Jhoulys Chacin hurled 5 2/3 shutout innings Sunday in the Angels' 2-0 win over the Yankees.
Chacin entered the game with a brutal 6.10 ERA and 1.60 WHIP, but the Yankees couldn't get anything going against him. He struck out four and scattered a walk and six hits over his 5 2/3 frames. Chacin's season ERA is now down to 5.61. How exciting. Aug 21 - 6:29 PM

Jhoulys Chacin failed to impress in Tuesday's no-decision against the Mariners, surrendering four runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Chacin managed just two strikeouts on the evening. The M's burned him in dribs and drabs, with an infield RBI single by Ketel Marte and a two-run single by Seth Smith in the second inning (plus an RBI single by Kyle Seager in the fifth) spelling the damage. In 76 2/3 innings since coming over from the Braves via trade, Chacin has pitched to a tough 6.10 ERA and 1.60 WHIP. A home start against the Yankees shows next on his schedule, assuming he remains in the rotation.
Aug 17 - 1:28 AM

Jhoulys Chacin was pounded by the Indians on Thursday, allowing six hits and seven runs over 1 1/3 innings before being removed.

Chacin, ironically enough, was inserted back into the rotation after Tim Lincecum was designated for assignment due to poor performance. Chacin didn't offer much hope for better days, yielding five runs in the first inning and two more before exiting in the second. He had been pitching fairly well in long relief prior to Thursday's disaster, and with few better options the Angels will likely stick with the 28-year-old in hopes he can right the ship. Chacin will carry a 5.84 ERA and 1.53 WHIP into Tuesday's start against the Mariners.
Aug 11 - 11:48 PM

Jhoulys Chacin will start for the Angels on Thursday in Cleveland.

He'll take over for Tim Lincecum, who has been sent to Triple-A Salt Lake. Chacin holds a 5.27 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 15 starts and eight relief appearances this season with the Angels. Do not play him versus Cleveland.
Aug 9 - 6:07 PM

Jhoulys Chacin was tagged for five runs on 12 hits and two walks over 4 2/3 innings in Friday’s loss to the Red Sox.

Chacin now owns a 9.55 ERA over his last five starts. With Nick Tropeano stashed away in Triple-A, he might not be long for a rotation spot at this point. Assuming he gets another start, he’ll face the Rays next week.
Jul 2 - 12:57 AM

Jhoulys Chacin failed to strike out a batter while walking four, leading to four runs in 4 2/3 innings in a loss on Saturday.

His record fell to 3-6. Chacin's 5.64 ERA this year is worse than it ever was when he was pitching for the Rockies in Coors Field. Given that his velocity is up this year and his rate stats are close to his career averages, it is probable that Chacin will manifest some improvement as the season progresses. But even then he will remain on the fringe of being rosterable in mixed leagues.
Jun 26 - 2:56 AM

Jhoulys Chacin was tagged for six runs -- five earned -- in two-plus innings by the Astros on Monday.

Chacin walked five and hit a batter, which simply isn't going to fly for him with the stuff he brings to the mound these days. He can hold his own when he's on, but there's no fantasy value to be had here.
Jun 21 - 12:20 AM

Jhoulys Chacin recorded an uneventful outing in Tuesday's win over the Twins, yielding three runs on seven hits over five-plus innings.

Chacin struck out two and walked one on the evening. He surrendered solitary runs in the second, third and fifth innings -- with Joe Mauer picking up an RBI triple to score that fifth-inning run. The 28-year-old right-hander isn't horrendous by any stretch of the imagination, but offers little in the way of fantasy upside. Since joining the Angels in a trade, he holds a 4.54 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 26/14 K/BB ratio over seven starts (41 2/3 innings). A road date with the Astros shows next on his schedule.
Jun 15 - 2:21 AM

Jhoulys Chacin struggled in a losing effort against the Yankees on Thursday, giving up five runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Chacin walked three and struck out three in the ballgame. He kept the Yankees' offense completely at bay through the first four innings, but the wheels completely fell off in the fifth where the Bombers strung together a pair of walks, four hits and a sacrifice fly to push five runs across. Aside from one completely dominant start against the Tigers, Chacin has struggled in his transition to the American League. He'll look to improve upon his 4.83 ERA and 1.31 WHIP when he does battle against the Twins on Tuesday.
Jun 9 - 10:12 PM

Jhoulys Chacin will start for the Angels on Saturday against the Pirates.

Chacin had been scheduled to pitch on Sunday, but he'll move up a day earlier with Nick Tropeano scratched. Chacin was outstanding his last time out, striking out 10 in a complete game victory against the Tigers.
Jun 3 - 11:45 PM

Jhoulys Chacin struck out 10 in his third career complete game as the Angels beat the Tigers 5-1 on Monday.

That as many strikeouts as he had in his first three starts for the Angels combined. Chacin allowed a total of four hits and walked one in what was his best start since he was let go by the Rockies prior to last season. While he's done solid work for the Braves and now the Halos, he's still a poor investment in fantasy leagues.
May 31 - 12:14 AM

Jhoulys Chacin allowed three runs over six innings Tuesday in a loss to the Rangers.

Chacin didn't pitch poorly, aside from a two-run home run by Nomar Mazara, but his teammates provided him with just one run of support on the evening. The loss was his first in three starts since a trade to the Angels earlier this month. Between the Braves and Angels, Chacin is now 1-3 with a 5.11 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in eight starts. His task doesn't get any easier Monday against the Tigers.
May 24 - 11:51 PM

Jhoulys Chacin wasn't particularly effective in Thursday's no-decision against the Dodgers, yielding four runs on six hits over 4 1/3 innings.

No inspiration to be found here. Chacin struck out two and walked three on the evening. The first run of the evening scored when the 28-year-old right-hander uncorked a wild pitch to allow Chase Utley to score in the first inning. That set the tone well enough. This was Chacin's second start with the Angels since coming over from the Braves in a trade. He tossed seven inning of two-run ball against the Mariners in his first start. In a larger sample size with the Braves, he held an unfortunate 5.40 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 27/8 K/BB ratio across 26 2/3 innings. A road start against the Rangers shows next on his schedule.
May 20 - 1:24 AM

Making his first start for the Angels on Saturday, Jhoulys Chacin fired seven innings of two-run ball against the Mariners.

The Braves traded Chacin to the Angels on Wednesday and he responded by posting his best start of the season. Against the Mariners, the 28-year-old right-hander struck out four without walking a batter. Only a two-run homer by Adam Lind in the second marred the happy debut. In five starts (26 2/3 innings) with the Braves, Chacin held an ugly 5.40 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 27/8 K/BB ratio. He owned a far less unsightly 3.27 ERA prior to a shellacking by the Mets in his final start with Atlanta. Those in deeper AL-only formats should view Chacin as a potential back-of-the-rotation arm. His mixed-league relevance is less defined. A home start against the Dodgers shows next on his newly minted schedule.
May 15 - 12:58 AM

Angels acquired RHP Jhoulys Chacin from the Braves for LHP Adam McCreery.

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution was first to report news of the move. Anaheim will hope that Chacin can provide a much-needed boost to its starting rotation, which has registered a 4.67 ERA in 171 2/3 innings to date. The right-hander had pretty good peripherals in Atlanta. McCreery was a 22nd-round pick in 2014 out of Azusa Pacific University. He is a non-prospect.
