Giants signed INF Russell Mitchell to a minor league contract.

Mitchell batted just .151/.208/.290 over 101 plate appearances the last two seasons with the Dodgers. He's a career .265/.325/.444 hitter and the minors and does have some defensive versatility. Mitchell has been assigned to Double-A Richmond.

Mitchell successfully cleared waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week. The 26-year-old batted .157/.259/.294 with two home runs and three RBI over 58 plate appearances with the Dodgers last season and is working his way back from wrist surgery.

There's a chance he'll sneak through waivers unclaimed.

Mitchell has played through the injury for a couple months now. The 26-year-old batted just .157/.259/.294 with two home runs and three RBI over 58 plate appearances with the Dodgers this season. He is expected to be ready to play winter ball.

Mitchell, 26, has enjoyed success hitting in the Pacific Coast League, but has a measly .132/.189/.279 batting line over his first 74 plate appearances in the majors. He is capable of playing the corner infield positions and the outfield, but we aren't expecting anything from a fantasy perspective.

Dodgers recalled INF Russell Mitchell from Triple-A Albuquerque.

He'll take the place of the injured Casey Blake on the active roster. It's an expected move, as Mitchell is the only infielder left on the 40-man roster. The 26-year-old was batting .214 (12-for-56) with three homers and 12 RBI over his first 17 games with the Isotopes. He can safely be ignored in fantasy leagues.

Dodgers purchased the contract of INF Russell Mitchell from Triple-A Albuquerque.

The 25-year-old infielder .315/.362/.536 with 23 homers and 87 RBI, so this was a just reward for a fine season. The eight-year minor league veteran is capable of playing all over the infield as well as the outfield.

The Dodgers will promote Russ Mitchell from Triple-A Albuquerque, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Mitchell, 25, is raking a .315/.362/.536 line at Triple-A this season, although he's posted just a .765 OPS in eight minor league seasons. He's bench depth.
