Chris Getz has decided to retire from baseball.
Getz was outrighted off the Blue Jays' 40-man roster earlier this week but has decided to hang up his cleats rather than report to Triple-A Buffalo. Just 30, Getz finishes his career with a .250/.309/.307 batting line over parts of seven major league seasons. "I've enjoyed every minute that I've played and will always be passionate about the game," Getz said. "I'm starting a family, and I'm interested in other endeavors both inside and outside of the game." May 16 - 9:40 AM

Blue Jays purchased the contract of INF Chris Getz from Triple-A Buffalo.

Getz was batting .309/.382/.338 with nine RBI and six steals over his first 18 games in Triple-A and should get most of the playing time at second base following the Ryan Goins demotion. With his speed, he's worth considering in deeper fantasy leagues.

Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports that the Blue Jays will call up Chris Getz prior to Tuesday's game.

He'll take the roster spot of Ryan Goins, who has already been sent down. Getz earned the promotion after batting .309/.382/.338 with nine RBI and six steals over his first 18 games at Triple-A Buffalo. He should see a good amount of playing time at second base and makes for a worthy deep league pickup due to his speed.
