Phillies acquired RHPs Ethan Martin and Josh Lindblom and a player to be named later or cash considerations from the Dodgers for OF Shane Victorino.

Martin's star has faded a bit since he was a 2008 first-round pick, but the 23-year-old has rebounded this season by posting a 3.58 ERA and 112/61 K/BB ratio in 118 innings this season with Double-A Chattanooga. The hard-throwing right-hander has averaged 4.7 BB/9, which is actually an improvement from his 5.7 BB/9 average. He still has a chance to make it as a starter in the big leagues.

2008 first-round pick Ethan Martin pitched five scoreless innings and struck out nine Saturday for Single-A Inland Empire.

Martin has maybe the highest ceiling among Dodgers pitching prospects, though he’s probably less likely to reach his than Chris Withrow or Josh Lindblom. He went 6-8 with a 3.87 ERA and a 120/61 K/BB ratio in 100 innings in low-A ball last year.

2008 first-round pick Ethan Martin threw five scoreless innings Saturday for low Single-A Great Lakes.

The Dodgers announced Martin as a third baseman when they made him the 15th overall pick last year, but they reconsidered and put him on the mound before he even made his pro debut. He had plenty of upside in either role, but he's not going to move quickly.

Ethan Martin, the Dodgers' first-round draft pick in June's draft, will undergo season-ending knee surgery.

Martin, who the Dodgers now plan on using as a pitcher instead of a third baseman, reportedly injured his knee during fielding drills. The severity of the injury is unknown.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the Dodgers have signed first-round pick Ethan Martin.

Martin, who the Dodgers intend to use as a third baseman instead of a pitcher, is expected to get a $1.7 million bonus. He's still less famous than his younger brother, Cody, the high school pitcher who hit an umpire in the head when his catcher ducked out of the way, thus creating a popular YouTube clip. Some believe the incident was prompted when Ethan argued a strike three call in the top half of that inning.

Dodgers selected high school third baseman Ethan Martin with the 15th pick in the draft.

The Dodgers had him announced as a third baseman, but most teams are believed to have preferred him as a pitcher. As an infielder, he might not have quite the same ceiling. He should hit for power in a few years, but he might not make enough contact to become a regular at a premium offensive position.
