Braves signed RHP Alex White to a minor league contract.
The 26-year-old will report to Triple-A Gwinnett. Before he was released by the Astros, White posted a 5.56 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 18/17 K/BB ratio across 43 2/3 innings at Triple-A Fresno. He'll function as organizational rotation depth for the Braves. Thu, Jun 11, 2015 09:54:00 PM

Astros released RHP Alex White.

White is a former first-round pick and top-100 prospect, but he's dealt with a bunch of injuries and hasn't performed well in the majors or minors the last couple years. He's still just 26, so someone will give him a shot despite his career 6.03 ERA across 149 1/3 major league innings.

Astros sent RHP Alex White outright to Triple-A Fresno.

He was designated for assignment over the weekend but has cleared waivers and will remain in the organization. White looked awful last season and also during spring training in his first action since Tommy John surgery.

Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Astros have placed right-hander Alex White on outright waivers.

White, 26, was designated for assignment by the Astros over the weekend. He'll either be claimed by another club or clear waivers and be outrighted to Triple-A. There should be a resolution by Wednesday.

Astros designated RHP Alex White for assignment.

The team optioned White to Triple-A Fresno several weeks ago, so this doesn't come as huge surprise. White had a lopsided 0/6 K/BB ratio in four innings of spring baseball. He also allowed seven runs in that span.

Astros optioned RHP Alex White to Triple-A Fresno; re-assigned INFs Nolan Fontana, Colin Moran and Matt Duffy, C Roberto Pena, RHP Jason Stoeffel and OF Preston Tucker to minor league camp.

White really struggled this spring, giving up seven runs with a 0/6 K/BB ratio across four innings. He's started and relieved in the past, but the Astros might decide to move him to the bullpen for good at some point.

Astros activated RHP Alex White from the 15-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

White is still on his way back from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery. The 25-year-old right-hander could be an option for the Astros at some point in June.

Alex White (elbow) showed improved fastball velocity in a simulated game on Tuesday afternoon.

White underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery last April. The right-hander could become an option for the Astros at some point in mid-to-late May.

Astros placed RHP Alex White on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21, with a right elbow injury.

White needs more time as he makes his way back from Tommy John surgery. He's not a given to be added to the big league roster once he's ready physically.

Alex White (elbow) threw a bullpen session Monday.

It's a big step in the right direction for White, who is making his way back from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery. The young right-hander probably won't be available to the Astros until late April or early May. He has a 6.03 ERA in 149 1/3 career major league innings.

While being ready for Opening Day hasn't been ruled out, Alex White (elbow) is just shooting to be ready sometime in April.

Working his way back from Tommy John surgery, White threw to live hitters Monday and will do the same thing again on Friday. He's only thrown fastballs and changeups thus far but he plans to progress to breaking balls next week. "I’m waiting on the velocity, to be honest," White said. "They basically assured me it just kind of comes. We’re still at 10 months, and we’re looking at April." The Astros could use White some as a reliever in order to limit his workload, but the plan for now is him returning as a starter.

Alex White (elbow) is on track to be healthy at the start of spring training in February.

Astros activated RHP Alex White from the 60-day disabled list.

The young right-hander missed the entire 2013 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. White's availability for the start of 2014 will be determined by his progress this winter. White is a lauded talent and former top prospect, but he owns a career 7.35 ERA and is coming off a career-threatening injury.

Alex White will undergo Tommy John surgery.

White showed diminished velocity this spring and was diagnosed with a strained pitching elbow, but the injury turned out to be worse than that. The young right-hander will obviously miss all of 2013 and might not be ready for the start of 2014.

Alex White said Tuesday night that the Astros are waiting for an MRI of his right elbow to be examined by Dr. James Andrews.

White was placed on the 60-day disabled list with what was termed as a right elbow strain, but the Astros are preparing themselves for the possibility of Tommy John surgery. The 24-year-old could pay a visit to Dr. Andrews later this week.
