Red Sox signed LHP Jesse Carlson to a minor league contract.
It's actually a split contract, and the Sox will give him a spring training invite. Carlson missed most of 2010 and sat out the entire 2011 season while recovering from rotator cuff surgery. He hasn't been effective since 2008, but perhaps he can rebound in Boston if his shoulder is finally sound. Sun, Dec 11, 2011 11:09:00 AM

According to the Berlin Patch, the Red Sox have signed left-hander Jesse Carlson to a split contract with a spring training invite.

The Berlin Patch was informed of the signing by Jesse's brother Cory. Carlson, who turns 31 later this month, underwent surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in May and didn't throw a pitch in the majors this season. The southpaw was removed from the Jays' 40-man roster in November. The Red Sox have yet to confirm the signing, but Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com reported earlier this week that the two sides were close to an agreement.

Blue Jays sent LHP Jesse Carlson outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Carlson underwent surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in May and didn't throw a pitch in the majors this season. He was an obvious non-tender candidate this winter, so the Blue Jays went ahead and removed him from the 40-man roster early.

Jesse Carlson underwent surgery Thursday to repair a tear in his left rotator cuff.

The procedure was preformed by Dr. James Andrews and deemed successful, but Carlson can pretty much be ruled out for the rest of the 2011 regular season.

Jesse Carlson (shoulder) is scheduled to see Dr. James Andrews.

Carlson has yet to pitch this season due to a left shoulder strain, so this hardly sounds like good news. The 30-year-old left-hander posted a 4.61 ERA and an 8/5 K/BB ratio over 13 2/3 innings with the Jays last season.

Blue Jays placed LHP Jesse Carlson on the 60-day disabled list with a shoulder injury.

Carlson was moved to the 60-day DL to make room for the newly-acquired Jayson Nix on the 40-man roster. The 30-year-old southpaw was limited to just one appearance this spring due to soreness in his left bicep muscle. There's no timetable for him to return to the mound.

Jesse Carlson will be sidelined for at least seven days due to shoulder inflammation.

"The doctor recommended seven to 10 days down after reading the MRI," said Blue Jays manager John Farrell. "That’s seven to 10 days of no-throw. Once we restart his throwing program, he’s going to require some rebuilding just from a volume standpoint." Farrell won't rule out Carlson out as a possibility for Opening Day, but admitted that this is a bit of a setback for the 30-year-old left-hander.

Jesse Carlson has been shut down due to inflammation in his left shoulder.

Carlson was scheduled to get checked out on Monday in order to determine the severity of the injury. "We're going to back him out for a couple of days," said Blue Jays manager John Farrell. "He has some inflammation and some irritation in the shoulder. We'll have more on his exam after it's over and completed." The 30-year-old left-hander gave up two runs and walked two in an inning of work Saturday against the Tigers. His odds of making the bullpen just took another hit.

Jesse Carlson gave up two runs and walked two in his inning against the Tigers on Saturday.

Not counting probable starter Marc Rzepczynski, the Blue Jays have seven potential lefty relievers in camp and five of them worked consecutively today. Carlson pitched first and gave up the two runs before David Purcey, Luis Perez, Wilfredo Ledezma and Mike Hinckley all worked scoreless innings. Those five are likely battling Jo-Jo Reyes and Sean Henn for one spot in the Toronto bullpen. Purcey should be considered the favorite.

Blue Jays recalled LHP Jesse Carlson from Triple-A Las Vegas.

This will be Carlson's first stint with the Blue Jays this year after he was a bullpen staple over the last two years. Carlson went 8-8 with a 3.52 ERA in 142 games over the past two seasons with Toronto.

Blue Jays optioned LHPs Jesse Carlson and David Purcey to Triple-A Las Vegas; reassigned OF Jeremy Reed to minor league camp.

Carlson has been a staple in Toronto's bullpen over the past two seasons, but a knee injury has limited his work this spring. The cuts of Carlson and Purcey leaves Merkin Valdez and Jeremy Accardo likely competing for the final spot out of the bullpen. With the cut of Reed, non-roster invitee Mike McCoy has all but clinched a spot on the Opening Day roster.

Jesse Carlson (knee) allowed an unearned run on two hits in one inning of relief against the Tigers on Monday afternoon.

Sidelined by a sore MCL in his left knee for most of camp, it was his first Grapefruit League appearance since March 5. "It felt good," said Carlson. "My arm felt good. My knee felt great. So, overall I'm pretty happy." With a couple more appearances under his belt, the southpaw should be ready for Opening Day.

Jesse Carlson (knee) threw 11 pitches during one inning appearance in a minor league game on Friday.

It was Carlson's appearance in a game since March 5. The southpaw has been on the shelf due to a sore MCL in his left knee. Despite the lack of work, the club is optimistic that he will still have enough time to be ready for the start of the season.

Jesse Carlson (knee) threw off a mound on Wednesday.

Carlson hasn't appeared in an exhibition game since March 5 due to a sore MCL in his left knee. Regardless, Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston believes the southpaw still has enough time to get ready for the start of the season. We'll see about that one.
