He'll take the place of Jason Hammel (paternity leave) on the active roster. Roenicke, 29, hasn't given up a run over 8 1/3 innings with the Rockies this season while striking out eight and walking three. He should stick with the big club down the stretch.

Blue Jays recalled RHP Josh Roenicke from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Roenicke, 27, posted a 7.13 ERA and 1.76 WHIP in 13 relief appearances after being acquired from the Reds in the Scott Rolen trade last July, battling elbow soreness. The 6-foot-3 sinkerballer had 8 2/3 scoreless innings under his belt with Triple-A Las Vegas to begin the season. It's unlikely that he finds himself in the mix for saves anytime soon, but he profiles in the back end of a bullpen in the long-term.

Josh Roenicke, who hadn't pitched since August 28 due to elbow soreness, returned to action on Sunday.

Roenicke struggled, walking three and giving up two hits en route to three runs in just one inning of work. It's likely that the Jays will shut him down if his elbow acts up again after the poor outing.

Blue Jays activated RHP Josh Roenicke.

Roenicke came over Friday in the Scott Rolen deal and immediately slides into the bullpen. He had a 14/4 K/BB ratio in 13.1 innings for the Reds on the season. He's also pitched at the Triple-A level on the year. Roenicke has been clocked at 100 mph and has a hard slider, so he could develop into a closer.

RHP Josh Roenicke was sent from Cincinnati to Toronto in a four-player deal.

Roenicke had 12 saves and a 2.57 ERA as Triple-A Louisville's closer this year. In 11 major league appearances, he had a 2.70 ERA. He has the ability to serve as a long-term setup man with his excellent fastball, and he's ready to contribute now. However, the Jays might not have room for him after declining to move either Jason Frasor or Scott Downs.
