Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union Tribune reports that Marcus Mateo passed his physical for the Hanshin Tigers.
It's only a matter of time now before he's granted his release from the Padres to head overseas. The 31-year-old hurler did a nice job out of the Padres bullpen in 2015, registering a 4.00 ERA and 33/9 K/BB ratio across 27 innings. Sat, Dec 26, 2015 12:41:00 PM

Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Marcos Mateo underwent a physical for the Hanshin Tigers in Japan on Tuesday.

Assuming everything checks out OK, the reliever is headed overseas. Mateo, 31, pitched well over 26 appearances with the Padres in 2015, holding a 4.00 ERA and 33/9 K/BB ratio over 27 innings.

Padres activated RHP Marcos Mateo from the 15-day disabled list.

Mateo suffered a strained neck in early August. He pitched to an era of over 5.00 with the Padres earlier this season, while holding a 20/4 K/BB ratio across 17 1/3 innings.

Padres placed RHP Marcos Mateo on the 15-day disabled list with a strained neck.

Mateo boasts a 20-to-4 K-to-BB ratio in 17 1/3 innings for the Friars but his ERA is over five. Frank Garces will take his space on the active roster.

Padres selected the contract of RHP Marcos Mateo from Triple-A El Paso.

Mateo owned a 1.86 ERA and 39/10 K/BB ratio over 29 innings with El Paso, and with the Padres needing fresh arms he fit the bill. The veteran right-hander will serve in middle relief for the Friars.

Padres reassigned RHP Marcos Mateo, LHP Jason Lane and INF Ramiro Pena to minor league camp.

No huge names here. Mateo and Lane were bullpen hopefuls, while Ramiro Pena was looking for a bench utility role. The three will serve as organizational depth for the Padres.

Padres signed RHP Marcos Mateo to a minor league contract.

He'll presumably be invited to spring training. Mateo, 30, owned a 3.86 ERA and 43/17 K/BB ratio over 37 1/3 innings in the Cubs' minor league system in 2014. He once held some appeal as an MLB pitcher, but the right-hander is merely organizational bullpen depth for the Padres.

Marcos Mateo has been returned to the Cubs.

The Diamondbacks selected Mateo in December's Rule 5 Draft but couldn't find a use for him this spring in camp. The 29-year-old missed the majority of the 2013 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He owns a 5.04 ERA in 44 2/3 career major league frames.

Diamondbacks selected RHP Marcos Mateo from the Cubs in the 2013 Rule 5 draft.

Mateo should have no issues sticking in the big leagues next year. He has previous MLB experience -- collecting a 5.04 ERA over 44 2/3 innings between 2010-'11 with the Cubs -- and a big arm. The 29-year-old missed all of 2012 and most of 2013 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. Mateo, an import from the Dominican Republic, deals a high-90s fastball and a high-octane slider that sits in the upper-80s.

Cubs sent RHP Marcos Mateo outright to Triple-A Iowa.

Mateo didn't throw a pitch this season and required Tommy John surgery in June. The 28-year-old right-hander will likely be sidelined until around mid-season next year.

Marcos Mateo underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Friday.

He's been on the DL all year with elbow issues, and the Cubs finally decided that he wasn't going to get better without going under the knife. Mateo will now be sidelined well into the 2013 season.

Cubs placed RHP Marcos Mateo on the 60-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.

Mateo came down with a bit of soreness in his forearm near the end of spring training. He missed a majority of 2011 with forearm troubles, so the Cubs are going to play it as safe as possible with the righty reliever.

Marcos Mateo will be shut down for ''at least 10 days,'' following an MRI on his right elbow.

Mateo was removed from Thursday's Cactus League game after feeling ''discomfort'' in his (right) throwing arm. It's worth noting Mateo missed the majority of last season because of a forearm strain, though it's not currently known if the two injuries are related.

Marcos Mateo is scheduled to undergo an MRI Thursday night on his right forearm.

Mateo was removed from Thursday's Cactus League game after feeling some discomfort in his throwing arm. He missed half of the 2011 season with forearm issues, so there's obviously considerable concern in Cubs camp.

Marcos Mateo was pulled from Thursday's Cactus League game with an apparent arm injury.

Mateo was immediately taken to Cubs' spring training complex to be evaluated. The 27-year-old right-hander missed a large chunk of the 2012 season because of a forearm strain, but it's not known whether this most recent issue is in any way related.
