Matt Joyce went 0-for-3 in Tuesday's 10-inning loss to the Padres.

Joyce, despite getting almost all of his playing time this season against right-handed pitching, has struggled through the first two months. Tuesday's outing moves his triple-slash line down to .172/.246/.258. His struggles may prompt the Angels to acquire an outfielder leading up to the trade deadline in July.
May 27 - 1:40 AM

Matt Joyce was benched Monday afternoon because he showed up late to Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Joyce acknowledged to reporters that he thought it was a night game, calling it a "mistake that should never happen." Marc Krauss filled in at DH. Joyce is starting in left field Tuesday night versus the Blue Jays.
May 19 - 4:58 PM

Matt Joyce was a late scratch from the Angels' starting lineup Monday against the Blue Jays.

No reason has been given yet. Marc Krauss is now serving as the designated hitter for Anaheim.
May 18 - 12:27 PM

Matt Joyce will bat cleanup and serve as the designated hitter Thursday against the Astros.

David Freese hit cleanup the two previous days against southpaws, but the struggling Joyce is back in there with right-hander Collin McHugh on the hill for Houston. Efren Navarro will play left field while C.J. Cron is on the bench.
May 7 - 5:48 PM

Matt Joyce went hitless in a fifth straight start on Thursday, dropping his average to .143.

Joyce still doesn't have a homer as an Angel, and his previously strong walk rate also hasn't been in evidence (2 BB in 49 AB). The Angels don't have anyone to replace him at the moment, so they'll remain patient. Still, it's starting to get ugly.
Apr 23 - 9:53 PM

Matt Joyce (foot) finished 0-for-4 with a strikeout in his return to the Angels' lineup Sunday.

Joyce made an early exit from Saturday's game as a precautionary measure. He's been bothered by some soreness and bruising since fouling a ball off his right foot last Wednesday. It's no big deal.
Apr 20 - 9:51 AM

Matt Joyce (foot) departed early from Saturday night's game against the Astros.

Joyce made it to the top of the seventh inning, but Efren Navarro was in left field when the bottom of the seventh began. Joyce fouled a ball off his right foot Wednesday and is dealing with some lingering soreness. He should ultimately be fine.
Apr 18 - 9:12 PM

Matt Joyce is currently dealing with a sore right foot, which is why he's serving as the team's designated hitter on Friday.

Joyce fouled a ball off his foot on Thursday and it's still a bit sore, so manager Mike Scioscia opted to give him a night off defensively. It's a blow to C.J. Cron who gets bumped to the bench to let Joyce serve as the designated hitter.
Apr 17 - 6:16 PM

Matt Joyce is not in the Angels' lineup Friday.

Collin Cowgill is handling left field against left-hander Jason Vargas. The times when Joyce plays versus southpaws figure to be few and far between.
Apr 10 - 4:32 PM

Matt Joyce is in the Angels' lineup Wednesday.

Joyce had Tuesday off against a tough lefty but he's back in there a day later, although at designated hitter. Joyce is batting cleanup for the Halos. With Josh Hamilton sidelined Joyce will certainly see the lion's share of playing time, and if he continues to hit in a prime lineup spot he's definitely mixed league worthy when he's starting.
Apr 8 - 6:14 PM

Matt Joyce is not in the Angels' lineup Tuesday.

The Halos are instead going with Collin Cowgill against left-hander James Paxton. Joyce is going to sit pretty regularly versus southpaws this season.
Apr 7 - 6:44 PM

Matt Joyce went 2-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run Wednesday against the Indians.

Joyce lifted a Josh Tomlin offering to right field in the third inning, extending the Angels' lead to 2-0 at the time. The 30-year-old will likely serve as the Angels' starting left fielder while Josh Hamilton deals with both a balky shoulder and a potential disciplinary issue.
Mar 25 - 7:10 PM

Matt Joyce (hamstring) will start in left field Wednesday.

Joyce recently missed a week with hamstring tightness, but he returned to the lineup as the DH on Monday and is now ready to play the field. With Josh Hamilton's status up in the air, Joyce is projected to open the season as the starting left field and should carry decent fantasy value.
Mar 25 - 12:18 PM

Matt Joyce (hamstring) hopes to play the field Wednesday.

Joyce returned to Cactus League action Monday as the DH and went 1-for-4 with a run scored. The 30-year-old is getting the day off Tuesday, but he's making solid progress. With Josh Hamilton sidelined, Joyce should open the season as the Angels' primary left fielder.
