Chris Getz hasn't collected a hit since May 4.
He hasn't played since May 13 and owns an ugly .170 OPS in 18 plate appearances this month. Getz has never been much of a hitter, but his .193/.221/.301 slash line in 2013 resets the bar to a new low. Kansas City is making due with Elliot Johnson and Miguel Tejada at second, which tells you all you need to know about their opinion of Getz. With additional help on the way from the farm, Getz may have just squandered his last opportunity to seize a starting major league gig. May 19 - 3:40 AM

Chris Getz went 0-for-2 with a strikeout before being removed for a pinch-hitter Monday against the Indians.

Getz's average is down to .227, and he's walked just twice in 66 at-bats this season, giving him a dreadful .250 OBP. He's also yet to attempt a steal, which is very disappointing for anyone unfortunate enough to have him on their fantasy teams. Maybe the Royals will consider giving Miguel Tejada a look at second base if this keeps up.

Chris Getz hit a solo home run in the Royals' 3-2 win over the Reds on Friday.

Some rare power from Getz, who hasn't homered in a regular season game since 2009. Johnny Giavotella is off to a nice start this spring, but Getz isn't giving up the second base job without a fight. Unfortunately, speed is the only thing he brings to the table from a fantasy perspective.
Mar 1 - 7:07 PM

Royals manager Ned Yost said the second base job is a two-man battle between Chris Getz and Johnny Giavotella.

It's not breaking news, but confirms what we already knew was going to be the case. Getz remains the favorite to open the season as the Royals' starting second baseman. Giavotella is younger with more upside and could push for a platoon role in spring training.

Chris Getz said his surgically-repaired left thumb "hasn’t hindered my offseason workouts at all."

"On the surface, it doesn’t look good, but it’s a good scar," said Getz, who had the operation in August to repair a fracture. "It feels really good. It hasn’t hindered my offseason workouts at all. There have been no issues. I’m not even thinking about it." A career .257/.314/.316 hitter, Getz is expected to be the Royals' regular second baseman in 2013, though he'll face some competition from Johnny Giavotella.

Royals avoided arbitration with 2B Chris Getz by agreeing to a one-year, $1.05 million contract.

He'll also have a chance to earn an additional $150,000 in incentives, giving him a modest raise from his 2012 salary of $967,500. As it stands right now, the 29-year-old will probably be the team's Opening Day second baseman next season.

Chris Getz underwent surgery Saturday on his left thumb.

The procedure requires only an eight-week recovery, so Getz should have a normal winter. He hit .275/.312/.360 with zero homers and 17 RBI in 64 games this year.

Chris Getz (thumb) is scheduled to undergo surgery Saturday, and is out for the season.

Getz was injured on a bunt attempt in Friday's game against the White Sox, and will be placed on the 15-day disabled list. The Royals have yet to make an official announcement, but look for Johnny Giavotella to be recalled in a corresponding move.

Chris Getz was removed from Friday's game with a left thumb fracture.

Getz was injured on a bunt attempt in the fifth inning and replaced by Tony Abreu at second base. The Royals have yet to make an official announcement, but he'll almost certainly be placed on the disabled list.

Royals activated 2B Chris Getz from the 15-day disabled list.

Getz is returning to a platoon role with Yuniesky Betancourt after missing two weeks with a lateral strain in his lower left leg. Both Getz and Lorenzo Cain have been reinstated to the 25-man roster.

Chris Getz (lateral strain) is expected to return after the All-Star break.

Getz has been on the disabled list since June 18 with a lateral strain in his lower left leg. He'll resume his platoon role with Yuniesky Betancourt when healthy.

Chris Getz (lateral strain) is expected to be activated from the disabled list when first eligible.

The injury isn't a major concern, but the Royals couldn't wait for him to get healthy, so he went back on the DL just five days after coming off it. Yuniesky Betancourt will continue to get regular playing time at second base in his absence.

Royals placed INF Chris Getz on the 15-day disabled list with a lateral strain in his lower left leg.

Getz’s injury occurred just five days after he returned from a DL-stint for a bruised left rib cage. Yuniesky Betancourt figures to get most of the playing time during his absence.

Chris Getz left the clubhouse Sunday wearing a protective boot.

"Doesn't look good," tweeted the KC Star's Bob Dutton. Getz left Sunday's game with a lateral lower leg strain. Getz was activated from the disabled list earlier this week after suffering from a left ribcage contusion and it appears as though he could be headed back to the DL.

Updating a previous item, Chris Getz was diagnosed with a lateral lower leg strain.

The severity of the injury isn't yet known, but he may be given a couple days off for precautionary reasons. Getz was activated from the disabled list earlier this week and could be looking at another setback.
