Orioles optioned OF Xavier Avery, RHP Zach Clark and LHP Mike Belfiore to Triple-A Norfolk.
Avery had a shot at earning a bench job this spring, but none of these cuts are surprising. Belfiore is a guy to keep an eye on after he experienced a bit of a breakthrough last season in the minors in his first full year as a reliever. Mar 11 - 11:04 AM

Orioles recalled OF Xavier Avery from Triple-Norfolk.

Avery hit .278 (5-for-18) during his latest stint in the majors and is capable of backing up all three outfield spots. He could see semi-regular starts behind Nate McLouth in left field, but won't hold any fantasy value outside of AL-only leagues.

Orioles recalled OF Xavier Avery from Triple-A Norfolk.

Avery is starting in left field on Thursday night against the Indians and could be in line for regular playing time while the O's battle through a multitude of outfield injuries. Avery, 22, hit just .217 with a .615 OPS in 68 plate appearances for Baltimore earlier this year, but he may be a good source of steals in AL-only fantasy leagues.

The Orioles are expected to purchase the contract of outfield prospect Xavier Avery from Triple-A Norfolk prior to Sunday's game.

He's not on the 40-man roster, so the O's will have to do some shuffling. Avery, 22, is batting .273/.373/.469 with five homers and eight steals for Norfolk. He could receive some playing time in left field with both Nolan Reimold and Endy Chavez out. Avery will be making his major league debut.
