Jhoulys Chacin lasted just two-thirds of an inning and gave up seven runs Tuesday against the Mets.
Chacin gave up hits to eight of the 10 batters he faced. He had a 3.28 ERA in his previous eight starts, so he's not going anywhere. Still, this makes three times this season in which he's given up at least seven runs. May 23 - 10:41 PM

Jhoulys Chacin pitched seven innings of one-run ball and struck out eight Wednesday against the Brewers.

Chacin gave up nine runs on Opening Day. Since then, he's sporting a 3.28 ERA in eight starts. He has no mixed-league value while pitching for the Padres, but a contender might want him if he keeps this up.
May 18 - 1:45 AM

Jhoulys Chacin notched the win after giving up three runs over 6 1/3 innings on Friday against the White Sox.

Leury Garcia did all of the damage against him, slugging a two-run homer in the third inning and a solo blast in the seventh. Chacin struck out five and walked one in the victory and now stands at 4-3 with a 5.12 ERA through eight starts. While he notched the win at Guaranteed Rate Field on Friday, Chacin is mostly worth using as a matchup play at home in deeper fantasy leagues.
May 13 - 12:52 AM

Jhoulys Chacin allowed three runs, five hits and two walks while recording six strikeouts over five innings in a win Saturday at San Francisco.

The Padres provided more than enough offense for Chacin, who threw just 53 of his 87 pitches for strikes. Most nights Chacin will not receive this kind of support and the results from the pitcher will be rather subpar from a fantasy perspective. The good news is he did not show any ill effects from the left foot injury which he suffered last time out against the Diamondbacks.
Apr 30 - 1:27 AM

X-rays turned up negative on Jhoulys Chacin's left foot.

Chacin underwent tests after fouling a ball off the foot on Monday. He's expected to take his next turn in the Padres' rotation and will try to bounce back from Monday night's seven-run drubbing versus the Diamondbacks.
Apr 26 - 1:26 AM

Jhoulys Chacin has been sent for X-rays of his left foot.

Chacin fouled a ball off the foot on Monday night against the Diamondbacks and showed up Tuesday with some swelling. The right-hander yielded seven earned runs over six innings in the loss to Arizona.
Apr 25 - 8:35 PM

Jhoulys Chacin was tagged for seven runs in six innings by the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Taking one for the team, Chavez was sent back out for the sixth even after giving up a grand slam in the fifth that made the score 6-0 Diamondbacks. By start this year, Chacin has allowed nine, zero, four, zero and now seven runs. He's "due" for one of his good starts Sunday against the Giants, though that's mostly because the Giants aren't hitting.
Apr 25 - 2:08 AM

Jhoulys Chacin shut out the Diamondbacks for eight innings to earn a victory Wednesday.

Chacin allowed just three hits in improving to 2-2. He's gone without allowing a run twice in four starts, yet he's given up 13 runs his other two times out. That's why he's only an option in NL-only leagues. He's set to face Arizona again next time out.
Apr 20 - 1:49 AM

Jhoulys Chacin took the loss Friday after giving up three runs over five innings against the Braves.

The go-ahead run scored on an infield single from opposing pitcher Julio Teheran. Chacin pitched around trouble throughout, allowing eight hits while walking four batters. The 29-year-old has an ugly 7.80 ERA over his first three starts, though it’s still heavily weighed by his Opening Day start against the Dodgers. He’ll look to keep improving that number next time out against the Diamondbacks at home in his next outing.
Apr 14 - 11:57 PM

Jhoulys Chacin pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings as the Padres edged the Giants 2-1 on Saturday.

The right-hander allowed three hits and a walk while striking out five, inducing 12 ground ball outs in the process. It was a far cry from his first start in which Chacin allowed nine runs in 3 1/3 innings against the Dodgers. The 29-year-old is capable of outings like Saturday's but they'll probably be the exception, not the rule. Chacin will next take on one of his former teams, the Braves, on Friday.
Apr 8 - 11:42 PM

Jhoulys Chacin was hammered for nine earned runs over 3 1/3 innings Monday in the Padres' loss to the Dodgers.

That's about what we were expecting when the Padres laughably named Chacin their Opening Day starter in late March. The right-hander posted a 7.30 ERA this spring in the Cactus League and his regular-season ERA sits at 24.30 through one game. Chacin gave up eight hits, including two home runs, and he also hit a batter and walked two others. His next start will come against the Giants at home.
Apr 3 - 7:10 PM

Jhoulys Chacin imploded Wednesday in the Padres’ Cactus League tie with the White Sox, scattering eight hits, six runs and two walks over three miserable innings.

He added a pair of strikeouts for good measure. This is your Opening Day starter, Padres fans. Chacin took it on the chin Wednesday, allowing four straight hits to open his outing. Two of them went for home runs including a three-run bomb by cleanup hitter Jose Abreu. Chacin got beat for another homer in the third, this time on a two-run blast from Nicky Delmonico. Wednesday’s meltdown brought Chacin’s spring ERA from 3.86 to 7.30. It’s going to be a long year for the rebuilding Padres.
Mar 29 - 7:13 PM

Jhoulys Chacin will start Opening Day for the Padres.

Well, that is something. The Padres could have one of the worst rotations we've seen in a long time, so Chacin is the best option on the board. He'll be followed by Clayton Richard and Jered Weaver. The Padres have yet to make a final decision beyond that, but we will likely see plenty of names shuffled in and out all year.
Mar 28 - 12:45 PM

Jhoulys Chacin allowed two runs (one earned) over 4 1/3 innings Friday against the Rangers.

Both runs scored in his final inning of work. Chacin gave up four hits and walked four while striking out six batters, so he was at 91 pitches when he got pulled. After finishing strong with the Angels last season, Chacin increasingly looks like the frontrunner to start Opening Day for the Padres. It’s going to be a long year in San Diego.
Mar 24 - 7:17 PM

Padres manager Andy Green listed Jhoulys Chacin, Jered Weaver and Clayton Richard as candidates to start on Opening Day.

The skipper also mentioned that others could work their way into the mix. Yes, the Padres rotation is going to be bad enough that they will pick one of the aforementioned trio to square off against Clayton Kershaw on April 3 at Dodger Stadium. The Padres could be historically bad in 2017.
