Michael McKenry has opted out of his minor league deal with the Rangers.
The deadline for opting out was Monday. McKenry couldn't crack the big league roster in Texas but with so many injured catchers around the league, he's sure to attract interest elsewhere. The 31-year-old posted an underwhelming .220 average in 41 at-bats for Triple-A Round Rock before opting out. May 14 - 5:00 PM

Michael McKenry can opt out of his minor league contract with the Rangers on Monday.

MLB Network's Jon Heyman suspects that McKenry will exercise the opt-out because of all the injuries at catcher around Major League Baseball. He's been stationed at Triple-A Round Rock all season. McKenry, 31, hit .205/.329/.402 with four home runs and 17 RBI in 58 games last year for the Rockies and he had a .910 OPS in 57 games with Colorado in 2014.

Rangers signed C Michael McKenry to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

McKenry batted just .205/.329/.402 four homers over 152 plate appearances with the Rockies this past season before undergoing surgery in August to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee. The 30-year-old became a free agent after the Rockies outrighted him off the 40-man roster in October. He knows Rangers manager Jeff Banister from their time together in Pittsburgh and could have a decent chance to contribute with the big club in 2016.

McKenry opted for free agency after being outrighted off the Rockies' 40-man roster on Wednesday. The 30-year-old batted .205/.329/.402 with four home runs and 17 RBI over 152 plate appearances this season prior to undergoing right knee surgery in August. He'll look for a better fit elsewhere.

Rockies sent C Michael McKenry outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.

The move clears him off the Rockies' 40-man roster. McKenry batted just .205/.329/.402 over 152 plate appearances this season prior to undergoing surgery in late August to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee. He has the right to elect free agency.

Michael McKenry underwent season-ending surgery Monday to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee.

McKenry will finish his season with a .205/.329/.402 batting line to go along with four home runs and 17 RBI over 152 plate appearances. The 30-year-old made $1.0876 million in 2015 and will be arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter.

Rockies placed C Michael McKenry on the 60-day disabled list with right lateral meniscus tear.

The knee injury will end McKenry's season. He got off to a very good start in 2015 but will wind up with an underwhelming .205/.329/.402 slash line in 58 games played. The 30-year-old backstop is arbitration-eligible this winter.

Michael McKenry slugged a walkoff two-run homer Wednesday in the Rockies' 7-5 defeat of the Mariners.

McKenry pounced on a Mayckol Guaipe pitch with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning to finally put an end to the sloppy marathon game. McKenry has regressed considerably since his roaring start, now with a .739 OPS, four home runs, and 14 RBI in 53 total games.

Michael McKenry finished 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI as the Rockies defeated the visiting Dodgers 6-3 in the first half of Tuesday's doubleheader.

McKenry cranked a two-run shot off Ian Thomas in the bottom of the fourth inning and he got to Thomas again for an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning. The veteran backup catcher has an impressive .896 OPS in 52 at-bats this season for the Rockies.

Michael McKenry smacked a two-run homer in Thursday's 7-3 win over the Phillies.

It broke a tie in the bottom of the fifth and the Rockies never looked back. McKenry also walked three times and scored two runs. The home run was his first of the season. The 30-year-old posted some nice numbers with the Rockies last season, but he's clearly Nick Hundley's backup right now and likely won't play enough to offer much in the way of fantasy value.

Michael McKenry went 3-for-4 with a double and a steal Wednesday against the Padres.

It can't hurt McKenry that Wilin Rosario was sent down, but since Nick Hundley is off to a nice start offensively and is the obviously superior defender, McKenry is still a clear backup in Colorado. One oddity is that he already has two steals; he was 0-for-3 stealing bases in 250 major league games coming into the season.

Rockies and C Michael McKenry avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.0876 million contract.

McKenry was arbitration-eligible for the first time this offseason. How much he plays in 2015 will depend on whether the Rockies trade Wilin Rosario, but either way he's slated to primarily be a backup.

Michael McKenry went 2-for-6 and hit his eighth homer Saturday against the Dodgers.

It's just 168 at-bats, but McKenry has the best numbers of any catcher in the game this year, hitting .315/.398/.512. Where that leaves him in the Rockies' plans is anyone's guess; it sounds like the team would like to upgrade from Wilin Rosario this winter (they made a run at Brian McCann last winter), but even if they can't do that, they might prefer a more defensive-minded backup, since defense is Rosario's weakness, too. At least McKenry's performance this year should mean that someone will want him.

Michael McKenry went 3-for-4 in the Rockies' 10-9 win over the Giants on Monday.

McKenry didn't do anything too flashy, singling three times. McHenry's only had 131 ABs for the Rockies, but he's been able to make the most of his opportunities. He's slashing .313/.388/.481. Despite the seemingly lofty heights of the slash-line, he doesn't get enough starting at-bats to really merit fantasy consideration unless you're desperate.

Michael McKenry went 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run home run in Wednesday's loss to the Nationals.

McKenry supplied all of the Rockies' offense on the evening, slamming a three-run shot to left field in the second inning off of Doug Fister. The catcher has hit well since being called up on June 4, but that was his first home run of the season. In 60 plate appearances, McKenry is slashing .321/.367/.464 with seven RBI.
