Matt Joyce is out of the Athletics' starting lineup Tuesday due to a minor back injury.

A's manager Bob Melvin said he's hopeful it's just a day-to-day thing. Chad Pinder is starting in right field and batting second Tuesday night against the Astros.
Jun 20 - 7:42 PM

Matt Joyce went 3-for-3 with a solo home run and a pair of walks in Saturday's win over the Yankees.

He reached base in all five of his trips to the plate. He went deep off starter Masahiro Tanaka leading off the bottom of the first inning. The hot game gives a nice boost to what has been a disappointing season for the platoon outfielder. He is batting .224/.329/.404 with eight homers and 28 RBI in 216 plate appearances.
Jun 17 - 8:06 PM

Matt Joyce (chin) went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored Thursday night against the Yankees.

Joyce did not start the game, but he pinch-hit for Adam Rosales in the bottom of the seventh and took over in right field in the top of the eighth. He drove in a run with a groundout to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth and struck out before Khris Davis' walkoff two-run single in the bottom of the 10th. The veteran outfielder was removed from Wednesday's series finale against the Marlins after suffering a laceration under his chin. It required three stitches, but Joyce is good to go moving forward.
Jun 16 - 6:09 AM

Matt Joyce's laceration under his chin suffered in Wednesday's game against the Marlins required three stitches.

"I'm ready to play tomorrow if they ask," said a game Joyce. He suffered the chin laceration after colliding with Yonder Alonso while trying to bring in a high pop-up in the second inning of Wednesday's game. It sounds like this injury will not keep him out for long barring concussion symptoms.
Jun 14 - 4:26 PM

Matt Joyce left Wednesday's game against the Marlins with a laceration under his chin.

Joyce crashed into teammate Yonder Alonso on a high pop-up in the bottom of the second inning and he was replaced by Rajai Davis in the third. It doesn't sound like something that will keep Joyce out for long, unless of course he begins showing concussion-like symptoms.
Jun 14 - 1:58 PM

Matt Joyce (quad) remains out of the Athletics' starting lineup on Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

Joyce is day-to-day with a minor left quad strain, though he probably wasn't going to start anyway versus Toronto lefty Francisco Liriano. Chad Pinder will get the nod in right field and bat second for the A's.
Jun 7 - 1:24 PM

Matt Joyce has been diagnosed with a minor left quad strain.

He is out of the A's starting lineup Tuesday night against the Blue Jays and the veteran outfielder will also probably miss Wednesday's game. Joyce has batted just .194 in 183 plate appearances this season for Oakland, though he does have seven home runs and 25 RBI.
Jun 6 - 7:37 PM

Matt Joyce cracked a grand slam in the ninth inning of Sunday's loss to the Nationals.

The Nationals looked to be cruising to an easy victory after scoring five runs in the top of the ninth for an 11-4 lead, but the A's tried their darnedest to come back in the bottom of the frame. After they had plated two runs, Joyce whacked a grand slam off Shawn Kelley to draw the team to within 11-10. They were not, however, able to come up with one more run to send the contest to extras. Joyce has hit seven home runs and driven in 25 over the course of 154 at-bats this season. He is hitting a mere .195 in that space.
Jun 4 - 7:30 PM

Matt Joyce ended up 1-for-2 with a two-run home run off of Washington's Stephen Strasburg in Friday's loss.

Joyce has toiled at or below the Mendoza mark all season, and even with his homer he still sits at just .192 overall on the season. He was a serviceable fantasy option in Pittsburgh last season, but he hasn't done much of note in his first campaign in Oakland.
Jun 3 - 3:39 AM

Matt Joyce went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's loss to the Rangers.

Joyce blasted a two-run shot to center off A.J. Griffin in the fifth inning. It was his fourth homer of the season and second in the last three games. Even with the recent power uptick, the veteran outfielder is hitting a mere .210/.280/.381 over the course of 105 at-bats.
May 14 - 6:15 PM

Matt Joyce slugged a solo homer in Friday’s loss to the Rangers.

It was his third homer of the season and his first since April 26. The 32-year-old was quietly very good with the Pirates last year and looked like a value pick in deeper fantasy leagues after signing with the Athletics over the winter, but he’s batting just .188/.266/.344 through 30 games.
May 12 - 11:51 PM

Matt Joyce reached four times in six plate appearances as the A's leadoff hitter Thursday against the Twins.

Joyce is batting .197/.280/.333 with seven runs scored and 10 RBI in 24 games to date and he's a liability in the outfield, so he's looking like another bad signing for Oakland at the moment. Still, he was good today, and he's certainly a better option in the leadoff spot against righties than Rajai Davis.
May 4 - 5:24 PM

Matt Joyce was hitless in four at-bats with a strikeout in Tuesday's road loss against the Angels.

Joyce's average slipped to .157 after taking the collar, and he is just 5-for-38 (.131) over the past 13 outings. The veteran left-handed hitter is getting plenty of chance to iron out his issues at the plate but he doesn't warrant much in the way of fantasy consideration until he starts to show some signs of life.
Apr 26 - 2:33 AM

Matt Joyce went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in Friday’s loss to the Rangers.

His third-inning blast off A.J. Griffin was his first of the season. After putting up 13 homers with an .866 OPS in part-time duty with the Pirates in 2016, Joyce should see regular at-bats against right-handers in right field with Oakland this year. He has batted either first or second in each of his first four games, so there’s some appeal here in deeper fantasy formats.
