Buster Posey (thumb) was back in the lineup for Tuesday's game at Arizona, finishing hitless in three at-bats.
The bad news is that he didn't post any hits in his return, but the good news is that he was able to play the entire game behind the dish without any setbacks. Get him back into the active fantasy lineup if you normally rely upon him, as his thumb issue appears to be in the rear-view mirror. Apr 18 - 1:47 AM

Date:

Buster Posey is not playing Sunday because of a swollen right thumb, but he's expected back in the lineup Tuesday following Monday's off day.

In other words, it doesn't appear to be anything to worry about, at least not at this point. Nick Hundley is getting the start at catcher on Sunday in Posey's place.
Apr 15 - 2:48 PM

Buster Posey is absent from the Giants' lineup Sunday.

It's a routine day off. Nick Hundley will catch Tyler Beede. The Giants are also resting Brandon Crawford in favor of Kelby Tomlinson.

Buster Posey went 1-for-4 with a two-run double in Thursday's win over the Padres.

Posey notched an RBI double in the sixth inning to widen what had been a 5-0 advantage for the Giants. That two-bagger was his third of the young season. The All Star backstop is off to a clean start to the year and currently sports a .375/.435/.600 triple-slash with two homers and eight RBI in 12 games played. He's now driven in a run in three consecutive contests. There is no fantasy catcher who has proven to be as consistent as Posey on a year-in, year-out basis.
Apr 13 - 1:13 AM

Buster Posey hit a two-run homer in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

The blast was off Diamondbacks' starter Robbie Ray in the fifth inning, and Posey also singled. It's been an excellent beginning to Posey's 2018 campaign, and the big game gives him a line of .389/.439/.611 on the season. You won't find too many better offensive backstops in baseball, and it doesn't seem like Posey is going to slowdown any time soon.
Apr 11 - 7:07 PM

Buster Posey is not in the Giants' lineup Sunday.

He'll sit in favor of Nick Hundley as the Giants face Clayton Kershaw. The club also has Kelby Tomlinson at shortstop in place of Brandon Crawford.

Buster Posey went 2-for-4 with a double and swiped his first base of the season in a losing effort against the Dodgers on Sunday night in Los Angeles.

As a team, the Giants tallied just five hits in the contest with Posey the only player accounting for more than one. He's hitting .308 (4-for-13) on the young season, but is still searching for his first RBI.
Apr 1 - 11:28 PM

Buster Posey paced the Giants with two hits Saturday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Posey got off to a tough start by striking out in his first at-bat but redeemed himself by singling in his next at-bat. He followed that up with sixth-inning double, though the Giants would strand him at second. The former MVP had been hitless in six at-bats prior to Saturday’s breakout.
Apr 1 - 12:31 AM

Buster Posey went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's split-squad Cactus League loss to the Reds.

Posey connected in the fourth inning for his first home run of the spring. He dealt with a minor left ankle injury earlier in March but has since returned without setback or additional issue. While the veteran backstop hit just 12 home runs last season -- his lowest career total for a season in which he's appeared in at least 100 games -- that modest power mark came with a lovely .320/.400/.462 batting line. Posey doesn't offer the same sort of power upside as a Gary Sanchez, but he remains arguably the most consistent fantasy catcher in the game. All the more so if he can rediscover his power stroke.
Mar 17 - 7:09 PM

Buster Posey was given a cortisone shot in his ailing left ankle this week and went 3-for-3 with two doubles in his return to action Friday.

Posey also underwent a precautionary MRI, which came back clean. The hope is obviously that the ankle will now be a non-issue for him going forward.
Mar 9 - 5:03 PM

Buster Posey (ankle) will start against the Mariners on Friday in the Cactus League.

Posey hasn't appeared in a game since injuring his ankle on February 25. There was talk that he would return on Tuesday, but the Giants are playing things safe with the 30-year-old catcher. He'll once again be among the best backstops in baseball in 2018.
Mar 7 - 6:38 PM

Buster Posey (ankle) remains out of the Giants' Cactus League lineup on Wednesday.

Posey hasn't appeared in a Cactus League game since going 1-for-2 with two RBI in his spring debut on February 25. He's batting a left ankle injury, which might be more than a normal sprain given the lengthy absence from live action. There should be more information soon.
Mar 7 - 12:18 PM

Buster Posey (ankle) will be held out at least through next Tuesday.

Posey's left ankle is still bothering him but the Giants are hoping he'll be ready to go after their off day on Tuesday. The Giants are exercising similar caution with Evan Longoria, who isn't expected to debut at third base until Wednesday at the earliest. Posey's power numbers have dropped off considerably but he's still a good bet to hit .300, a mark he's cleared in three of his last four seasons. The former MVP is one of the only sure things at a thin fantasy position.
Mar 1 - 7:03 PM

Buster Posey (ankle) is back in the Giants' lineup Sunday.

Posey sat out Saturday with a mild ankle injury, but he's back in there a day later. The Giants are taking on the Cubs in Cactus League action.
Feb 25 - 10:53 AM

Buster Posey is being held out of Cactus League action due to what manager Bruce Bochy said is a mild ankle tweak.

It sounds like the Giants are just being cautious with their star catcher. If the issue persists it's perhaps a cause for concern, but with the calendar still showing February there's no reason to get too worked up over it.
