Dodgers sent 1B John Lindsey outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Lindsey successfully cleared waivers after being designated for assignment. The 34-year-old got his first taste of the big leagues last September after 16 years in the minors and will hang around for another chance this season.

Dodgers designated 1B John Lindsey for assignment.

The Dodgers had a couple non-roster players make the Opening Day roster, so Lindsey was cleared off the 40-man roster. The 34-year-old became a fan favorite when he made his major league debut last September and has a pretty good chance to clear waivers.

Dodgers optioned 1B John Lindsey, RHP Javy Guerra, OFs Trayvon Robinson and Jamie Hoffman to minor league camp.

Lindsey became an immediate fan favorite after making his major league debut last September. The 34-year-old was limited a bit by a calf injury this spring, but there's a chance he could make his way back later in the year. Left-hander Wilkin De La Rosa, shortstop Dee Gordon and catcher Damaso Espino were also reassigned to minor league camp.

John Lindsey underwent surgery on his left hand Wednesday.

Lindsey will be in a cast over the next four weeks but should be fine by the start of spring training. The 33-year-old got his first taste of the big leagues this season after 16 straight years in the minors and will fight for a backup infield job next spring. He was 1-for-12 (.083) in 2010.

Dodgers' 33-year-old rookie John Lindsey will have hand surgery on Wednesday.

This is a little bit of a reversal after it seemed he wouldn't need surgery, but Lindsey did break a bone in his hand when he was hit by a pitch Saturday and it's best that he gets healthy. It's always a fun story when a minor league journeyman finally makes it to the major leagues, but those kinds of players don't make for great fantasy stars.

John Lindsey has been shut down for the season because of a broken left hand that he suffered in Saturday's loss to the Diamondbacks.

Lindsey will be examined by a hand specialist on Sunday to determine whether he will require surgery. The 33-year-old rookie turned in a .083/.154/.083 batting line over 12 big-league at-bats this season.

Dodgers manager Joe Torre said that John Lindsey will start at first base on Saturday.

It will be the 33-year-old's first start in the big leagues. And a well-deserved one, at that. Lindsey was announced as a pinch-hitter in last night's game against the Padres, but was switched out for Andre Ethier once Luke Gregerson relieved Joe Thatcher. He's waited long enough for his first major league at-bat, so a couple more days probably won't hurt.

Dodgers purchased the contract of 1B John Lindsey from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Lindsey has spent 16 years in the minors without getting a taste of the majors. That all changes today. The 33-year-old earned his first call-up by leading the PCL with .356 batting average and .663 slugging percentage to go along with 25 home runs and 97 RBI.
