Buster Posey connected for a pinch-hit, go-ahead two-run double in Wednesday's win over the Indians.
Posey initially received the day off on Wednesday, but with the Giants trailing 4-3 and threatening in the eighth inning, manager Bruce Bochy decided to summon his All-Star catcher from off the bench. That move worked out plenty well, with Posey proceeding to pick up a two-run double to flip the score to 5-4, Giants. For the campaign as a whole, Posey is hitting .329/.409/.508 with 11 homers and 40 RBI in 295 at-bats. He is as reliable as they come. Jul 19 - 8:38 PM

Nick Hundley will catch and hit sixth versus Cleveland right-hander Carlos Carrasco with Posey taking a routine breather. Hunter Pence will also get the day off.
Jul 19 - 1:53 PM

Buster Posey went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and a walk to lead the Giants to a 5-4 win over the Padres on Friday.

Posey had opened July in a 4-for-26 slump, and another bad game tonight would have dropped his OPS below .900 for the first time since early May. Still, Posey is a tough guy to keep down for long. His .326 average is tops in the NL among those who don't play for the Nationals (Daniel Murphy (.342), Bryce Harper (.327) and Ryan Zimmermann (.327) occupy the top three spots).

Buster Posey is not in the Giants' lineup Sunday.

Posey has a cross-country flight after the game for the All-Star festivities in Miami, so the Giants will give him a break. Nick Hundley is doing the catching.
Jul 9 - 1:29 PM

Buster Posey will serve as the designated hitter Tuesday against the Tigers.

Posey will be able to get a bit of a break under American League rules. Nick Hundley will start behind the plate and catch Matt Cain.
Jul 4 - 10:59 AM

Buster Posey went 3-for-4 with an RBI double and three total RBI in Monday's win over the Rockies.

Posey rocked a deep RBI double off German Marquez in the first inning, came through with a sacrifice fly in the third and put a cap on his fine evening with an RBI single in the ninth. The All-Star backstop is slashing a blistering .347/.424/.536 with 10 homers and 33 RBI in 239 at-bats this season. If the Giants were anywhere close to contention -- sitting at 28-51 in an ultra-competitive NL West, they have a giant fork sticking out of their back right now -- Posey would probably be drawing some level of early MVP talk.
Jun 27 - 1:37 AM

Buster Posey was an extra-base hit machine Thursday, finishing 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in a loss to the Braves.

Posey has always had a penchant for hitting left-handed pitching and feasted on Braves starter Jaime Garcia in this one, hitting a solo homer in the second and smacking two doubles off the southpaw before Garcia could be relieved. The homer was Posey's 10th of the season, the sixth straight year the backstop has reached double-digits in dingers. Quietly, the 30-year-old is having a remarkable offensive year this season, batting .344/.427/.537 through 63 games.
Jun 23 - 1:37 AM

Buster Posey (ankle) returned to the Giants' starting lineup on Saturday.

He's getting the call at first base, rather than catcher, in this one to take a bit of the stress off of his injured ankle. The Giants' will need his bat too, as four of their regulars are sitting this one out.
Jun 17 - 1:03 PM

Buster Posey (ankle) appeared as a pinch hitter during Friday's game against the Rockies, drawing a walk in his lone plate appearance.

The hard-hitting backstop left Thursday's game after tweaking his left ankle while crushing a home run. The injury is minor though and won't require a trip to the disabled list. He's expected to return to the starting lineup on Saturday.
Jun 17 - 8:30 AM

Buster Posey (ankle) said he could be available off the bench Friday night against the Rockies.

Posey left Thursday's loss after tweaking his left ankle while hitting a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning, but it's nothing serious. "I'm really happy with the way I feel," the star catcher said Friday, adding that he plans to return to the Giants' starting lineup Saturday.
Jun 16 - 5:41 PM

Buster Posey (ankle) said late Thursday that he's optimistic he won't miss much time.

Posey left Thursday's 10-9 loss to the Rockies after tweaking his left ankle while belting a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning, but he told reporters after the game that he was already feeling much better. Giants trainers believe it was a scar-tissue breakup, which can sometimes be painful. This doesn't sound like a disabled list situation, though Posey may get multiple days off this weekend. Nick Hundley took over behind the plate Thursday in Colorado.
Jun 16 - 6:40 AM

Buster Posey left Thursday's game against the Rockies with a sore ankle.

Posey limped back to the clubhouse after drilling a two-run homer in the seventh inning. He never returned and was soon replaced by Nick Hundley behind the dish. Posey had an eventful night, committing two errors while going 3-for-4 at the plate. Eduardo Nunez got hurt in the same inning, leaving with hamstring tightness. Both players are considered day-to-day.
Jun 15 - 11:27 PM

Buster Posey collected a single, double and a run scored across three at-bats in Tuesday's loss against Kansas City.

After a brief cold spell near the end of May, Posey is doing what he does best. He has collected 20 hits over his past 49 at-bats (.408) to improve his already solid .333 average back up to a robust .352. He continues to pile up the hits, collecting hits in 12 of his past 13 outings.
Jun 14 - 3:29 AM

Buster Posey is getting the day off Thursday.

Nick Hundley will start at catcher and bat sixth and Brandon Belt will start at first base and bat cleanup versus Brewers right-hander Paolo Espino. Hunter Pence is also getting the day off Thursday, with Gorkys Hernandez handling right field.
Jun 8 - 11:42 AM

Buster Posey went 3-for-4 with a walk and RBI in Tuesday's game against the Nationals.

Posey has enjoyed Nationals pitching, going 5-for-7 with a pair of walks in the first two games of the series, pushing his average back up to .351 after an 09-for-11 mini-slump from May 24-28. The past couple of days is why you stick with Posey through thick and thin.
