Esmil Rogers has decided not to play for the Dominican Republic in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.

Like fellow teammate Melky Cabrera, Rogers felt like he needed to be in camp with his new team. The 27-year-old right-hander was acquired by the Blue this offseason in the Mike Aviles trade with the Indians and will likely work in a middle relief role for Toronto in 2013.

Blue Jays acquired RHP Esmil Rogers from the Indians for INF Mike Aviles and INF/C Yan Gomes.

Rogers came over to the Indians after being designated for assignment by the Rockies in mid-June. The 27-year-old reliever is currently out of options, but remains under team control through 2016. A converted starter, Rogers averaged 95.7 mph on his fastball last season.

Rogers was acquired from the Rockies for cash considerations on Tuesday. The 26-year-old right-hander has an ugly 8.06 ERA over 25 2/3 innings this season. The corresponding roster move isn't yet known.

Rogers was designated for assignment by Colorado over the weekend after registering a brutal 8.06 ERA and 2.10 WHIP in 25 2/3 innings. The 26-year-old righty is doubtful to suddenly find success with the Tribe.

The move clears a roster spot for the recently-signed Jeff Francis. Rogers generated some trade interest last month and seems likely to be acquired or claimed off waivers for the prorated minimum.

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, Rockies right-hander Esmil Rogers is drawing trade interest.

And the Rox are "open to moving him," Rosenthal adds. Rogers has posted a brutal 8.66 ERA and 2.09 WHIP in 17 2/3 innings of relief this season and is out of minor league options. He turns 26 years old in August.

Esmil Rogers was drilled by the Giants Sunday, allowing nine runs on seven hits and two walks over just 3 2/3 innings.

Rogers unraveled in the fourth inning, giving up three of his four homers allowed on the day and watching another one leave the park the first batter after he exited. The right-hander was good his last time out, but that was his only decent start over his last seven outings. He’ll bring an ugly 6.64 ERA and 1.83 WHIP into next weekend’s start against the Astros.

Esmil Rogers allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks in six innings of work on Wednesday, falling to 6-4 in Colorado's 4-2 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Rogers was done in by one huge mistake in the first, where he served up a three-run homer to Miguel Montero. Now the owner of a 5.94 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 53/33 K/BB ratio through 63 2/3 innings, he'll get the Diamondbacks again on Monday. He's a no-go in NL-only leagues.

Esmil Rogers gave up four runs over six innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Dodgers.

It could have been a lot worse, as Rogers allowed a career-high 12 hits. On the bright side, he limited the damage by walking one and striking out five. The 26-year-old right-hander has a 6.00 ERA in 51 innings this season and a 6.02 ERA for his career, so he might not get many more chances before Jason Hammel rejoins the starting rotation.

Esmil Rogers gave up four runs in five innings and walked seven Sunday night in a loss to the Cardinals.

Rogers had won three in a row since stepping in for Ubaldo Jimenez on the Saturday night before the trade deadline. Command is an issue and his 6.00 ERA remains awfully unattractive, but he's an acceptable spot starter in NL-only leagues. He's a decent option with a home start against the Dodgers next.

Esmil Rogers kept the Reds in check Tuesday, limiting them to two runs on eight hits and two walks over six innings in a 3-2 win.

He struck out six. Rogers has now allowed just three runs over 11 2/3 innings in his two outings since taking Ubaldo Jimenez's vacated spot in the rotation. He's also managed to run his record to 6-1 despite a woeful 5.85 ERA and 1.72 WHIP. Rogers faces the Cardinals on Sunday.

The 25-year-old Rogers will take the open spot left by Saturday's Ubaldo Jimenez trade. He's posted a 7.31 ERA so far this season and can be avoided in fantasy leagues.

After taking over for Ubaldo Jimenez in the second inning, Esmil Rogers allowed one run and one hit in five innings to earn a win Saturday against the Padres.

This should make Rogers the favorite to step into Jimenez's rotation spot. He was lit up in his two relief appearances for Colorado this season, but he's actually been solid in four of his five starts.
