Sam Fuld (back) went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in his return to the Athletics starting lineup on Friday.
Fuld had been on the shelf since August 30 due to a continued back program that affected him while throwing and running. He has had a very disappointing season at the dish, hitting a mere .191/.267/.297 in 275 plate appearances. Sep 12 - 8:32 AM

Sam Fuld (back) hopes to return to action for the A's during their early-week series against the Astros.

Fuld has been out of commision since August 30 with a lingering back problem. He feels fine while hitting, but running and throwing are issues. That's a big problem for the defense-first utility outfielder.
Sep 7 - 1:59 PM

Sam Fuld is expected to be unavailable until Friday due to a back issue.

Fuld has dealt with the back problem off and on this season. He's hitting just .194/.271/.302 this year.
Sep 1 - 7:17 PM

Sam Fuld went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Mariners.

The homer was Fuld's first of the season. In 176 at-bats this season, he's hitting a dismal .212/.294/.324. The best we can of that batting line is that the OBP is relatively impressive given that there is no reason, whatsoever, for pitchers to pitch cautiously to him.
Jul 5 - 7:03 PM

Sam Fuld went 0-for-3 in Saturday's loss to drop his average to .191.

If Fuld weren't out of options, it'd probably be him in Triple-A and Craig Gentry in the majors right now. Fuld is just 6-for-53 this month, and he's scored a total of one run in 25 games. He's still getting a fair amount of playing time because of Coco Crisp's injury, but he's done nothing to justify it.
May 31 - 2:27 AM

Sam Fuld doubled twice in four at-bats and scored the only run that mattered in Tuesday's win against the Astros.

Fuld doubled to lead off the ballgame and later scored the game's first run on Ben Zobrist's sacrifice fly. As the A's ended up shutting out the Astros, it turned out to be the deciding run. Fuld has hit extremely well to start the season, batting .375 with four doubles, two triples, and eight runs scored in 35 plate appearances.
Apr 14 - 11:25 PM

Sam Fuld hit a two-run double in the ninth inning of a 10-inning loss to the Mariners on Sunday.

Fuld hit the RBI double off of Fernando Rodney to help spark an epic rally. The A's pushed back from a 7-3 ninth inning deficit to tie the game, only to lose an inning later when Nelson Cruz homered. Fuld finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Fuld's hitting well in the early going, with nine hits in his first 24 at-bats.
Apr 12 - 7:44 PM

Sam Fuld is playing right field and batting second in Monday's game versus the Rangers.

The A's are scrambling a bit in their outfield with both Coco Crisp (elbow) and Josh Reddick (oblique) on the shelf. In addition to Fuld playing right, Craig Gentry is in center and Ben Zobrist is in left, with Eric Sogard handling second base. Fuld will get most of his playing time in center field this season.
Apr 6 - 5:21 PM

Sam Fuld (jaw) resumed all baseball activities Monday.

Fuld will wear a protective guard when batting now after being hit in the face by an errant throw on Friday. He'll be back in game action soon and will be ready to roll for Opening Day.
Mar 23 - 9:49 PM

Sam Fuld is dealing with a swollen jaw after being hit in the face by an errant throw while running to first base in Friday's Cactus League game.

Fortunately, X-rays ruled out any fractures and Fuld isn't exhibiting any concussion symptoms. He should rest for the next couple of days while the swelling subsides, but shouldn't have any difficulty being ready for the start of the regular season.
Mar 21 - 12:23 PM

Sam Fuld is listed as day-to-day after X-rays ruled out any fractures in his jaw on Friday.

Fuld was drilled by an errant throw while running to first base during Friday's Cactus League contest. The A's will likely give him a day or two off while the swelling subsides, but he should be fully ready to go for the start of the regular season.
Mar 20 - 9:35 PM

Sam Fuld will head to the hospital for further testing after he was hit in the jaw by an errant throw.

All indications are that he is fine, but the Athletics want him to get checked out just to make sure. They should provide an update on his status shortly.
Mar 20 - 7:39 PM

Athletics and OF Sam Fuld avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year $1.75 million contract.

The deal also includes incentives. Fuld batted .239/.321/.342 with 21 steals for the A's and Twins last season and could see a good amount of playing time in left field in 2015.
Jan 16 - 2:48 PM

Sam Fuld will start in left field and bat second in Tuesday's Wild Card game against the Royals.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin has clearly prioritized defense in this one, though it's a little odd to see Fuld batting second. Coco Crisp will bat leadoff and play center field and will be followed by Fuld, Josh Donaldson 3B , Brandon Moss DH, Josh Reddick RF, Brett Lowrie SS, Stephen Vogt 1B, Geovany Soto C, and Eric Sogard 2B.

Sam Fuld tripled, doubled and drove in both A's runs in Thursday's loss to the Rangers.

Fuld entered the day at .180/.226/.280 in 50 at-bats this month, but he's been playing fairly regularly anyway, which says a lot about where the A's are as a team right now. He certainly had a nice game today, but since he was the only one, it didn't matter much.
