Brewers optioned RHP Nick Green and RHP Tim Dillard to Triple-A Nashville; optioned RHP Alex Periard and RHP Omar Aguilar to Double-A Huntsville; optioned RHP Mark Rogers to Single-A Brevard County; optioned RHP Cody Scarpetta to Single-A Wisconsin.
Even with Braden Looper out, Green wasn't given any starts this spring. He gave up six runs over seven innings in four relief appearances. Dillard, who is expected to move into the rotation this year after spending 2008 in the pen, allowed one earned run in 6 1/3 innings. Sun, Mar 15, 2009 02:24:00 PM

Brewers claimed RHP Nick Green off waivers from the Angels.

Green finished 8-8 with a 5.32 ERA last season, but that was in the PCL and at Salt Lake, one of the best environments for hitters in the minors. He has pretty good command of an average arsenal, making him a fringe fifth-starter type. With little pitching depth in the upper levels of the minors, the Brewers have use for another one of those. He'll head back to Triple-A for the start of the year.

The Angels have reportedly asked for outright waivers on right-hander Nick Green.

The team hasn't signed anyone recently, so the curious timing of the move suggests that Green is either hurt or he was involved in some sort of off-the-field incident. The third possibility is that the Angels are preemptively clearing room to make a move. They're rumored to have interest in Bobby Abreu.

Nick Green pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings to move to 3-0 for Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.

Green couldn't have made it much more clear that he should have been the Angels' starter in Thursday's game. While he's obviously not as talented as Dustin Moseley, he was actually due to pitch on four days' rest and he's already on the 40-man roster. The 23-year-old has a 2.78 ERA in six starts for Salt Lake.

Nick Green threw six hitless innings Saturday to pick up a victory for Triple-A Salt Lake.

Green is 2-0 with a 2.74 ERA after four starts. The 23-year-old almost certainly will make his major league debut sometime this year as long as he remains healthy. He'll be an option as either a stopgap starter or a middle reliever for the Angels.
