Mariners optioned 3B Alex Liddi to Triple-A Tacoma; reassigned Cs John Hicks and Ronny Paulino and INF Stefen Romero to minor league camp.
None of the cuts are a surprise. Liddi has posted some big numbers in the minors at times, but he's yet to receive much of a look in Seattle and probably won't unless Kyle Seager gets injured. Mar 15 - 11:35 AM

Mariners recalled INF Alex Liddi from Triple-A Tacoma.

Liddi posted a pedestrian .231 average and .655 OPS across 114 plate appearances earlier this season with the Mariners. The 24-year-old won't get much playing time.

Mariners optioned INF Alex Liddi to Triple-A Tacoma.

Liddi has posted a weak .231 batting average and .655 OPS in 114 plate appearances this season for Seattle. The 23-year-old should be given another crack later this year.

The Mariners are expected to option Alex Liddi to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.

Liddi has really struggled recently, collecting just two hits in his last 27 at-bats while striking out 17 times. The 23-year-old is hitting just .231 with three homers and a .655 OPS over 114 plate appearances this year.

The Tacoma News Tribune suggests Alex Liddi's roster spot could be in jeopardy.

Liddi has struggled against left-handed pitching and is batting just .241 this season. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if Liddi was sent down for Casper Wells, who currently owns a 1.079 OPS in the minors.

Alex Liddi struck out all four times he was up Thursday against the Angels' Dan Haren.

Hitting Liddi second had worked out for manager Eric Wedge until now. It's certainly not Liddi's long-term spot: he's pretty much an all-or-nothing guy who figures to strike out about five times as often as he walks.

Alex Liddi went 2-for-3 and hit a grand slam against the Rangers on Wednesday.

Liddi is always going to strike out a ton, putting his future as a regular in doubt, but he's hitting a respectable .273 for the Mariners at the moment. He might be in line for regular playing time until he fades.

Alex Liddi is starting in left field for the Mariners on Thursday afternoon against the Indians.

"You've got to break him in at some point in time," Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Thursday morning. "No time like the present." Liddi probably won't ever be a great defensive outfielder, but he hit 30 home runs last year at the Triple-A level and could gain real fantasy value if the M's begin finding him regular playing time.

Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Friday that Alex Liddi may soon get a look in the outfield.

Liddi is hitting .333 (11-for-33) this season and has hit safely in each of his last six games, so Mariners' manager Eric Wedge wants to find a way to get him into the lineup. "At some point in time, we'll have him out there in left field," said Wedge. "He goes all over the place. First, second, short, third and he's been in the outfield, too." Liddi has experience at both corner infield positions and even played some shortstop in the minors, but he has never played the outfield in a professional game. The 23-year-old has been tracking balls and taking some flies during batting practice recently, so he could get his first look soon.

Alex Liddi had three hits, including his first home run of the season, in the Mariners 7-4 victory over the Tigers on Tuesday.

Liddi finished the night 3-for-5 with the aforementioned solo home run off of Colin Balester. He also stole his first base of the season, on the back-end of a double steal with Ichiro Suzuki. He's hitting an impressive .368 on the season, and could see more starts at first base while Justin Smoak gets himself right physically.

Alex Liddi went 1-for-3 with an RBI double in Sunday's loss to the White Sox.

Liddi got a spot-start at first base in place of a resting Justin Smoak. It's just the fourth time the power-hitting prospect has been in the lineup this season. Liddi is merely someone to monitor, even for AL-only specialists.

Alex Liddi had another big day in Friday's win over the Brewers, going 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored.

Liddi is now batting .435 in his bid to earn a spot on the Mariners' Opening Day roster. Still just 23 and the owner of a career .277/.344/.465 minor-league triple slash, he'd be worth monitoring in AL-only leagues if he starts the year in the bigs.

Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Tuesday that Alex Liddi will work out at first base for most of the spring.

Liddi has primarily played third base during his professional career, but he has also played 53 games at first base in the minor leagues. The goal this spring is to test his versatility with a potential bench role in mind. The 23-year-old Italian native socked 30 homers with Triple-A Tacoma last season and batted .225 (9-for-40) with three homers and six RBI with the M's as September call-up.

Mariners prospect Alex Liddi was dropped from his Dominican Winter League team on Tuesday.

You can't make this stuff up, people. Liddi, who was recently cut from his Venezuelan Winter League team, was let go after going 0-for-7 with three strikeouts and four errors in just three games with Leones del Escojido. It's not known whether he'll return home for the remainder of the offseason or attempt to latch on elsewhere.

Mariners prospect Alex Liddi has signed on with Leones del Escojido of the Dominican Winter League.

Liddi was dismissed from his first DWL team after going 6-for-44 (.161) with a .519 OPS in his first few weeks with the club. He's now 0-for-7 with Escojido, but the experience should be good for the 23-year-old.
