Brayan Peña got a pinch-hit single in Saturday's loss to the Marlins.

Pena exited Friday's contest with a tight left hamstring, but the fact that he was able to pinch-hit a day later is a good sign. He should be back in the lineup shortly.
Aug 10 - 6:39 AM

Brayan Pena was removed from Friday's game against the Marlins due to a tight left hamstring.

He appeared to pull up lame while running to first base as he singled in his lone at bat. While he remained in the game to run the bases, he was replaced before the start of the next inning for what the Reds are calling precautionary reasons. Consider him day-to-day and expect him to return at some point over the weekend.
Aug 8 - 8:14 PM

Brayan Pena clubbed two solo home runs in a loss to the Yankees on Friday.

Who needs Joey Votto, anyway? Filling in at first base on Friday, Pena is now the second player in Reds' history with a multi-homer game at Yankee Stadium. The other? Johnny Bench in Game 4 of the 1976 World Series. Pena doesn't inspire much enthusiasm in fantasy leagues, but he could be worth a shot in two-catcher NL-only leagues if the playing time is there.

Brayan Pena had a pinch-hit go-ahead RBI single in Friday's 6-5 win over the Pirates.

The Pirates held a 5-3 lead going into the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Reds rallied for three runs on five hits against Tony Watson to take the lead. Pena's two-out single proved to be the difference. The 32-year-old has done a respectable job as Devin Mesoraco's backup this season, batting .257 with three home runs and a . 675 OPS over 63 games.

Jul 10 - 10:08 AM

Brayan Peña (forearm) is expected to be in the lineup Wednesday.

Pena was dealing with soreness in his right forearm even before going on paternity leave, and he then sat out both games of Tuesday's doubleheader. The Reds are expected to use him as their primary first baseman while Joey Votto (quad) is out. "We were planning on giving him a couple of days of TLC, which he was able to get at home with his wife and new daughter, but I'd love to have him not do much for another day," manager Bryan Price said between games Tuesday. "I think it's a lot more probable that you'll see him more involved beginning (Wednesday)."
Jul 9 - 10:14 AM

Reds activated C Brayan Pena from the paternity leave list.

Jul 6 - 10:53 AM

Brayan Pena was a late scratch from the Reds' starting lineup Saturday versus the Brewers.

He's a little banged up, but it should be nothing to worry about. "Pena is a usable piece today. It's nothing extreme," said Reds manager Bryan Price. "It just made more sense to have the guy that's closer to 100 percent behind the plate." Devin Mesoraco will get the start in his place.
