Zach McAllister was fantastic Wednesday, striking out seven over 7 2/3 scoreless frames in a 2-0 victory over the Padres.

McAllister yielded just five hits and didn't walk anyone, throwing 99 pitches over the 7 2/3 innings. The right-hander was removed after back-to-back two-out singles in the eighth, and Cody Allen bailed him out with a strikeout. McAllister has a tough matchup next week in Detroit.

The 26-year-old hurler has struggled to the tune of a 6.06 ERA this spring, but still has a spot locked up in the Indians Opening Day rotation. He'll have one final Cactus League tuneup before taking the hill in the third regular season contest.

McAllister was in trouble in all four innings in which he appeared, but the right-hander was only damaged by a Norichika Aoki RBI ground out and a third-inning Eric Hosmer solo home run. Overall, he gave up four hits, walked three, and struck one out. McAllister has otherwise had a good spring showing thus far.

McAllister was pulled after throwing just 76 pitches. He allowed four hits and two walks while striking out three, with the lone run scoring on a solo homer from Brandon Laird in the second inning. The 25-year-old now owns a 3.88 ERA through 23 starts this season. He'll finish the regular season with a start against the Twins next week in Minnesota.

McAllister fell victim to the gopher ball on Wednesday, as he gave up blasts to Adam Jones and Manny Machado among his five hits allowed. He struck out six and was otherwise pretty good, but he couldn't earn his eighth victory. He'll aim to get that victory Tuesday against the Royals.

Zach McAllister had a rough night in Friday’s loss to the Tigers, surrendering five runs on six hits in just 3 2/3 innings of work.

McAllister also issued four free passes while striking out three. In his defense, two of the runs charged to him came on a two-run "double" by Victor Martinez which was a routine fly ball that Michael Bourn lost in the lights in center field. McAllister, who had won his previous three starts before Friday’s disaster, will look to get back on track when he takes on the Orioles at home on Wednesday.

Zach McAllister was terrific in Saturday’s victory over the Twins, surrendering two runs on four hits over 7 1/3 strong innings.

McAllister whiffed five on the night while walking a pair. Brian Dozier was his nemesis in this one, driving home a run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning, and smacking a solo homer in the eighth. He’s been a very reliable performer in the Tribe’s rotation this season, posting a 3.51 ERA and 79/36 K/BB ratio over 105 innings. He'll take on the Tigers in Detroit on Friday.
