Matt Joyce went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBI in Monday's victory over the Braves.
Joyce just keeps producing when given an opportunity. He plated a run with an RBI single in the first, had an infield single and scored in the fifth and then took Alexi Ogando deep with a two-run homer in the seventh. After batting just .174/.272/.291 for the Angels last season, Joyce is hitting .372/.500/.767 with five longballs in his first 43 at-bats for Pittsburgh. May 16 - 10:53 PM

Matt Joyce singled and slugged a three-run homer in Monday's win over the Rockies.

Joyce was making a rare start with Andrew McCutchen getting a night off and he sure made it count. The veteran outfielder has been a quality man off the bench for the Pirates so far, batting .320/.485/.600.
Apr 26 - 12:18 AM

Matt Joyce clubbed a pinch-hit, three-run homer in a losing effort against the Brewers on Friday.

Joyce certainly made the most of his lone at-bat on Friday, taking Jimmy Nelson deep in the seventh inning to account for the bulk of the Bucs offense in defeat. He's off to a nice start to the season, slashing .273/.500/.636 with four RBI, though his fantasy value remains limited due to inconsistent at-bats.
Apr 15 - 10:45 PM

Matt Joyce is serving as the Pirates' designated hitter on Monday in Detroit.

Joyce is a .350 career hitter (with two home runs) against Tigers starter Justin Verlander, if you're into that sort of thing. He will bat third for the Bucs in Monday's early-afternoon series opener.
Apr 11 - 10:06 AM

Pirates purchased the contract of OF Matt Joyce from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Joyce batted just .174/.272/.291 in 93 games last season, but he's a better hitter than that, particularly against righties. He could be a nice bench option for the Pirates.
Apr 3 - 9:51 AM

Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said Tuesday morning that Matt Joyce will be on the Opening Day roster.

Joyce, a non-roster invitee, is batting .243/.391/.541 over 17 games this spring. The Orioles reportedly had interest in the 31-year-old, but he has won a spot on Pittsburgh's bench.
Mar 29 - 9:29 AM

Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that the Orioles are interested in Matt Joyce.

Joyce is a non-roster invitee this spring and the Pirates have until Tuesday to decide whether to add him to the active roster. If he isn't, Baltimore could be a good fit, as they are on the lookout for a left-handed hitting outfielder. The club signed Hyun-Soo Kim to a two-year, $7 million deal over the winter, but things haven't worked out as hoped this spring.
Mar 28 - 4:31 PM

Matt Joyce went 2-for-4 with a homer, a walk and a steal Thursday against the Orioles.

Joyce is 2-for-10 stealing bases the last two regular seasons combined, but he's 2-for-2 this spring. He also has two homers and eight walks to go along with his .241 average in 29 at-bats. There's a good chance he'll have a spot on the Pirates bench.
Mar 24 - 5:18 PM

Matt Joyce homered, doubled and knocked in two runs against the Phillies on Friday.

The Pirates signed Joyce as a backup outfielder and pinch-hitter, but it'll be interesting to see how he handles getting as few at-bats as he figures to receive. After all, Starling Marte, Andrew McCutchen and Gregory Polanco will rarely sit when healthy.
Mar 18 - 4:52 PM

Pirates signed OF Matt Joyce to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Joyce used to a hot commodity, and the 31-year-old outfielder even carried some fantasy value for a stretch with the Angels in 2015, but here he is accepting a non-guaranteed minor league deal. Pittsburgh doesn't have a great bench, so he might have a small shot at an Opening Day roster spot. But it's doubtful he becomes worthy of waiver wire attention again. Joyce batted just .174/.272/.291 in 93 games last season.
Feb 18 - 9:56 AM

Angels activated OF Matt Joyce from the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Joyce has been symptom-free for a while, but the Halos held off until roster expansion to activate him. It's doubtful he'll have much of a role this month.

Matt Joyce (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday.

The Angels have a full outfield and may not have room for Joyce until rosters expand in September. The maximum rehab length for a position player is 20 days so the Angels may be able to make it work. The Angels could also transfer C.J. Wilson to the 60-day disabled list if they need to clear a spot for Joyce on the 40-man roster.

Matt Joyce (concussion) has been held back from baseball activities due to back pain.

Joyce no longer has concussion symptoms but has been slowed a bit by the back issues, although he did do some running on Saturday. It's entirely possible that the Angels are slow-playing his return, as they don't really have a spot for him on the roster.
Sun, Aug 9, 2015 10:51:00 AM

Matt Joyce (concussion) went through a workout on Monday.

Although he's been symptom-free for a few days, this is the first on-field workout Joyce has gone through since he went on the 7-day concussion disabled list. He should be ready to be activated soon, but the Angels might designate him for assignment.
Mon, Aug 3, 2015 08:01:00 PM

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Saturday that Matt Joyce (concussion) has been symptom-free for a couple days.

Joyce should be ready to return soon, but with the addition of David Murphy, Shane Victorino and David DeJesus, there's really no longer a role for him. He's a candidate to be designated for assignment. Joyce is batting just .178/.274/.298 on the season.
