Indians manager Terry Francona confirmed Friday that Zach McAllister will remain in the Indians' bullpen.
Danny Salazar will start Saturday in his stead and remain in the rotation. Francona believes that McAllister can be a weapon out of the bullpen with his ability to work multiple innings, though his fantasy value takes a massive hit with the move. He can safely be dropped in mixed leagues. Apr 17 - 6:32 PM

Zach McAllister pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief Tuesday, allowing four hits and one run against the White Sox.

McAllister was pressed into duty after Indians starter Carlos Carrasco took a scary line drive off his face two batters into the game. McAllister allowed two inherited runs to score in the tough spot, and he gave up one of his own in the fourth before being removed. It messes with his pitching schedule, so it's unclear when -- or in what role -- we'll see McAllister next.
Apr 14 - 10:26 PM

Zach McAllister was knocked around in Friday's loss to the Tigers, giving up five runs on 13 hits over his four-plus innings.

On the positive side he managed to record five strikeouts while walking just one, but he clearly didn't have the Tigers hitters fooled at all in this one. A two-run blast by Nick Castellanos in the fifth inning was the nail in the coffin that finally chased him from the game. He'll attempt to put this one behind him when he does battle against the Twins in Minnesota on Friday.
Apr 10 - 8:07 PM

Zach McAllister yielded two runs (one earned) over 6 1/3 innings as the Indians defeated the Reds 4-3 on Thursday.

The Reds racked up nine hits but couldn't do much with them against McAllister. He also walked none and struck out four, lowering his Cactus League ERA to 2.84 in the process. Now in the No. 4 spot in the Indians rotation, McAllister will be looking to improve on last season's 5.23 ERA in 86 innings.
Apr 2 - 5:36 PM

Zach McAllister has been named the Indians' No. 4 starter.

McAllister essentially had a spot in the rotation wrapped up Friday when Danny Salazar was optioned and then went out Saturday and struck out nine over five frames. We would've liked to have seen Salazar get a shot, but McAllister is a perfectly capable back-end starter with a career 3.93 FIP and 299/122 K/BB ratio over 363 1/3 innings.
Mar 29 - 12:56 PM

Zach McAllister struck out nine Brewers batters over five innings, allowing two runs Saturday.

McAllister allowed six hits and didn't walk a batter, posting an impressive 9/0 K/BB ratio in the game. With Danny Salazar in Triple-A, McAllister has a good shot at winning a rotation spot with the Indians. Saturday's effort certainly helps that cause.
Mar 28 - 7:20 PM

Zach McAllister limited the Athletics to one unearned run over four innings in Monday's Cactus League start.

McAllister held the A's to two hits and two walks while striking out four on the afternoon. He lowered his spring ERA to 3.21 in the process, helping his bid to make the back of the Indians' starting rotation. He still ranks behind Danny Salazar and T.J. House, but he still has some time to pad his case.
Mar 23 - 7:17 PM

Zach McAllister was hit hard by the Dodgers on Saturday, responsible for four runs in three innings of work.

McAllister relieved Corey Kluber and gave up a run in each of his three frames. Overall, he allowed six hits and a walk while striking out three. The right-hander is on the outside looking in when it comes to the Indians' starting rotation, but should still find himself on the 25-man roster as a part of the bullpen when the club breaks camp.
Mar 7 - 6:08 PM

Zach McAllister allowed one run in two innings Tuesday in the Indians' Cactus League opener against the Reds.

He gave up three hits, but walked none and struck out three. McAllister is currently fighting for one of the final spots in the Indians' rotation, but he also has experience as a reliever so he should be on the Opening day roster no matter what.
Mar 3 - 6:20 PM

Due to his ability to start and pitch out of the bullpen, Zach McAllister is expected to earn a spot on the Indians' Opening Day roster.

While the 27-year-old is vying for the fifth and final spot in the Tribe's starting rotation, he demonstrated the ability to pitch well out of the bullpen in September and opened a few eyes in the organization. As he's out of options, he would have to be exposed to waivers if he doesn't earn a spot on the 25-man roster, which gives the team additional motivation to find a spot where he'll fit.
Feb 22 - 9:30 PM

Zach McAllister yielded two runs in six innings Monday in a no-decision against the Astros.

McAllister was making his first major league start since July 31; his previous two appearances this month came out of the pen. He struck out six and walked none in a solid effort, but he still fell to 3-7.

Indians recalled RHP Zach McAllister from Triple-A Columbus.

He's likely to function as a long reliever out of the Tribe's bullpen for the remainder of the season. In 14 starts with the Indians this season, he owns a 5.91 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 54/26 K/BB ratio over 67 frames.

Indians optioned RHP Zach McAllister to Triple-A Columbus.

They had to designate him for assignment on Friday because he is three years removed from his major league debut, but McAllister wasn't going to leave the organization. He'll be used in Columbus' rotation.
Sun, Aug 3, 2014 02:13:00 PM

Indians designated RHP Zach McAllister for assignment.

It's not your typical DFA, as McAllister will be optioned once he clears waivers. The move is needed to be made this way because the righty is three years removed from his major league debut. McAllister holds a 5.91 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP this season.

Zach McAllister failed to make it out of the fourth inning, allowing four runs in 3 1/3 innings, as the Indians fell to the Mariners on Thursday.

The Mariners hung a three-spot on McAllister in the third, as Dustin Ackley ripped a two-run home run and Robinson Cano later doubled in another run. Overall, the right-hander yielded eight hits, did not walk a batter, and did not record a strikeout. 2014 has been tough for the 26-year-old, as he has a 5.91 ERA, a 1.52 WHIP, and a 54/26 K/BB ratio. He'll try to turn things around at home against the Reds next Tuesday.
