The Nationals have sent Ryan Perry to Double-A Harrisburg to begin working him as a starter.

Perry failed to make much of an impression as a reliever this year in Washington, posting a rough 10.13 ERA and 1.75 WHIP in seven appearances. The former first-round pick of the Tigers was a starter in college and boasts a big arm. It seems like an experiment worth trying.

Nationals optioned RHP Ryan Perry to Triple-A Syracuse.

Perry posted a 10.13 ERA and 1.75 WHIP over seven appearances since getting the call in late April. He'll return to a 2.00 ERA and 11 strikeouts over nine innings of work at Syracuse.

Nationals recalled RHP Ryan Perry from Triple-A Syracuse.

Perry, who was acquired from the Tigers over the winter, was a first round pick in the 2008 draft. He had been pitching well for Syracuse, with a 2.00 ERA and 11 strikeouts and two saves in nine innings of work. He'll likely be used in a setup role for Henry Rodriguez.

Bill Ladson of MLB.com reports that the Nationals have called up right-hander Ryan Perry from Triple-A Syracuse.

No word yet on a corresponding roster move, but Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo is set to make a "newsworthy baseball announcement" shortly. We're guessing it will likely have something to do with a possible stint on the disabled list for Ryan Zimmerman. Perry, who was acquired from the Tigers over the winter, has a 2.00 ERA and 11/4 K/BB ratio over nine innings this season at the Triple-A level.

Nationals optioned RHP Ryan Perry to Triple-A Syracuse.

Perry posted a 2.25 ERA in eight innings this spring but failed to win a spot in the Nationals' talented big-league bullpen. He'll function as relief depth this year.

Nationals acquired RHP Ryan Perry from the Tigers in exchange for RHP Collin Balester.

Perry once looked like the Tigers' closer of the future when he was selected in the first round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, but the organization clearly soured on him after he posted a 5.36 ERA and 24/21 K/BB ratio over 37 innings this past season. The 24-year-old right-hander still throws hard, but has simply struggled to put batters away on the big-league level. Still, it's a worthwhile gamble for Washington.

Entering a tie game in the 11th inning of Monday's Game 2 ALCS contest, Ryan Perry surrendered four runs on four hits to take the loss.

After Perry gave up three singles to start the inning, the Rangers' Nelson Cruz drove his fourth pitch into the stands for the first walk-off grand slam in MLB postseason history. It was the reliever's first blemish in four playoff appearances.

Tigers recalled RHP Ryan Perry from Triple-A Toledo.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland wasted little time using him. Perry tossed a scoreless ninth inning on Sunday, giving up only one hit.

The Tigers are expected to recall Ryan Perry from Triple-A Toledo before Saturday's game.

He will replace Al Alburquerque on the active roster. Perry, 24, has an ugly 7.06 ERA and 16/12 K/BB ratio over 21 1/3 innings at the big league level this season, though he has 7 1/3 shutout innings under his belt with Toledo this month.

Tigers optioned RHP Ryan Perry to Triple-A Toledo.

Perry has struggled all season at the major league level, posting an ugly 7.06 ERA and 16/12 K/BB ratio over 21 1/3 innings. He was a reliable set-up man in 2010, so the Tigers are hoping he can find himself in the minors. Al Alburquerque will take his place on the active roster.

Tigers recalled RHP Ryan Perry from Triple-A Toledo.

The Tigers sent Perry down back in late May to regain his mojo and that's exactly what he did, posting a 1.69 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 16/3 K/BB ratio over 16 innings. He'll likely work the middle innings initially but could find himself back in a setup role eventually.

Ryan Perry has posted a 2.45 ERA and 13/2 K/BB ratio over 11 inning since being optioned to Triple-A.

But, a recall to the majors isn't imminent, as the Tigers want to see him have more success and also work multiple innings. "He's doing well," manager Jim Leyland said. "But he needs to be down there pitching. He's doing pretty good. I do expect him to be back at some point. But who knows? He needs to get some things ironed out on a consistent basis."

Tigers optioned RHP Ryan Perry to Triple-A Toledo.

He was cleared to make room for Saturday's starter Andy Oliver on the active roster. Perry has allowed seven runs over his last two appearances and has an ugly 12.19 ERA and 10/9 K/BB ratio over 10 1/3 innings this season. He already had a stint on the disabled list due to an eye infection and one wonders if it has affected his performance.

Tigers activated RHP Ryan Perry from the disabled list.

The Tigers have yet to announce a corresponding roster move. Perry will return to a set-up role.
