Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Thursday that he plans to rest Buster Posey more this season.
"The plan really all year with Buster, probably, is to give him a few more breaks than what I’ve given in the past," Bochy said. Posey set career highs in games played and plate appearances last season, although he started 37 games at first base. He's been at first just twice so far this season and it sounds like he'll see more full days off rather than play first when he's not catching. While Posey's fantasy owners might not like him playing fewer games, it could be good for his production in the long run if it helps keep him fresher. Apr 29 - 12:30 PM

Buster Posey is getting a day off Wednesday.

Trevor Brown will start at catcher and bat eighth versus Padres right-hander Andrew Cashner. A scheduled off day Thursday allows the Giants to get Posey back-to-back days of rest. He's slashing .264/.325/.417 with three home runs in 19 games this season.
Apr 27 - 1:33 PM

Buster Posey is out of the Giants' starting lineup Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

Trevor Brown will start at catcher and bat eighth versus Arizona right-hander Shelby Miller. Posey went 0-for-4 on Wednesday and has an underwhelming .255/.328/.392 batting line in 14 games this season.
Apr 21 - 1:23 PM

Buster Posey is starting at first base Tuesday night against the Diamondbacks.

It'll be his first start there this season. He's batting third. Trevor Brown will catch Giants right-hander Matt Cain and bat fifth versus Arizona lefty Robbie Ray.
Apr 19 - 6:25 PM

Giants manager Bruce Bochy says Buster Posey is fine.

Trevor Brown replaced Posey in the seventh inning Thursday against Colorado but that was just to give him a breather after catching 62 pitches in the fifth inning. He should be back behind the dish Friday with Madison Bumgarner throwing.
Apr 14 - 7:42 PM

Buster Posey (foot) is back in the Giants' starting lineup Thursday afternoon against the Rockies.

Posey will catch and bat third versus Colorado left-hander Jorge De La Rosa after missing two games with a bruised right foot. Trevor Brown is on the bench.
Apr 14 - 12:32 PM

Buster Posey (foot) will not play in Wednesday's showdown with the Rockies.

Posey also sat out Tuesday's game due to a bruised right foot. X-rays came back negative, but the Giants are taking no chances with their star catcher. There are no indications that this is any sort of major injury, meaning that Posey should return to the lineup in relatively short order. Trevor Brown -- who homered twice in place of Posey on Tuesday -- will start at catcher on Wednesday. He is batting eighth.
Apr 13 - 5:38 PM

Buster Posey (foot) could sit out again Wednesday.

Posey missed Tuesday's game against the Rockies with a bruised foot and his backup, Trevor Brown, slugged two home runs. Brown may start again Wednesday, though Posey is planning to test the foot in pregame workouts.
Apr 13 - 3:25 PM

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Buster Posey (foot) will be available off the bench Tuesday.

Posey is being held out of the starting lineup Tuesday night against the Rockies after taking a hard foul tip off his foot over the weekend. X-rays administered Monday came back negative and he should return to action on Wednesday. Trevor Brown will catch Jeff Samardzija and bat eighth versus Rockies right-hander Tyler Chatwood.
Apr 12 - 6:56 PM

Buster Posey is day-to-day with a bruised foot.

That's the reason for his absence Tuesday night against the Rockies after Monday's scheduled off day. Posey took a foul tip hard off his foot over the weekend but should be fine after one game of rest. Trevor Brown is catching Jeff Samardzija and batting eighth versus Colorado right-hander Tyler Chatwood.
Apr 12 - 4:56 PM

Buster Posey is getting a day off Tuesday.

Trevor Brown will start at catcher and bat eighth against Rockies right-hander Tyler Chatwood. Posey is batting .391/.444/.696 with two home runs and five RBI in seven games this season for San Francisco.
Apr 12 - 4:17 PM

Buster Posey is not in the Giants starting lineup for Friday's contest against the Dodgers.

This move was expected, as Trevor Brown will serve as the personal catcher for Matt Cain throughout the season. Look for Posey to be back in the heart of the Giants order on Saturday.
Apr 8 - 6:04 PM

Buster Posey expects to get the day off Friday against the Dodgers.

Trevor Brown is Matt Cain's personal catcher so it's probably a safe guess. It will give him a chance to rest up before catching Madison Bumgarner Saturday in a big matchup against Clayton Kershaw. Posey had a monster game Thursday with three hits and a pair of RBI.
Apr 7 - 9:02 PM

Buster Posey went 2-for-4 with a solo home run as the Giants trounced the Brewers on Opening Day.

Posey's home run off Brewers reliever Ariel Pena in the top of the eighth inning capped off back-to-back-to-back blasts for the Giants, who went on to win 12-3 at Miller Park. Denard Span and Joe Panik hit the other two eighth-inning homers, also off Pena. Posey battled the flu over the weekend (and may have passed it to Opening Day starter Madison Bumgarner) but he looked plenty close to full health in Game 1 of 162.
Apr 4 - 7:16 PM

Buster Posey was scratched from the Giants starting lineup for Saturday's Cactus League finale due to the flu.

Just a minor illness, nothing to see here. Posey will be in the lineup when the Giants kick off the regular season in Milwaukee on Monday.
