Indians re-signed INF Argenis Reyes to a minor league contract.
The 29-year-old batted .313/.345/.446 over 91 plate appearances for Triple-A Columbus in 2011 after spending the beginning of the year in independent ball. He's a career .205/.246/.228 hitter across 139 plate appearances and hasn't had a whiff of the majors since 2009. Fri, Jan 6, 2012 01:22:00 PM

Indians signed INF Argenis Reyes to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Columbus.

Reyes, a 28-year-old middle infielder, had been playing independent ball. He hasn't appeared in a big league game since the 2009 season, when he was a member of the Mets, and probably won't climb his way to Cleveland.

Indians acquired 2B Argenis Reyes and C Juan Apodaca from the Red Sox for future cash considerations.

The Red Sox needed to clear roster space at the Triple-A level for the arrival of Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Reyes, 27, is a journeyman infielder with a .205/.246/.228 career batting line over 127 major league at-bats. Apodaca, a 24-year-old catcher, had a .655 OPS in 14 games for Pawtucket.

Mets optioned infielder Argenis Reyes to Triple-A Buffalo.

Reyes will likely be on the Buffalo-New York shuttle for the rest of the season. He had two hits in 17 at-bats for the Mets.

Mets recalled infielder Argenis Reyes from Triple-A Buffalo.

Reyes was demoted by the Mets after Tuesday's game to make room for starter Oliver Perez. He is back to take the roster spot of the injured Fernando Martinez. Reyes has just one hit in 13 at-bats for the Mets this season.

Mets optioned infielder Argenis Reyes to Triple-A Buffalo.

Reyes will return to a .296/.389/.395 batting line at Buffalo, where playing time is more readily available. He had just one hit in 13 at-bats for the Mets this season. His roster spot was needed for Oliver Perez, who will return to the mound Wednesday night.

Mets purchased the contract of infielder Argenis Reyes from Triple-A Buffalo.

Reyes, hitting .296/.389/.395 at Buffalo, won't have fantasy value as a backup middle infielder. He hit just .218 in 110 at-bats with the Mets last season.

Mets signed infielder Argenis Reyes and LHP Tom Martin to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training.

The Mets surprisingly gave Reyes a look at second base last season when Luis Castillo was sidelined, but he predictably struggled offensively and was designated for assignment last month. He profiles as nothing more than a utility man. Martin didn't pitch in the majors last season and at 39 years old faces an uphill battle for a bullpen spot.

Mets non-tendered infielder Argenis Reyes.

The 26-year-old Reyes hit .218/.259/.245 in 110 at-bats for the Mets last season, and nothing in his track record suggests that he was underacheiving. He belongs in Triple-A.

Argenis Reyes started a third straight game on Thursday, but he remained hitless since Aug. 20.

Luis Castillo is supposed to be available to play, but he sat again in favor of a guy with a .225/.269/.255 line in 102 at-bats. It says a lot about what the Mets think of his play.

Mets recalled infielder Argenis Reyes from Triple-A New Orleans.

Reyes hit .250/.281/.283 in 92 at-bats before being sent down last week. He's the team's third option at second base now that Luis Castillo is healthy.

Mets optioned infielder Argenis Reyes to Triple-A New Orleans.

After a fast start, Reyes ended up hitting .250/.281/.283 in 92 at-bats for the Mets. He's never been a very good bet to have a long career as a utilityman, and while the Mets will bring him back in September, it'd be for the best if he doesn't have a significant role.

Argenis Reyes went 0-for-5 as the Mets' No. 2 hitter Thursday against the Padres.

There's just no good reason for Reyes to be hitting second in a major league lineup. He entered the game with a .283 average, but that came with two walks and one extra-base hit in 46 at-bats. He's currently in a 3-for-21 slump, suggesting that he could head back to Triple-A if Luis Castillo is activated this weekend.

Argenis Reyes hit his first career home run and finished with two RBI Friday as the Mets beat the Cardinals.

Reyes finished 2-for-3 with an RBI single and knocked his solo shot in the seventh inning. David Wright also collected an RBI while Carlos Delgado and Jose Reyes finished with two. Argenis Reyes is 10-for-30 since being brought up on July 3, but will probably maintain his role on the bench.

Despite the play looking like it might be a double play ball, Argenis Reyes reached first base on a fielder's choice and Robinson Cancel scored as the Mets went ahead of the Reds 6-5 in the top of the 11th inning on Sunday.

The play should have gotten the Reds out of the inning, but Encarnacion threw the ball into center field after looking Cancel back to third. Carlos Delgado then added a sacrifice fly, and Billy Wagner closed out the game in a 7-5 victory. The Mets should have won the game before extra innings ever began, but Carlos Beltran committed the sin of sins when he was caught stealing third base with one out in the ninth. The next batter singled, but since the Mets were able to pull out the win the play will largely be swept under the rug.
