Tigers prospect Xavier Avery has shown a nice blend of speed and hitting in the early going, batting .417 with four steals in his first six games for Triple-A Toledo.
Toledo has the look of a Triple-A juggernaut, winning four of its first six games and doing it in convincing fashion. As the team's leadoff hitter, Avery has been a big part of the team's early success. Avery isn't a power hitter by any means (just ten jacks last season), but the speed is real. The Tigers don't have a proven center fielder, which means Avery could see time with the big club at some point this year. Apr 15 - 4:55 PM

Tigers signed OF Xavier Avery to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Avery spent all of the 2014 season at Triple-A with the Mariners, batting .275/.344/.413 with 10 homers and 31 steals. He lands in a good spot, as the Tigers' center field job is in flux, but ultimately he's unlikely to get much of an opportunity at the big league level in 2015.

Mariners sent OF Xavier Avery outright to Triple-A Tacoma.

Avery had been designated for assignment, but he's cleared waivers and will remain in the organization. The speedster is a career .261/.329/.356 hitter in the minors.

Mariners acquired OF Xavier Avery from the Orioles for 1B/OF Michael Morse.

Avery is a career .260/.328/.354 hitter in the minors that batted only .223/.305/.340 during a 32-game stint with the O's last year. He's a great athlete, but his lack of hitting skills limits him to being, at best, a fourth outfielder.

Orioles optioned OF Xavier Avery to Triple-A Norfolk.

Avery was only up for one day and didn't appear in a game. The O's will bring up a reliever prior to Friday's game.

Orioles recalled OF Xavier Avery from Triple-A Norfolk.

Avery was sporting a weak .192/.271/.250 batting line at Triple-A. He probably won't be up for very long.

Orioles optioned OF Xavier Avery, RHP Zach Clark and LHP Mike Belfiore to Triple-A Norfolk.

Avery had a shot at earning a bench job this spring, but none of these cuts are surprising. Belfiore is a guy to keep an eye on after he experienced a bit of a breakthrough last season in the minors in his first full year as a reliever.

Orioles recalled OF Xavier Avery from Triple-Norfolk.

Avery hit .278 (5-for-18) during his latest stint in the majors and is capable of backing up all three outfield spots. He could see semi-regular starts behind Nate McLouth in left field, but won't hold any fantasy value outside of AL-only leagues.

He was likely cleared to make room for Endy Chavez, who is expected to be activated from the disabled list Friday. Avery is hitting .233/.317/.356 with six steals and a .672 OPS in 103 plate appearances at the big league level this season and should be back later this summer.

Orioles recalled OF Xavier Avery from Triple-A Norfolk.

Avery is starting in left field on Thursday night against the Indians and could be in line for regular playing time while the O's battle through a multitude of outfield injuries. Avery, 22, hit just .217 with a .615 OPS in 68 plate appearances for Baltimore earlier this year, but he may be a good source of steals in AL-only fantasy leagues.

Orioles optioned OF Xavier Avery to Triple-A Norfolk.

Avery will head back down to the minors to play every day now that Endy Chavez is back from the disabled list. The 22-year-old batted .217/.299/.317 with four RBI, four stolen bases and a .615 OPS in 68 plate appearances during his first stint in the majors.

Xavier Avery went 0-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in Monday's setback to Boston.

Interestingly, Avery was the only batter on either side not to get a hit. Still, he is off to a good major league start with a .278/.366/.417 triple slash.
