Due to his ability to start and pitch out of the bullpen, Zach McAllister is expected to earn a spot on the Indians' Opening Day roster.
While the 27-year-old is vying for the fifth and final spot in the Tribe's starting rotation, he demonstrated the ability to pitch well out of the bullpen in September and opened a few eyes in the organization. As he's out of options, he would have to be exposed to waivers if he doesn't earn a spot on the 25-man roster, which gives the team additional motivation to find a spot where he'll fit. Zach McAllister yielded two runs in six innings Monday in a no-decision against the Astros.

McAllister was making his first major league start since July 31; his previous two appearances this month came out of the pen. He struck out six and walked none in a solid effort, but he still fell to 3-7.

Indians recalled RHP Zach McAllister from Triple-A Columbus.

He's likely to function as a long reliever out of the Tribe's bullpen for the remainder of the season. In 14 starts with the Indians this season, he owns a 5.91 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 54/26 K/BB ratio over 67 frames.

Indians optioned RHP Zach McAllister to Triple-A Columbus.

They had to designate him for assignment on Friday because he is three years removed from his major league debut, but McAllister wasn't going to leave the organization. He'll be used in Columbus' rotation.

Indians designated RHP Zach McAllister for assignment.

It's not your typical DFA, as McAllister will be optioned once he clears waivers. The move is needed to be made this way because the righty is three years removed from his major league debut. McAllister holds a 5.91 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP this season.

Zach McAllister failed to make it out of the fourth inning, allowing four runs in 3 1/3 innings, as the Indians fell to the Mariners on Thursday.

The Mariners hung a three-spot on McAllister in the third, as Dustin Ackley ripped a two-run home run and Robinson Cano later doubled in another run. Overall, the right-hander yielded eight hits, did not walk a batter, and did not record a strikeout. 2014 has been tough for the 26-year-old, as he has a 5.91 ERA, a 1.52 WHIP, and a 54/26 K/BB ratio. He'll try to turn things around at home against the Reds next Tuesday.

Zach McAllister gave up six runs -- five earned -- in four innings Saturday in a loss to the Royals.

McAllister had a perfect first frame but was shelled for five runs in the second. He's now 3-6 with a 5.65 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 13 starts this season at the major league level and is likely headed back to Triple-A.

Indians recalled RHP Zach McAllister from Triple-A Columbus.

McAllister will start for the Indians on Saturday against the Royals. The 26-year-old is 3-5 with a 5.28 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 51/24 K/BB ratio over 59 2/3 innings with the Tribe this season. He should be avoided for fantasy purposes.

The Indians are expected to recall Zach McAllister from Triple-A Columbus to start on Saturday versus the Royals.

McAllister was sent down before the All-Star break before returning last weekend to start during a doubleheader. He pitched well in that outing and has been great at Columbus of late but will have to keep it up in order to keep a rotation spot over Danny Salazar once Justin Masterson (knee) returns. Salazar will start on Sunday.

Indians optioned RHP Zach McAllister to Triple-A Columbus.

McAllister led the Tribe to victory in the second half of Saturday's doubleheader with the Tigers, yielding just one run over 5 1/3 innings. He'll rejoin the Indians' rotation next week.

Zach McAllister delivered 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball Saturday as the Indians took the second half of a doubleheader against the Tigers.

Cleveland also won the first game. It was a nice showing from McAllister, who was called up from Triple-A Columbus to serve as the Indians' 26th man. It's not clear how he factors into the rotation mix going forward.

Zach McAllister is expected to be recalled to start during Saturday's doubleheader versus the Tigers.

McAllister was just sent down Tuesday, but he's eligible to come back up as the Tribe's 26th man Saturday. The Indians will still have to call someone up to serve as their No. 5 starter next week. Danny Santana is an option.

Indians optioned RHP Zach McAllister to Triple-A Columbus.

McAllister owns a rough 5.63 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 45/21 K/BB ratio in 54 1/3 innings (11 starts) this season for the Indians. The 26-year-old right-hander could get another shot at some point in the second half of 2014, but he is doubtful to hold fantasy relevance.

Indians recalled Zach McAllister from Triple-A Columbus.

He will return to the Indians rotation on Saturday against the White Sox, taking the place of the injured Justin Masterson. He owns a 5.89 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 43/19 K/BB ratio over 47 1/3 innings with the Tribe this season.

Zach McAllister will start for the Indians on Saturday afternoon against the White Sox.

McAllister was optioned to the Triple-A level on June 20 with a 5.89 ERA in 47 1/3 innings. The 26-year-old righty is not a good fantasy streamer versus Chicago.
