Albaladejo hasn't had trouble in the minors, but he's produced just a 4.34 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over 66 career major league appearances. He'll be a longshot to crack the big league roster if he's invited to spring training.

Jonathan Albaladejo was in the Diamondbacks clubhouse Saturday, meaning that the club will have to make a corresponding move to add him to the roster.

Albaladejo was designated for assignment by the Snakes in April but remained in the organization. His presence may be an indicator that the club plans to put Joe Saunders, who was scratched from Friday's start against the Cubs, on the disabled list. Saunders told reporters that he feels fine, though he will visit with a doctor this weekend. If Saunders can make his next start, Arizona will need to jettison another player from the 25-man roster.

Albaladejo was designated for assignment earlier this week and will accept a spot on the Triple-A roster. He made just one appearance with the Diamondbacks and will serve as minor league depth.

Albaladejo was recalled to take the roster spot of Daniel Hudson, who was placed on the the disabled list Saturday with a right shoulder impingement. Albaladejo will serve as an additional arm in the bullpen until the Diamondbacks decide what to do in regards to Hudson's rotation spot.

Sherman originally reported that Albaladejo signed with the Mets, but corrected himself in a subsequent report. The 29-year-old right-hander spent the entire 2011 season in Japan. In 2010, he posted a 1.42 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 82/18 K/BB ratio in 57 relief appearances at the Triple-A level. The Diamondbacks will be looking to catch lightning in a bottle.

Jonathan Albaladejo - R - Marlins

The Yankees received $1.2 million from the Yomiuri Giants in exchange for pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo.

Albaladejo signed a one-year, $950,000 deal with the Giants after the Yankees granted him his release last week. Giants manager Tatsunori Hara said Albaladejo could possibly be used as a starter. The 28-year-old right-hander posted a gorgeous 1.42 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 82/18 K/BB ratio in 57 relief appearances this year at the Triple-A level but was clearly not part of the Yankees' future.

Jonathan Albaladejo - R - Marlins

Jonathan Albaladejo has signed a one-year, $950,000 deal with the Yomiuri Giants of Japan's Central League.

The Yankees granted Albaladejo his release last week after he told them his plans of playing overseas. Giants manager Tatsunori Hara said Albaladejo could possibly be used as a starter. He has been terrific at Triple-A the last few years, but Albaladejo has never really gotten an extended chance at the major league level. He'll probably try to use a big season in Japan as a launching pad to a bigger role with an MLB team in 2012.
