Dodgers released LHP Alberto Castillo.
Castillo was trying to earn a roster spot on a minor league deal, but he evidently failed to impress enough despite allowing just one earned run in his three appearances. The journeyman should catch on with someone as minor league depth. Sun, Mar 18, 2012 01:42:00 PM

Dodgers signed LHP Alberto Castillo to a minor league contract.

He'll also get an invite to spring training. Castillo, 36, posted a 2.31 ERA and 6/7 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings this past season with the Diamondbacks. Left-handed batters have knocked him around pretty good in the big-leagues, so he's probably a longshot to secure a specialist job.

MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez reports that the Dodgers are close to a minor league deal with Albert Castillo.

Castillo posted a promising 2.31 ERA in 17 relief appearances this past year for the Diamondbacks. He'd likely get an invitation to spring training from the Dodgers.

Diamondbacks sent LHP Alberto Castillo outright to Triple-A Reno.

It's a move made in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster as the D'Backs head into their offseason. Castillo held a 2.31 ERA and 1.46 WHIP over 17 games for Arizona this season and will likely catch on somewhere with a minor league deal over the winter.

Alberto Castillo (shoulder) tossed a scoreless inning Saturday in a rehab appearance with Triple-A Reno.

Castillo has been out since late July with a shoulder ailment. Barring any setbacks, he should be ready to return in early September.

Diamonbacks placed LHP Alberto Castillo (shoulder) on 15-day disabled list.

The 35-year-old had a fluky 0.96 ERA over 9.1 innings, given his 1.500 WHIP and 0.86 K/BB rate. Castillo will have a chance to improve his peripherals when he returns in mid-August.

Diamondbacks purchased the contract of LHP Alberto Castillo from Triple-A Reno.

Castillo inked a minor league deal with Arizona in mid-June after being dumped by the Orioles. The 35-year-old has posted a solid 1.83 ERA and 35 strikeouts 39 1/3 innings this season at the Triple-A level and will function as a middle reliever in the bigs.

Diamondbacks signed LHP Alberto Castillo to a minor league contract.

Castillo has posted a 2.89 ERA, 8.9 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 across four seasons of Triple-A ball, but he hasn't been terribly impressive when given a shot by the Orioles, who decided to cut him loose. The 34-year-old Cuban defector will try to work his way up with the D'Backs.

Orioles designated LHP Alberto Castillo for assignment.

Castillo was cleared to make room for Thursday's starter Jake Arrieta. The 34-year-old left-hander gave up 12 runs over over just 10 2/3 innings (10.13 ERA) with the Birds.

Orioles recalled LHP Alberto Castillo from Triple-A Norfolk.

That didn't take long. Castillo, 34, was optioned to the minor leagues just four days ago after a four-run outing against the Rangers. The O's are obviously hoping that he'll fare a little better this time around.

Orioles optioned LHP Alberto Castillo to Triple-A Norfolk.

The Orioles saw enough after he was smoked for four runs on four hits, including a three-run homer during Thursday's game against the Rangers. Infielder Scott Moore is expected to take his place on the roster before Friday's game.

Orioles recalled LHP Alberto Castillo from Triple-A Norfolk.

Castillo wasn't bad in his previous stint in the majors while Koji Uehara was on the disabled list, so he gets the call as the Orioles try to find a late inning combination that won't leak away wins. After Saturday's late inning fiasco against the Indians, it's hard to blame the O's for looking at new solutions to their late inning problem.

Orioles optioned LHP Alberto Castillo to Triple-A Norfolk.

Castillo was recalled only two weeks ago and did a fine job during his time in the bigs, but he was one of the few Baltimore relievers with minor league options remaining. The move cleared a spot on the 25-man roster for Koji Uehara, who will return to the O's on Thursday.

Orioles recalled LHP Alberto Castillo from Triple-A Norfolk.

The Orioles won't need a fifth starter until May 1, so it made plenty of sense to add another arm to the bullpen. Castillo, 34, allowed three runs over 12 innings (2.50 ERA) in two brief stints with the Orioles last season. The Cuban southpaw had a 5.79 ERA over five relief appearances with Triple-A Norfolk so far this season.
