Matt Joyce belted his second home run of the season, helping to power the Rays to a 2-1 victory over the Reds on Friday.

Joyce, hitting in the third slot in Joe Maddon’s lineup, launched a Johnny Cueto offering over the wall in right to increase the Rays advantage to 2-0 in the third inning. He finished the evening 2-for-3 and is now slashing a scorching .423/.529/.731 with two homers and seven RBI on the young season.

Matt Joyce smacked a two-run homer in the Rays' win over the Rangers on Saturday in Tampa Bay.

The Rays were down 4-1 when Joyce hit his two-run shot in the bottom of the fourth inning. He added a single in the bottom of the seventh and is now 7-for-13 (.538) through five games played on the young season.
Apr 5 - 10:43 PM

Matt Joyce batted leadoff and went 2-for-5 with two runs scored in Wednesday's game.

Rays manager Joe Maddon is nothing if not unpredictable, so it remains to be seen whether Joyce in the leadoff spot is something we could see during the regular season or if it was just a spring experiment. Either way, Joyce made the most of it, bunting for a single and scoring on a sacrifice fly in the first inning before knocking a more traditional single and scoring on a base hit in the fifth. The left-handed hitter is likely to be the Rays' primary designated hitter this season.
Mar 26 - 10:25 PM

Matt Joyce went 2-for-4 and hit a three-run homer off Felix Doubront in the Rays' 9-2 drubbing of the Red Sox on Sunday.

Joyce wouldn't have been starting against the lefty in a regular-season game, but it didn't stop him from having the nice game today. The homer was his second in 40 at-bats this spring.
Mar 23 - 5:48 PM

Matt Joyce (neck) returned to the Rays lineup on Sunday.

He missed three games with a stiff neck. The 29-year-old is hitting .222/.263/.361 with a homer and four RBI in 36 Grapefruit League at-bats. He slashed .235/.328/.419 with 18 homers, 61 runs scored and seven steals over 413 at-bats in 2013 despite dropping off in the second half.
Mar 23 - 9:03 AM

Matt Joyce (neck) could return to the Rays lineup on Saturday.

He's been sidelined since Wednesday due to stiffness in his neck, but said Saturday that he's feeling much improved. The 29-year-old is hitting .222/.263/.361 with a homer and four RBI in 36 Grapefruit League at-bats.
Mar 22 - 8:57 AM

Matt Joyce (neck) is hoping to return on Friday.

Joyce was pulled from Wednesday's Grapefruit League game after experiencing stiffness in his neck and acknowledged to reporters on Thursday that he still feels sore. He should be fine by the start of the regular season.
Mar 20 - 2:14 PM

Matt Joyce left Wednesday's game with a stiff neck.

It was a precautionary move. Joe Maddon slid the versatile Logan Forsythe to left field to replace Joyce. The outfielder is considered day-to-day.
Mar 19 - 1:54 PM

According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, Matt Joyce remains the most likely candidate to serve as the Rays primary designated hitter in 2014.

The 29-year-old outfielder faded in the second half of the 2013 season, but still slashed .235/.328/.419 with 18 homers, 61 runs scored and seven steals in 413 at-bats. As long as he continues to see regular duty against right-handed pitching, he's a nice reserve outfielder option in deep mixed leagues for his sneaky combination of power and speed.
Feb 14 - 11:34 PM

Matt Joyce has gained almost 20 pounds this offseason in hopes he'll have more power and will stay stronger throughout the season.

"I think that in itself is going to help," Joyce told the Tampa Bay Times. "Everything looked great last year, but I felt a little weaker." Joyce started last season strong, hitting 14 home runs through June 15, but went on to hit just four over a dismal second half. He'll likely serve as the Rays' everyday DH next season.
Jan 18 - 11:39 PM

Rays avoided arbitration with OF Matt Joyce by agreeing to a one-year, $3.7 million contract.

Joyce was eligible for arbitration for the second time this offseason. He's coming off a disappointing year where he batted just .235/.328/.419 for the Rays. Joyce is slated to be the club's primary DH in 2014.
Jan 17 - 11:20 AM

Matt Joyce is serving as the Rays' DH for Monday evening's ALDS Game 3 against the Red Sox.

It'll be the first start of this best-of-five series for Joyce, who will try to help the Rays rebound from an 0-2 deficit. The full lineup for Tampa Bay: David DeJesus LF, Ben Zobrist 2B, Evan Longoria 3B, Wil Myers RF, James Loney 1B, Desmond Jennings CF, Matt Joyce DH, Yunel Escobar SS, Jose Molina C. Alex Cobb is on the bump versus Boston. Delmon Young is on the bench.

Matt Joyce went 2-for-5 and scored the winning run in the Rays' 5-4 win over the Mariners on Wednesday.

Joyce scored two of the Rays' five runs on the night, including the game-winner on Jason Bourgeois' single in the bottom of the ninth inning. Earlier in the inning Joyce drove in the game-tying run following a Ben Zobrist triple. It's been a mixed bag for Joyce this year, as he's hitting .247/.336/.428 with 14 home runs and seven stolen bases as a nearly everyday player.

Matt Joyce finished 3-for-3 with two walks, a double, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's loss to the Diamondbacks.

Sporadic playing time robs Joyce of some fantasy potential, but he doesn't deserve more at-bats against left-handers, against whom Joyce has hit .170 with no walks this season. Joyce is batting .246/.337/.433 with 14 homers.
