Xavier Avery slugged a two-run homer and drew two walks in Friday’s 8-7 win over the Phillies.

Avery, a non-roster invitee, has three home runs in his last five games. The 26-year-old has enjoyed a nice spring, but it's probably not enough for him to win a spot on the Opening Day roster unless something gives with Hyun-soo Kim. Avery hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2012.

Xavier Avery is nursing a hip flexor injury.

He won't play Friday and it's unclear when he might be available again. Avery is in camp as a non-roster invitee.

Orioles signed OF Xavier Avery to a minor league contract.

It's unclear if the deal will include an invite to big league camp. The 25-year-old outfielder was drafted by the Orioles in 2008 and played in the organization until he moved on to Seattle midway through the 2013 season. He hit .282/.343/.382 with six homers, 52 RBI and 19 stolen bases between Triple-A Toledo and Triple-A Sacramento.

Twins signed OF Xavier Avery to a minor league contract.

Avery opted out of his minor league deal with the Tigers earlier this month. He's hit .305/.371/.393 at the Triple-A level this season and offers the Twins some outfield depth.

Tigers released OF Xavier Avery.

Avery exercised a July 1 opt-out in his minor league contract with the Tigers. The 25-year-old outfielder was batting .305/.371/.393 with one homer and 14 stolen bases through 73 games for Triple-A Toledo and should have no trouble latching on with a new organization.

Tigers prospect Xavier Avery has shown a nice blend of speed and hitting in the early going, batting .417 with four steals in his first six games for Triple-A Toledo.

Toledo has the look of a Triple-A juggernaut, winning four of its first six games and doing it in convincing fashion. As the team's leadoff hitter, Avery has been a big part of the team's early success. Avery isn't a power hitter by any means (just ten jacks last season), but the speed is real. The Tigers don't have a proven center fielder, which means Avery could see time with the big club at some point this year.

Tigers signed OF Xavier Avery to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Avery spent all of the 2014 season at Triple-A with the Mariners, batting .275/.344/.413 with 10 homers and 31 steals. He lands in a good spot, as the Tigers' center field job is in flux, but ultimately he's unlikely to get much of an opportunity at the big league level in 2015.

Mariners sent OF Xavier Avery outright to Triple-A Tacoma.

Avery had been designated for assignment, but he's cleared waivers and will remain in the organization. The speedster is a career .261/.329/.356 hitter in the minors.

Mariners designated OF Xavier Avery for assignment.

Avery has speed but has hit just .261/.329/.356 in the minors. He could pass through waivers unclaimed.

Mariners acquired OF Xavier Avery from the Orioles for 1B/OF Michael Morse.

Avery is a career .260/.328/.354 hitter in the minors that batted only .223/.305/.340 during a 32-game stint with the O's last year. He's a great athlete, but his lack of hitting skills limits him to being, at best, a fourth outfielder.

Orioles optioned OF Xavier Avery to Triple-A Norfolk.

Avery was only up for one day and didn't appear in a game. The O's will bring up a reliever prior to Friday's game.

Orioles recalled OF Xavier Avery from Triple-A Norfolk.

Avery was sporting a weak .192/.271/.250 batting line at Triple-A. He probably won't be up for very long.
Thu, Jun 6, 2013 12:23:00 PM

Orioles optioned OF Xavier Avery, RHP Zach Clark and LHP Mike Belfiore to Triple-A Norfolk.

Avery had a shot at earning a bench job this spring, but none of these cuts are surprising. Belfiore is a guy to keep an eye on after he experienced a bit of a breakthrough last season in the minors in his first full year as a reliever.

Orioles recalled OF Xavier Avery from Triple-Norfolk.

Avery hit .278 (5-for-18) during his latest stint in the majors and is capable of backing up all three outfield spots. He could see semi-regular starts behind Nate McLouth in left field, but won't hold any fantasy value outside of AL-only leagues.
