Athletics manager Bob Melvin said he plans to give Grant Green "an extended look" at second base in spring training.

A 2009 first-round pick, Green batted .296/.338/.458 with 15 homers and 13 steals at the Triple-A level in 2012. While the Athletics have had trouble finding him a position, he should have an outside chance at cracking the Opening Day roster and will likely make his major league debut at some point in 2013.

Athletics purchased the contract of INF/OF Grant Green from Triple-A Sacramento.

A 2009 first-round pick, Green batted .296/.338/.458 with 15 homers and 13 steals in 2012 in his first taste of Triple-A. The A's have had trouble finding a position for him, but he could make his big league debut in 2013.

The Athletics have moved prospect Grant Green to second base.

Oakland traded Cliff Pennington this offseason and declined Stephen Drew's option for 2013, so Green and Jemile Weeks will be candidates for the Opening Day roster. The 13th overall pick in 2009, Green posted a .296/.338/.458 batting line with 15 home runs and 75 RBI last season at Triple-A Sacramento. The 25-year-old has yet to make his major league debut.

The Athletics moved prospect Grant Green from outfield to third base.

Green moved from shortstop to the outfield last year, and could be developed as a replacement for Brandon Inge and Josh Donaldson. The move to third base should fast track his promotion to the majors.

The A's have moved prospect Grant Green from shortstop to center field.

The Futures Game MVP didn't show enough at shortstop to convince the A's that he could stay there on a permanent basis, so they decided to make a move. Green has batted .286/.348/.398 with four homers and 40 RBI in 50 games with Double-A Midland this season. The move to the outfield could fast track his promotion to the big leagues.

Grant Green went 5-for-5 with a double Thursday for Single-A Stockton.

Green, the 13th overall pick in last year’s draft, isn’t off to a great start, despite the .297 average. He’s struggled versus righties, he has a 25/5 K/BB ratio, he’s slugging a modest .407 and he’s been caught on three of his four steal attempts. A polished college product out of USC, he should have better than a 732 OPS in the California League.

Single-A Stockton’s Grant Green had a second straight three-hit game Saturday.

He tripled and doubled in his five at-bats. Green, a first-round pick last year, had a case for opening the season in Double-A, but the A’s have a crowded infield situation in the upper minors. The 22-year-old shouldn’t have a whole lot of trouble with California League pitching over the first two or three months of the season.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that A's first-round pick Grant Green signed for $2.75 million.

Green, the 13th pick in this year's draft, should open next year in high-A ball and spend much of the season at Double-A. He doesn't have terrific range at shortstop, but he's a very polished player.

Athletics selected USC shortstop Grant Green with the 13th pick in the draft.

The A's may well have gone with Mike Leake if he was still sitting there, but Green provides solid value as well. He could possess 15- or 20-homer power down the line. He doesn't have terrific range at shortstop, but he should be able to stay there, which is very important with the A's loaded with potential second basemen. His bat probably wouldn't play particularly well at third.
