Jhoulys Chacin pitched well in a no decision on Tuesday, giving up one run over seven innings on two hits against the Diamondbacks.
Chacin walked only two, and he struck out seven. There have been a few bumps in the road for the right-hander in his first season with the Brewers, but for the most part, the right-hander has pitched effectively, and the quality start on Tuesday lowers his season ERA to 3.63 on the 2018 campaign. Chacin will look to build on this strong outing when he takes on the Diamondbacks again on Monday. May 16 - 12:25 AM

Date:

Jhoulys Chacin limited the Rockies to two runs over 5 1/3 innings in a win Thursday.

Chacin gave up four hits and walked two in the outing, striking out five. He's now rattled off three wins in his last three decisions and still hasn't lost since April 4. The right-hander will carry a 4.00 ERA and 1.44 WHIP into Tuesday's matchup with the Diamondbacks.
May 11 - 12:39 AM

Jhoulys Chacin surrendered one run on three hits over six innings while taking a no-decision in Saturday's win over the Pirates.

Chacin struck out four and walked two in the outing. Despite his fine work, he was unable to come away with a decision, as the Starling Marte sacrifice fly he allowed in the sixth inning tied the score at 1-1. The Brewers would ultimately win the game on a go-ahead two-run double by Ryan Braun in the eighth inning. Up next on the docket for Chacin, a road dance with the Rockies. He'll carry a 4.08 ERA and 1.49 WHIP into that contest.
May 5 - 11:36 PM

Jhoulys Chacin gave up four runs in 4 1/3 innings Monday in a no-decision against the Reds.

Chacin struck out one and walked three tonight. He has an adequate 4.54 ERA after seven starts, but his 20/17 K/BB ratio in 33 2/3 innings wouldn't seem to bode well at all.
Apr 30 - 10:33 PM

Jhoulys Chacin rattled off six shutout innings during an 8-0 victory over the Marlins on Friday.

He scattered four singles and three walks while notching five strikeouts in the gem outing. It was his first win in a Brewers uniform. He will take a 4.18 ERA and 1.73 WHIP into a much tougher start against the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Thursday.
Apr 21 - 1:41 AM

Jhoulys Chacin allowed one run in just four innings against the Mets on Sunday in a no-decision.

Chacin was able to strike out four while allowing just the one run, but he also allowed five hits and walked three in a start the Brewers were hoping he could go deep. He couldn't. The good news is it's a much better effort for the 30-year-old starter than we've seen for the most part this year. He'll look to have similar results -- but a high inning count -- against the Marlins on Friday.
Apr 15 - 4:49 PM

Jhoulys Chacin allowed three runs on five hits and three walks over 4 2/3 innings Monday in a no-decision against the Cardinals.

Milwaukee managed to pull out a victory in 10 innings, taking advantage of a rusty Greg Holland, who walked in the go-ahead run. Chacin has a rough 6.59 ERA, 1.90 WHIP, and 7/7 K/BB ratio through his first three starts (13 2/3 innings) with the Brewers. He'll face the Mets on the road next.
Apr 9 - 10:56 PM

Jhoulys Chacin was hit hard in a losing effort against the Cardinals on Wednesday, giving up six runs (three earned) on seven hits across 5 2/3 innings.

On the plus side, Chacin managed to rack up five strikeouts while walking two on the evening. The Cardinals got to him early and often in this one, using a constant parade of baserunners to bury the Brewers' right-hander. He'll bring an unsightly 7.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP into a rematch against these Cardinals in St. Louis on Monday.
Apr 4 - 10:32 PM

Jhoulys Chacin allowed four earned runs, seven hits and two walks in just 3 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Padres on Friday.

It wasn't a good start to the 2018 season for Chacin, as he ended up throwing just 41 of his 69 pitches for strikes. He served up homers to Cory Spangenberg and Austin Hedges while also hitting a batter. Chacin proved that spring stats can often be misleading, as we've seen his movie before. He is a back-end fantasy rotation guy in most formats. He'll look for better results in his home debut Thursday against the Cubs.
Mar 31 - 3:25 AM

Jhoulys Chacin surrendered two runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings in Saturday's Cactus League win over the A's.

Chacin struck out two without walking a batter in what was a serviceable -- if unspectacular -- outing. Both runs on his line scored in the bottom of the fourth inning. He's been largely brilliant in his spring training work through five starts, posting a 1.84 ERA across 14 2/3 innings. That ERA mark had been sitting at a cool 0.83 prior to his being loosened up a little on Saturday. While he's been sharp as a whetted knife this spring, Chacin figures to mostly hold fantasy value as a filler starter outside of deeper formats for the coming campaign. He pitched to a 3.89 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over the course of 180 1/3 frames with the Padres last season.
Mar 24 - 6:18 PM

Jhoulys Chacin pitched well in Wednesday's victory over the White Sox allowing three unearned runs on four hits over his 4 2/3 innings.

The right-hander racked up three strikeouts on the afternoon while walking just one. He's the owner of a minuscule 0.83 ERA in Cactus League action and locked into a spot in the team's Opening Day rotation after inking a two-year, $15.5 million deal over the winter.
Mar 14 - 8:38 PM

Jhoulys Chacin struggled against the Indians on Sunday, giving up three runs and two walks in 2 1/3 innings in the Cactus League.

Only one of those runs was earned, a solo homer by the red-hot Jason Kipnis in the first inning. Signed a two-year, $15.5 million contract in December, the 31-year-old right-hander is expected to pitch in the middle of the Milwaukee rotation in the 2018 season. The lack of control will never inspire, but he might miss enough bats and pick up enough wins to be a fantasy contributor in 2018.
Mar 4 - 4:36 PM

Jhoulys Chacin gave up a pair of hits over two scoreless innings Wednesday in the Brewers’ Cactus League tie with San Francisco.

Chacin survived a two-hit first inning thanks to a pair of base-running mistakes by Steven Duggar and Brandon Crawford, who were both caught stealing. The right-hander logged three strikeouts before exiting and has yet to allow a run in three innings this spring. The Brewers are Chacin’s sixth team in the last five seasons.
Feb 28 - 7:33 PM

Brewers signed RHP Jhoulys Chacin to a two-year, $15.5 million contract.

The deal was agreed upon Wednesday and finalized Thursday. Chacin posted a cool 3.89 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 180 1/3 innings this past season with the Padres, though his numbers at Petco Park were demonstrably better than his numbers everywhere else and he'll likely struggle to replicate his 2017 success with the move to Milwaukee's far more power-friendly home stadium. The 29-year-old right-hander is not a strong fantasy bet for 2018.
Thu, Dec 21, 2017 12:34:00 PM

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Brewers are close to an agreement with free agent right-hander Jhoulys Chacin.

Chacin posted good overall numbers with the Padres in 2017, but his home-road splits don't paint a pretty picture for what the Brewers might be getting here. The 29-year-old right-hander had a 1.79 ERA in 16 starts at Petco Park and a 6.53 ERA in 16 starts everywhere else. Milwaukee's Miller Park is not so kind on pitchers. Jerry Crasnick of ESPN says Chacin's deal with the Brewers will be for two years and carry a total guarantee of around $16 million.
