One night after throwing 35 pitches, Esmil Rogers was left in for 81 pitches in the 19-inning game against the Red Sox and took the loss.
Rogers gave up three runs -- two earned -- in 4 2/3 innings on a night in which the Yankees would have preferred to stay away from him entirely. There's a good chance that they'll put him on the DL before Saturday's game; he'll be sore enough to justify it. Apr 11 - 2:54 AM

Esmil Rogers allowed four hits over three scoreless innings Saturday versus the Blue Jays.

Rogers struck out three and walked none. He's in the mix along with Adam Warren and Chase Whitley for the fifth spot in the Yankees rotation with Chris Capuano down. Really, though, he should be the fallback choice in that group.

Yankees and RHP Esmil Rogers avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman says Rogers will receive $750,000 guaranteed and can earned up to $1.48 million. The right-hander held a 5.72 ERA over 45 2/3 innings for the Blue Jays and Yankees in 2014.

Esmil Rogers allowed one run over five innings in a win over the Indians on Friday.

Rogers, who was claimed off waivers this week and took David Phelps' place in the rotation, held his former team to just four hits and one walk while fanning three batters. The only run scored on an RBI single in the first inning. Michael Pineda (shoulder) figures to join the rotation next week, but the Yankees have to be thrilled with what they got from Rogers here.

Esmil Rogers will start Friday against the Indians.

Rogers was just claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays last week and ultimately got the call over Chase Whitley to start in place of David Phelps. Of course, it's possible that Whitley will just follow Rogers in relief. Either way, Rogers isn't a fantasy option.

Esmil Rogers and Chase Whitley appear to be the leading candidate to start on Friday against the Indians.

Both are in the bullpen now, but Rogers has made seven starts in the minors this season and Whitley has made 12 starts for the Yankees. It might only be a spot start, as Michael Pineda (back) could be ready to rejoin the rotation next week.

Yankees claimed RHP Esmil Rogers off waivers from the Blue Jays.

Rogers was designated for assignment by Toronto on July 27. The 28-year-old right-hander owns an ugly 5.59 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 396 career major league innings.

Blue Jays designated RHP Esmil Rogers for assignment.

Rogers was only up with the big club for a few days and didn't appear in a game. He cleared waivers the last time he was designated for assignment and should do so again, though he'll have the option of declaring free agency.

Blue Jays purchased the contract of RHP Esmil Rogers from Triple-A Buffalo.

Rogers posted a 6.97 ERA over 16 appearances at the major league level earlier this season, but he's back because the Blue Jays need a fresh arm for their bullpen. Look for him to pitch in long relief.

Esmil Rogers is expected to be called up from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.

Rogers was outrighted off the 40-man roster back in May, but the Blue Jays need a fresh arm in their bullpen. The 28-year-old owns a 6.97 ERA over 16 appearances at the major league level this season and figures to pitch in long relief.

Blue Jays sent Esmil Rogers outright to Triple-A Buffalo.

The veteran right-hander passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as organizational depth both in the rotation and the bullpen for the Blue Jays.

Blue Jays designated RHP Esmil Rogers for assignment.

The move clears room on the roster for Liam Hendriks, who will start Friday. Rogers struck out a batter per inning but posted a 6.97 ERA over 16 appearances for the Jays this season. The 28-year-old still throws in the mid-90s, so he'll land on his feet somewhere.

Esmil Rogers was pounded for 10 runs -- nine earned -- in 2 2/3 innings by the Pirates on Tuesday.

Ouch. The wind was a huge problem for Jays pitchers today, but this was a bad showing regardless. Rogers' spring ERA jumped all of the way up to 9.37, though he does have 22 strikeouts to go along with his five homers and 25 hits allowed in 16 1/3 innings this spring. With his roster spot in doubt, the Jays could consider releasing Rogers to save three-quarters or his $1.85 million salary or waiving him in order to attempt to send him to the minors.

Esmil Rogers yielded one run in 4 2/3 innings and fanned six Phillies in his start Thursday.

It's not official, but it sure looks like the Jays rotation is set, assuming Brandon Morrow and J.A. Happ finish the spring healthy (Drew Hutchinson figures to get the other spot). Rogers will probably stick around as a middle reliever, though the Jays could also flip him of someone wants to offer up a prospect.

Esmil Rogers gave up four runs and five hits in three innings against the Astros on Thursday.

Carlos Correa and Jonathan Singleton hit back-to-back homers off him in the third. Rogers has a $1.85 million deal and is out of options, so he was certainly being penciled onto the Toronto staff at the beginning of the spring. Since he is struggling so far -- he's allowed seven runs and three homers in nine innings -- he seems more likely to pitch in middle relief than make the rotation.
