Brayan Peña went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored in Monday's loss to the Cardinals.
Pena cranked a couple doubles to the wall off a Michael Wacha and then ripped a single off of Carlos Martinez, so it wasn't as if his big day was a cheapie. His only misstep of the day was when he inexplicably tried to steal a base off Yadier Molina, though it's possible Billy Hamilton missed a hit-and-run sign. With Devin Mesoraco back, Pena's playing time is about to be cut. Apr 7 - 8:15 PM

Reds signed C Brayan Pena to a two-year contract.

No word yet on the exact terms involved. Pena batted .297/.315/.397 with four homers and 22 RBI over 243 plate appearances this season with Detroit. His addition likely means that Ryan Hanigan is on the way out.

ESPN Deportes' Enrique Rojas reports that the Reds have signed Brayan Peña to a two-year contract.

Assuming he passes a physical on Tuesday, he'll earn a minimum of $1.25 million in 2014, but the rest of his deal isn't known yet. As ESPN's Buster Olney notes, bringing in Pena allows the Reds to either non-tender or trade Ryan Hanigan. Pena batted .297/.315/.397 with four homers and 22 RBI over 243 plate appearances this season as Alex Avila's backup in Detroit.

Brayan Pena wrote on his Twitter account Wednesday that he was informed that he will not return to the Tigers next season.

The Tigers presumably want to move on to Bryan Holaday as Alex Avila's backup. Pena, an impending free agent, batted .297/.315/.397 with four homers and 22 RBI over 243 plate appearances this season.

Brayan Pena (toe) is back in the starting lineup Saturday against the Mets.

Pena missed three games due to a toe injury. He's batting seventh and catching Max Scherzer in his return to the lineup.

Brayan Pena was ejected in the fourth inning of Saturday's game against the Royals.

A disagreement centered around Alcides Escobar's at-bat in the fourth inning saw Tigers manager Jim Leyland get tossed, and after Escobar's RBI double Pena hit the showers as well. Pena was hitless in two at-bats in the game. He was replaced at catcher by Bryan Holaday.

Brayan Pena went 2-for-4 with an RBI single Thursday against the Angels.

Pena, a .253 career hitter, is now batting .304 with two home runs, four doubles and 14 RBI through 115 at-bats this season. The Tigers want Alex Avila (forearm) to take his time during his minor league rehab assignment so that he can find his swing, so Pena should continue to have value in AL-only leagues for the short-term.

Brayan Pena went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in the Tigers' 11-7 victory over the Indians on Wednesday.

Pena doesn't play much -- Wednesday was just his 14th game of the year -- but when he does, he usually hits. His three-hit game raised his average to .304, and with starting catcher Alex Avila struggling it may mean more at-bats for Pena in the near future.

Brayan Peña went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's loss to the Indians.

It's actually the second straight time he's homered in a game he started, though his last start was a week ago. Peña is now batting .256 with the pair of longballs over 11 games this season.

Brayan Pena had a two-run homer and a triple Saturday against the Rays.

The Tigers could have and should have done better than Pena as their backup to Alex Avila behind the plate, but they signed him back in December when there were still plenty of alternatives available and never did bring in any competition. He finishes the spring batting .188 with three homers.

Tigers signed C Brayan Peña to a one-year contract.

He'll be Alex Avila's backup after Gerald Laird left for Atlanta. Pena is a career .248/.286/.350 hitter across eight major league seasons, as he's never cashed in on the promise he showed in the minors.

Brayan Pena has elected to become a free agent.

Pena was designated for assignment by the Royals earlier this month. He batted just .236/.262/.321 in 2012.
Wed, Nov 28, 2012 05:33:00 PM

Royals designated C Brayan Pena for assignment.

Not a surprising move, as Pena was considered a non-tender candidate. The 30-year-old backstop batted .236/.262/.321 with two home runs, 25 RBI and a .583 OPS in 68 games this season while earning $875,000.

Brayan Pena made the most of his opportunity to start on Friday, delivering two hits and a pair of RBI in the Royals 6-3 victory over the Indians.

He finished the night 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and two RBI. Pena drew the start with Salvador Perez unavailable while he tends to a hand injury. His RBI single got the Royals on the board in the second inning, then he delivered an RBI double in the eighth, providing valuable insurance. He's hitting .253/.282/.337 with two homers and 24 RBI in limited at-bats on the year.

Bryan Pena went 1-for-3 with an RBI double and a run scored in Friday’s loss to the Tigers.

Pena has seen his playing time severely limited recently with the return of Salvador Perez to the lineup. He’s now hitting .269 with one homer and 16 RBI in 134 at-bats on the year. While he’s never held much value outside of AL-only leagues when he was starting, he shouldn’t be started in any format with Perez back in tow.
