Diamondbacks signed RHP Jhoulys Chacin to a minor league contract.
Chacin found work quickly after opting out of his minor league contract with the Indians on Thursday. The 27-year-old hurler compiled a 3.21 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 25/15 K/BB ratio over 42 innings with Triple-A Columbus. He can opt out of his deal with the Diamondbacks if he isn't on the big league roster before July 5. Jun 19 - 11:45 PM

Indians released RHP Jhoulys Chacin.

Chacin exercised the opt-out in his minor league contract with Cleveland and will now search for a better opportunity with a new organization. The 27-year-old right-hander had registered a promising 3.21 ERA and 1.286 WHIP across 42 innings at Triple-A Columbus.

Indians signed RHP Jhoulys Chacin to a minor league contract.

Chacin was let go by the Rockies toward the end of spring training, but we figured it wouldn't be long before he would find a new home. The 27-year-old right-hander was limited to just 63 1/3 innings last season due to a rotator cuff injury, so the Indians can't count on much from him, but he's a worthy flier at these terms.

Chris Cotillo of reports that six teams "have called with interest" in Jhoulys Chacin.

Cotillo adds that Chacin is expected to sign in the "near future." Chacin was terrible last season while battling shoulder issues and bad again this spring, which led to the Rockies releasing him on Sunday. Still, he's flashed plenty of promise in the past and is just 27, so he's worth a gamble for some team in need of rotation depth.

Rockies released RHP Jhoulys Chacin.

It comes as a big surprise, as the 27-year-old right-hander had been expected to open the season as the second starter in the Rockies' rotation behind Jorge De La Rosa. Chacin clearly isn't at full strength, though, following the rotator cuff injury that ended his 2014 season prematurely. He posted a troublesome 1-7 record and 5.40 ERA over 63 1/3 innings in 2014 and wasn't much better in Cactus League play, with a 6.52 ERA and 2.07 WHIP in 9 2/3 frames. He'll attempt to latch on elsewhere.
Mar 22 - 4:09 PM

Jhoulys Chacin struggled in Saturday's start against the Dodgers, yielding four runs over three innings.

Chacin allowed seven hits -- including a home run to Andre Ethier -- while walking two and striking out two. He's now given up seven runs in 9 2/3 innings this spring. The right-hander, returning from a rotator cuff injury which shortened his 2014 season, will slot behind the currently-injured Jorge De La Rosa in the rotation.
Mar 21 - 7:10 PM

Jhoulys Chacin surrendered two runs on two hits and a walk over 1 2/3 innings versus the Diamondbacks on Thursday.

The right-hander struck out one in the effort. Chacin is looking for a bounce-back 2015 season after being limited to just 11 starts last year due to rotator cuff issues. He reported to camp feeling totally healthy.
Mar 5 - 7:25 PM

Jhoulys Chacin said Saturday that his arm "feels better than it has in a year and a half."

Chacin was limited to just 11 starts last season due to rotator cuff issues and was horrible when on the mound, producing a 5.40 ERA. However, the righty feels healthy now after skipping his usual stint in winter ball, instead focusing on rehabbing in Arizona. "We made a commitment with Jhoulys about a strict plan, and what each week would be," Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich said. "He has stuck to that plan. He's now in a much better spot than he was in 2014. He's ready to go for spring training. I think he understands our sense of urgency. He has a chance to be a solid member of our rotation." Chacin held a career 3.61 ERA prior to last season, which is quite good for a pitcher at Coors Field. That said, the righty has seen his velocity and strikeouts drop in recent years, so even if he stays healthy it's hard to get too excited about him for fantasy purposes.

Rockies and RHP Jhoulys Chacin avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $5.5 million contract.

Chacin made $4.85 million last season and was arbitration-eligible for a final time this winter. The right-hander missed a big chunk of last season with shoulder issues and is a medical red flag heading into 2015.

Rockies activated RHP Jhoulys Chacin from the 60-day disabled list.

Chacin missed the final three months of the season with a strained rotator cuff. He didn't need surgery and is expected to be OK for spring training but remains a bit of a medical red flag.

Jhoulys Chacin (shoulder) threw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

It's the first time he's thrown off a mound since being diagnosed with a strained right rotator cuff back in July. Chacin obviously won't pitch again this season but is feeling good about his chances of being healthy for spring training. "I've been really working for two months, strengthening and really working hard," Chacin said. "I've been pain-free and throwing long-toss every day. Today was a really good day for me -- long-toss, flat ground and off the mound. I'm really happy."

Jhoulys Chacin (shoulder) is 2-3 weeks away from playing catch.

Chacin is recovering slowly but surely from a strained right rotator cuff as he continues strengthening exercises. Given that he's already missed over a month and won't start throwing again for another 2-3 weeks, the Rockies will be happy to get him back at all this season.

Jhoulys Chacin (shoulder) won't need surgery, but will be shut down for 4-6 weeks.

Chacin was diagnosed last week with a strained right rotator cuff and fraying in the front of his labrum. While he'll avoid surgery, he has a long way to go before pitching with the Rockies again.

Rockies transferred RHP Jhoulys Chacin from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Jair Jurrjens. Chacin is dealing with a strained right rotator cuff and fraying in the front of his labrum and is out indefinitely.

An MRI revealed that Jhoulys Chacin has a strained right rotator cuff and fraying in the front of his labrum.

Chacin will receive a second opinion from Dr. Thomas J. Noonan and also get a consultation from Dr. James Andrews before the next course of action is determined. The hope is that he'll only need to do more strengthening exercises, but surgery hasn't been ruled out. Chacin was placed on the disabled list Monday after admitting over the weekend that he's had shoulder strength issues.
