Jhoulys Chacin allowed two runs on six hits over five innings in Thursday's win over the Red Sox.
It was a typical Chacin start -- bend but don't break, and hope it's good enough. It was Thursday, as the Braves actually provided him with some run support. He's been decent through four starts, compiling a 3.27 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 23/4 K/BB ratio over 22 innings. He'll try to keep it going Tuesday at the Mets. Apr 28 - 11:01 PM

Jhoulys Chacin allowed four runs -- three earned -- on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Mets on Saturday.

The start was the worst of his three thus far, a credit to Chacin considering it wasn't that bad. It did earn him his first loss of the season, raising his ERA to 3.18 in the process. Chacin will continue looking for his first win in an interleague tilt with the Red Sox on Thursday.
Apr 23 - 10:18 PM

Jhoulys Chacin couldn't quite supply a quality start in Sunday's no-decision against the Marlins, allowing three runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Chacin struck out six without walking a batter. He kept the Marlins off the board until the sixth inning, but after allowing three consecutive batters to reach to open the frame (including Dee Gordon, who hit an RBI single), he was relieved of duty. The other two runs on his line came home inherited. Chacin has now put in back-to-back respectable starts, as he blanked the Nationals over six innings last time out. We don't see this run of competency lasting for the entire season and his next outing -- a home start against the Mets -- figures to be a tough one.
Apr 17 - 4:44 PM

Jhoulys Chacin put together a surprising good showing Tuesday against the Nationals, striking out eight over six scoreless innings.

He allowed five hits -- all singles -- and didn't walk anyone. Chacin had thrown only 69 pitches, but the Braves elected to lift him when they had a scoring opportunity in the seventh. It was certainly an unexpected performance for a guy who's made just 15 starts in the majors over the last two seasons. A letdown is almost surely coming this weekend in Miami.
Apr 12 - 10:08 PM

Braves purchased the contract of RHP Jhoulys Chacin from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Chacin will join the Braves' rotation and start Tuesday night against the Nationals. The former Rockie could hold down a spot for a little while, but he's not a fantasy option outside of NL-only formats.
Apr 12 - 2:57 PM

The Braves are expected to recall Jhoulys Chacin from Triple-A Gwinnett in time to start Tuesday against the Nationals.

This was always the plan as the Braves opted to have Chacin make his first start in the minors so he wouldn't have a long layoff after spring training. He'll be Atlanta's No. 5 starter this year. The Braves have been carrying eight relievers and will send one down to Gwinnett when Chacin is added to the roster.
Apr 7 - 8:35 PM

Braves re-assigned RHP Jhoulys Chacin to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Chacin will serve as the Braves fifth starter this season, but he'll take his first turn at the minor league level until the Braves require a fifth starter. Williams Perez will work as the fourth starter in the Opening Day rotation.
Apr 2 - 1:40 PM

Jhoulys Chacin yielded one run and three hits in 4 2/3 innings as the Braves and a Rays split-squad played to a 2-2 tie on Friday.

Chacin finishes the spring with a 3.00 ERA, and he's poised to enter the year as the Braves' fourth starter. He's a reserve pick at best in NL-only leagues.
Apr 1 - 4:17 PM

Jhoulys Chacin gave up five runs -- two earned -- and 10 hits in five innings Sunday in a loss to the Nationals.

This isn't the outing Chacin needed with a rotation spot on the line. He still has a 3.31 ERA this spring, but two of his last three starts have been pretty bad. If the Braves choose to let Chacin go, it'd probably result in Mike Foltyniewicz and Williams Perez occupying the last two spots in their rotation. Maybe they'd be able to do better with someone on waivers.
Mar 27 - 4:04 PM

Jhoulys Chacin rebounded from a poor outing to limit a Pirates split-squad to one run in 3 1/3 innings on Monday.

It's still not ideal; Chacin should have completed four or maybe five innings today. Still, he was effective in striking out five and walked two. The lone run against him came, oddly enough, on a Francisco Liriano homer. Chacin appears likely to open the season in Atlanta's rotation.
Mar 21 - 5:29 PM

Jhoulys Chacin surrendered three runs and eight hits in three innings Wednesday against the Cardinals.

It's even worse than it looks. Two of Chacin's nine outs came on caught stealings. Two others came on bunts from the pitcher and Yadier Molina, who has been ordered not to swing the bat as he returns from a thumb injury. So, in reality, Chacin retired just five of the 15 batters trying to reach against him (and the last of those was the pitcher again). Chacin has a wide-open path to a spot in Atlanta's rotation, but he hurt his cause today.
Mar 16 - 4:44 PM

Jhoulys Chacin worked three scoreless innings Friday against the Cardinals.

Chacin has yet to allow a run in five innings. He's definitely making a stronger impression that Kyle Kendrick in the battle for a rotation spot.
Mar 11 - 4:12 PM

Jhoulys Chacin pitched a pair of perfect innings in relief Sunday against the Mets.

Chacin outpitched Kyle Kendrick, who started and allowed three runs -- two earned -- in two innings. Those two veterans are battling some younger pitchers for the two openings in Atlanta's rotation.
Mar 6 - 5:34 PM

Braves signed RHP Jhoulys Chacin to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Chacin pitched most of 2015 in the minors but fared well when the D'Backs gave him a shot, posting a 3.38 ERA over 26 2/3 innings. He's not a good bet to make the Braves' Opening Day rotation, but they don't have much depth so there's a good chance he'll get a chance at some point.

Jhoulys Chacin has elected free agency.

He refused an outright assignment by the Diamondbacks. Chacin pitched well in his brief time with the D'Backs, posting a 3.38 ERA across 26 2/3 frames. However, he might have to settle for a minor league deal again.
