Reds declined RHP Burke Badenhop's $4 million option for 2016.
They'll pay him a $1.5 million buyout instead. Badenhop posted a 3.93 ERA over 68 relief appearances in 2015, striking out only 36 over 66 1/3 innings. He'll find a job somewhere this winter as a groundball specialist. Mon, Nov 2, 2015 06:02:00 PM

Reds signed RHP Burke Badenhop to a one-year, $1 million contract.

The deal includes a mutual $4 million option for 2016 with a $1.5 million buyout, guaranteeing Badenhop $2.5 million in the deal. The 31-year-old right-hander is coming off a terrific 2014 season where he posted a 2.29 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 40/19 K/BB ratio in 70 2/3 innings for the Red Sox. He's likely to work in a setup role for the Reds.

A source tells FOX Sports' Jon Morosi that the Blue Jays have kept in touch with representatives for free agent Burke Badenhop.

Morosi reported last week that the Jays were among the clubs talking with Badenhop. Another team reported to be interested, the Nationals, recently signed Casey Janssen -- the Jays' former closer -- likely taking them out of the mix. Badenhop had a 2.29 ERA in 70 2/3 innings with the Red Sox last season, and his familiarity with the AL East could be viewed as an asset by the Jays.

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Nationals and Blue Jays have been in touch with free agent reliever Burke Badenhop.

Badenhop turns 32 in February and posted a 2.29 ERA and 40/19 K/BB ratio across 70 2/3 innings with the Red Sox last season. He doesn't strike out many guys, but he induces a ton of grounders and should be a serviceable middle reliever for someone.

Red Sox manager John Farrell indicated Saturday that they are interested in bringing back impending free agent Burke Badenhop.

Farrell cited the right-hander's reliability the past few years as the reasoning. He has excelled in his first season in Boston, compiling a 2.33 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 39/19 K/BB ratio over 69 2/3 innings.

Burke Badenhop got the loss on Tuesday as the White Sox defeated the Red Sox 2-1 on a walk-off throwing error by Xander Bogaerts.

Badenhop wasn't sharp in the ninth inning, trying to keep a tie game intact. After allowing two singles (lead-off man Alejandro De Aza was caught stealing after his hit) and issuing another walk, Marcus Semien knocked a ball to Bogaerts, who made a low throw which couldn't be dug out by first baseman Mike Carp for the third out of the inning, allowing the White Sox to walk off as 2-1 winners. Badenhop hasn't been reliable in five appearances to start the season, allowing runs in each of his last four appearances.

Red Sox and RHP Burke Badenhop avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.15 million contract.

The 30-year-old was acquired from the Brewers earlier in the offseason. He posted a 3.47 ERA in 62 1/3 innings of relief in 2013. He'll be part of the Red Sox' bullpen in the upcoming season.

Red Sox acquired RHP Burke Badenhop from the Brewers in exchange for LHP Luis Ortega.

Over the last two seasons, Badenhop has posted a 3.25 ERA and identical 42/12 K/BB ratios across 62 1/3 innings. The sinkerballer made $1.55 million in 2013 and is arbitration-eligible for a final time this winter. He should make for a solid middle reliever in Boston.

Burke Badenhop twirled two scoreless innings of relief in Saturday's loss to the Pirates.

Acquired over the winter from the Rays for OF Raul Mondesi, Jr., Badenhop hasn't disappointed Milwaukee's brass, boasting a 2.11 ERA and 0.94 WHIP over 24 appearances. Badenhop hasn't given up an earned run in May, which has had a gastric bypass-type effect on his earned run average.

Brewers avoided arbitration with RHP Burke Badenhop by agreeing to a one-year, $1.55 million contract.

The ground ball specialist was in the third of four arbitration years as a Super 2 player. Badenhop posted a 3.03 ERA over 66 appearances for the Rays in 2012 and will work the middle innings in Milwaukee.

Brewers acquired RHP Burke Badenhop from the Rays for OF Raul Mondesi, Jr.

Badenhop had a 3.03 ERA with the Rays this past season and should fit nicely as a middle reliever for the Brewers. He earned $1.075 million in 2012 and is arbitration-eligible for the third time this winter. Mondesi, Jr. signed as a 17-year-old free agent in 2010 and has yet to advance beyond the rookie-league level.

Rays acquired RHP Burke Badenhop from the Marlins for C Jacob Jefferies.

Badenhop, 28, posted a 4.10 ERA and 51/24 K/BB ratio over 63 2/3 innings this past season. The ground ball specialist projects to make right around $1 million in his second year of arbitration and should fit nicely as a middle reliever for the Rays.

Burke Badenhop turned in a scoreless 10th inning in a 1-1 game between the Mets and Marlins on Monday evening, but was just getting warmed up, as Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez elected to let him bat in the top of the 11th inning, where he responded with what would prove to be the game-winning RBI single.

It was a truly bizarre night at Citi Field, with both teams getting key extra-innings hits from pitchers, and Mets manager Terry Collins electing to intentionally walk Chris Coghlan to get to Hanley Ramirez in the ninth inning, among other innings. On the mound, Badenhop has not exactly lit the world ablaze since his May 7 recall, posting a 2.08 WHIP in 4 1/3 innings of work.

Marlins recalled RHP Burke Badenhop from Triple-A New Orleans.

Badenhop pitched very well in spring training but failed to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster. He has not fared well at Triple-A, posting a 6.75 ERA over 11 games, but he's contributed for the Fish over the last two seasons and should be able to fill a middle relief role.
