Jhoulys Chacin said Saturday that his arm "feels better than it has in a year and a half."

Chacin was limited to just 11 starts last season due to rotator cuff issues and was horrible when on the mound, producing a 5.40 ERA. However, the righty feels healthy now after skipping his usual stint in winter ball, instead focusing on rehabbing in Arizona. "We made a commitment with Jhoulys about a strict plan, and what each week would be," Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich said. "He has stuck to that plan. He's now in a much better spot than he was in 2014. He's ready to go for spring training. I think he understands our sense of urgency. He has a chance to be a solid member of our rotation." Chacin held a career 3.61 ERA prior to last season, which is quite good for a pitcher at Coors Field. That said, the righty has seen his velocity and strikeouts drop in recent years, so even if he stays healthy it's hard to get too excited about him for fantasy purposes.

Rockies and RHP Jhoulys Chacin avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $5.5 million contract.

Chacin made $4.85 million last season and was arbitration-eligible for a final time this winter. The right-hander missed a big chunk of last season with shoulder issues and is a medical red flag heading into 2015.

Rockies activated RHP Jhoulys Chacin from the 60-day disabled list.

Chacin missed the final three months of the season with a strained rotator cuff. He didn't need surgery and is expected to be OK for spring training but remains a bit of a medical red flag.

Jhoulys Chacin (shoulder) threw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

It's the first time he's thrown off a mound since being diagnosed with a strained right rotator cuff back in July. Chacin obviously won't pitch again this season but is feeling good about his chances of being healthy for spring training. "I've been really working for two months, strengthening and really working hard," Chacin said. "I've been pain-free and throwing long-toss every day. Today was a really good day for me -- long-toss, flat ground and off the mound. I'm really happy."

Jhoulys Chacin (shoulder) is 2-3 weeks away from playing catch.

Chacin is recovering slowly but surely from a strained right rotator cuff as he continues strengthening exercises. Given that he's already missed over a month and won't start throwing again for another 2-3 weeks, the Rockies will be happy to get him back at all this season.

Jhoulys Chacin (shoulder) won't need surgery, but will be shut down for 4-6 weeks.

Chacin was diagnosed last week with a strained right rotator cuff and fraying in the front of his labrum. While he'll avoid surgery, he has a long way to go before pitching with the Rockies again.

Rockies transferred RHP Jhoulys Chacin from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Jair Jurrjens. Chacin is dealing with a strained right rotator cuff and fraying in the front of his labrum and is out indefinitely.

An MRI revealed that Jhoulys Chacin has a strained right rotator cuff and fraying in the front of his labrum.

Chacin will receive a second opinion from Dr. Thomas J. Noonan and also get a consultation from Dr. James Andrews before the next course of action is determined. The hope is that he'll only need to do more strengthening exercises, but surgery hasn't been ruled out. Chacin was placed on the disabled list Monday after admitting over the weekend that he's had shoulder strength issues.

Rockies placed RHP Jhoulys Chacin on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.

Chacin acknowledged to reporters Saturday that he's been having issues with arm strength throughout the 2014 season. And it's shown in his stat lines. The 26-year-old hits the disabled list having posted a 1-7 record, 5.40 ERA, and 1.44 WHIP across 11 starts. He missed all of April with a similar shoulder issue.

Jhoulys Chacin admitted after Saturday's start to being concerned with his lack of arm strength so far this season.

Chacin is averaging a career-low 88 mph with his fastball this year and was sitting mostly at 86 mph on Saturday, when he was roughed up for seven earned runs in 5 2/3 innings by the Brewers. "I really don't know what's wrong with my arm. I can't get strong," Chacin said. "Even if I throw extra hard, I can get one (pitch), but then I can't throw the next one hard." Chacin missed the first month of the season with a shoulder issue but insists that he doesn't feel any pain. He'll hope to eventually regain some pep to his fastball, but fantasy owners should obviously steer clear of him for now.

Jhoulys Chacin fell to 1-7 after yielding seven earned runs in 5 2/3 innings Saturday to the Brewers.

Chacin also got roughed up Monday by the Cardinals and now holds an ugly 5.40 ERA on the season. Milwaukee got to him for 11 hits on Saturday -- including two doubles, a triple and a Carlos Gomez home run.

Jhoulys Chacin dropped to 1-6 after giving up five runs in six innings Monday against the Cardinals.

Chacin was coming off three straight quality starts, but only one of those (7 scoreless against the Braves on June 12) was all that strong of an outing. His velocity isn't what it was, and it doesn't look like he's going to return to being the guy who was among the NL's 10 best pitchers last year.

Jhoulys Chacin yielded three runs and seven hits in six innings Tuesday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Chacin was coming off his best start of the season, blanking the Braves for seven innings on Thursday. This time around, he struck out five, walked three and gave up a pair of homers (to Hanley Ramirez and Matt Kemp). Chacin entered the game 0-2 with a 5.32 ERA in four road starts. With Coors Field as the alternative, you can see why it's a little hard to trust Chacin (4.53 ERA) in fantasy right now. The right-hander hosts St. Louis on Monday.

Jhoulys Chacin finally won for the first time this season by blanking the Braves for seven innings on Thursday.

Chacin had been 0-4 with a 5.35 ERA in seven starts since returning from a shoulder injury. Today's game was easily the most run support he's gotten (eight runs while he was in the game, 10 overall), on the one occasion that he didn't really need it. Chacin is still merely a fringe play in NL-only leagues right now.
