According to Ben Nicholson-Smith of, Dan Johnson is learning to throw a knuckleball.
Johnson has been toying with the pitch for a while, but he began to get more serious about it in 2013. As someone who turned 35 in August and has bounced back and forth from the majors to the minors, the hope is that his work on the pitch will allow him to hang around a bit longer. "Why not have something else in the bag? Give yourself every chance," said Johnson. "I’m not 24 anymore. I want to help out as much as possible and still be relevant in this game." Johnson became a free agent earlier this month and should be able to latch on somewhere as a spring training invite. Oct 9 - 5:10 PM

The 35-year-old was outrighted off the 40-man roster earlier in the week. He struggled in his 15 games with the Blue Jays in 2014, and slashed .232/.381/.434 with 18 homers and 56 games in 107 contests at Triple-A Buffalo. He'll look to secure a minor league deal and spring training invitation elsewhere.

Dan Johnson homered and drove home four runs on Saturday, powering the Blue Jays to a 6-4 victory over the Yankees in New York.

Johnson had an RBI double in the fourth inning and later added a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Jul 19 - 4:49 PM

Blue Jays purchased the contract of 1B/DH Dan Johnson from Triple-A Buffalo.

They need someone to take the roster spot of Adam Lind (foot), who is headed to the DL. Johnson has batted .248/.402/.471 with 17 homers over 94 games this season for Triple-A Buffalo. He would figure to see plenty of playing time at first base and the DH spot and is worth scooping up in AL-only leagues.
Jul 11 - 10:28 AM

Dan Johnson hit his third spring homer Tuesday in the Blue Jays' 3-2 victory over the Tigers.

Three-quarters of Johnson's hits have been homers, but that's no so far off the norm. In the last four seasons, he has 40 hits in 222 major league at-bats, 12 of them homers. Even though his ability to supply the long ball could be useful off the bench, there won't be room for him on the Blue Jays unless someone gets hurt.
