Rangers designated RHP Matt West for assignment.

West loses his 40-man spot to Adam Rosales, who was re-signed on Monday. The 26-year-old right-hander, a converted infielder, missed nearly all of the 2013 season following Tommy John surgery and returned to post a 3.34 ERA on the farm in 2014. Better pitchers have passed through waivers untouched recently.

Rangers optioned RHP Matt West to Triple-A Round Rock.

West gave up three earned runs on six hits and a walk in four innings of relief for Texas. The 25-year-old right-hander has been pretty good this season at the Triple-A level and may get another shot soon.

Rangers optioned RHP Matt West to High-A Myrtle Beach.

West missed nearly all of the 2013 season following Tommy John surgery and has accumulated just 47 1/3 career innings since being converted from infielder to pitcher. The Rangers still think he has upside, but the 25-year-old is going to need to move quickly.

Matt West sprained the UCL in his right elbow and will be shut down for six weeks of strengthening.

West made the transition from third baseman to power reliever in 2011 and posted a combined 3.00 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 24 relief appearances between Low-A Spokane and High-A Myrtle Beach. If no significant progress is determined after six weeks, Tommy John surgery will likely become the next option.

Rangers purchased the contract of RHP Matt West from High-A Myrtle Beach.

West, who turns 23 next week, made the transition from third baseman to power reliever this season, posting a 3.00 ERA and a stunning 35/1 K/BB ratio over 27 innings between Low-A Spokane and High-A Myrtle Beach. The 2007 second-round pick sits in the mid-90s with his fastball and could improve his stock even more in 2012.
