on an everyday basis, these are phenomenal part-time numbers.

Matt Joyce hit a three-run homer and walked Wednesday to raise his OPS to .983.

It's hard to fathom, but the Pirates would probably be a couple of games better off in the standings right now had Andrew McCutchen simply sat out the season. Joyce has been phenomenal as the Pirates' fourth outfielder and likely would be doing just fine had he been starting regularly against righties.

Matt Joyce homered and had four RBI in Thursday's win over the Brewers.

Joyce hit a three-run home run off Brewers starter Matt Garza in the first inning, his only hit in three at-bats. The homer was the ninth of the year for Joyce but his first since June 24. The 31-year-old part-time player is batting a strong .277/.404/.539 overall.

Matt Joyce (quad) returned to the Pirates starting lineup on Friday, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout in a loss to the Nationals.

To be fair, most of the Pirates hitters had a tough time getting anything going against Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg. Joyce missed the final game before the break due to tightness in his quad. He's having a nice season at the dish, slashing .286/.410/.541 with eight homers and 27 RBI in 161 plate appearances.

Matt Joyce (quad) flied out as a pinch-hitter on Sunday afternoon against the Cubs.

Joyce left Saturday's game after experiencing tightness in his left quad. That minor injury should be fully healed by the conclusion of the All-Star break. Joyce, 31, has an impressive .979 OPS in 129 at-bats this season.

Matt Joyce left Saturday's game against the Cubs with left quad tightness.

Joyce wasn't in the starting lineup but he pinch-hit for Josh Harrison in the third inning and stayed in the game to play right field. Adam Frazier replaced Joyce in right at the start of the sixth inning. Joyce grounded out and drew an intentional walk in his two plate appearances. He's day-to-day.
