According to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi, Darwin Barney and the Blue Jays have agreed to a one-year major league contract pending a physical.

Barney came over to the Blue Jays from the Dodgers in the middle of September. Between the two clubs, he saw just 15 games of action at the major league level. He was outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo on October 23 and subsequently elected free agency. It looked like he would probably have to settle for a minor league deal with a spring training invite, but the Blue Jays have opted to bring him back on a reported major league contract of one year. The 30-year-old infielder's a career .246/.294/.339 hitter.

Darwin Barney has elected free agency.

The 29-year-old infielder appeared in only 15 games at the big league level between the Dodgers and Blue Jays in 2015, slashing .259/.286/.519 with a pair of homers and four RBI in just 27 at-bats. He may have to settle for a minor league deal with spring training invite this winter.

Blue Jays sent INF Darwin Barney outright to Triple-A Buffalo.

He had been designated for assignment but has cleared waivers. Barney has the option of declaring free agency if he wants.

Blue Jays designated INF Darwin Barney for assignment.

Barney's being designated for assignment because the club picked up reliever Pat Venditte off waivers. The Jays acquired Barney from the Dodgers in mid-September in exchange for catcher Jack Murphy. In 27 at-bats between the two teams, the 29-year-old infielder hit .259/.286/.519 with two homers, a double and four RBI.

Darwin Barney will start at second base Tuesday against the Orioles.

The Blue Jays want a better defender at second base with Marcus Stroman's ground ball tendencies, so Barney gets the nod over Cliff Pennington. Barney is batting ninth against right-hander Miguel Gonzalez.

Blue Jays acquired INF Darwin Barney from the Dodgers in exchange for C Jack Murphy.

Barney isn't eligible for the postseason roster, but he'll give the club some depth down the stretch with Troy Tulowitzki's (shoulder) status up in the air. He's been at Triple-A almost all season, hitting .277/.325/.354 with four homers.

Dodgers sent INF Darwin Barney outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Barney, who is making $2.525 million this season, unsurprisingly cleared waivers after being designated for assignment last week. The 29-year-old appeared in two games with the Dodgers in April and is batting just .214/.273/.259 over 32 games in Triple-A this year.

Dodgers designated INF Darwin Barney for assignment.

Barney has seen just four plate appearances this season. Even at his best, his bat is almost completely devoid of power and he hit just .241/.300/.342 over 262 at-bats last season. He'll try to latch on as a utility player elsewhere.

Dodgers optioned INF Darwin Barney to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Barney was off to an 0-for-4 start. He plays very good defense all over the infield, but the Dodgers needed to open a roster spot for Tuesday's starter, David Huff. Barney should be back up at some point.

Darwin Barney went 2-for-2 with a double, a triple, and a run scored in Wednesday's Cactus League match-up with the Royals.

Barney's forte hasn't been his bat, but he's swung a hot bat this spring. As the Dodgers break camp, he's batting .341 (15-for-44) with eight extra-base hits. He's made a strong case for inclusion on the 25-man roster as a reserve.

Darwin Barney went 3-for-3 with an RBI double in Monday's Cactus League match-up with the Athletics.

Barney was hitting only .150 entering the afternoon and exited at .300 -- the luxury of small sample sizes. The infielder was productive for the Dodgers after coming over from the Cubs last season, posting an .891 OPS in 45 plate appearances, but he'll be relied on for his glove off the bench, not his bat. He has a career .630 OPS.

Dodgers and INF Darwin Barney avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.525 million contract.

Barney was acquired from the Cubs at the trade deadline. He's a useful bench piece defensively, though he hit just .241/.300/.342 in 237 ABs between the Chicago and Los Angeles in 2014.

Dodgers recalled INF Darwin Barney from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Barney has been primarily a second baseman during his career, but he's been playing shortstop at Albuquerque and could see time there with Hanley Ramirez (oblique). While a nice defensive option, he won't give the Dodgers much at the plate.

Dodgers optioned 2B Darwin Barney to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Barney was acquired from the Cubs earlier this week for pitcher Jonathan Martinez, but the 28-year-old infielder is going to get some time in the minors before joining Los Angeles' active roster. Barney is an elite defender at second base, but he owns a .244/.290/.335 career slash line at the major league level.
