Tanner Scheppers has been diagnosed with a left abdominal strain.

Mar 25 - 11:43 AM

Tanner Scheppers is set to undergo an MRI after leaving Friday's Cactus League appearance due to pain in his "lower core".

Tanner Scheppers got the call and pitched a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to preserve the Rangers' 3-2 win over the Astros.

Scheppers retired the Astros in order, striking out one in the process. It's hard to know what to make of the Rangers' bullpen situation right now, but it's worth noting that Scheppers got a save chance a day after Sam Dyson blew his fifth save of the year. Perhaps Dyson wasn't available or Rangers manager Jeff Banister will employ a dreaded closer-by-committee down the stretch, but Scheppers, who has yet to allow a run in 3 1/3 innings since coming off the disabled list, is worth a speculative add for save-needy teams.
