The Indians will call up Brett Hayes before Tuesday's game.

That means Carlos Santana will serve as the backup catcher for only one day, so you can forget him adding eligibility there in fantasy leagues. Hayes will back up Roberto Perez while Yan Gomes (knee) is out.

Brett Hayes went 0-for-3 while filling in for Salvador Perez on Wednesday and is 0-for-22 as the Royals' backup catcher this season.

The Royals let George Kottaras go and decided to save money by keeping Hayes as their backup, figuring he'd play less than any other backup in the league. That'd be for the best, since he really is a brutal hitter. He's at .207 with nine homers and a 124/21 K/BB ratio in 372 career at-bats.

Royals avoided arbitration with C Brett Hayes by agreeing to a one-year contract.

Royals and C Brett Hayes avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $600,000 contract.
