Jesus Guzman slugged a pinch-hit grand slam off Jeremy Hellickson in the sixth inning on Saturday.
Guzman’s blast pulled the Friars even with the Rays at 6-6, though they would end up blowing the game in the ninth inning. Guzman still has a disappointing .236/.300/.345 batting line with one homer and six RBI on the season. He remains a non-factor in fantasy leagues. May 11 - 9:39 PM

Jesus Guzman is in the Padres' starting lineup on Friday and will be making his first career start at third base.

With Cody Ransom designated for assignment, it appears that manager Bud Black will give Guzman an opportunity to serve in a platoon role at third base until Chase Headley returns. Guzman played 46 games at third base at the Triple-A level in 2011.

Jesus Guzman went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in Saturday's loss to the Mariners.

Guzman is expected to open the 2013 season as a backup to Yonder Alonso at first base and as insurance at both corner outfield spots. The 28-year-old hit .247/.319/.418 with nine homers and 48 RBI in 120 games last summer.

Jesus Guzman went 2-for-4 and hit a three-run homer versus the Rockies on Saturday.

Guzman has done an excellent job as a platoon player, with a .306 average, four homers and 16 walks in 112 at-bats against southpaws this season. He doesn't have much defensive value, so he probably wouldn't be very valuable in an expanded role. He's an asset as is, though.

Jesus Guzman went 3-for-4 and hit his fifth and sixth homers of the season Wednesday against the Giants.

Guzman is getting a bit more playing time of late, and he's now 10-for-27 with four homers this month. He may be a liability defensively in the outfield, but the Padres might want to keep sneaking him in there as long as he's hot.

Jesus Guzman singled and launched a two-run homer in Monday's win over the Astros.

Guzman's two-out shot in the eighth inning briefly put the Pads ahead before they coughed up the lead in the bottom of the frame. They wound up winning in extras, with Carlos Quentin doubling in Chase Headley to score the winner. Guzman is batting just .241 with two dingers this season.

Jesus Guzman broke a 1-1 tie with his first homer of the season in the bottom of the eighth Friday before the Padres went on to beat the Diamondbacks 7-1.

Guzman's pinch-hit homer off Wade Miley started a six-run inning for the Padres. Prior to tonight, he had collected 13 doubles this season, but he was still without a homer in 132 at-bats. He now has six homers versus 35 doubles in 400 major league at-bats.

Jesus Guzman went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk Saturday against the Marlins.

Guzman is 4-for-7 in his last three games, raising his average from .206 to .240. He's been limited to playing against left-handers lately, but he could start seeing regular time if he gets hot.

Jesus Guzman returned to action as a pinch-hitter on Wednesday, going 1-for-1 and lifting his batting average to .216.

He was sidelined Tuesday after getting two teeth extracted. In five plate appearances as a pinch-hitter this season, Guzman is now 3-for-4 with a walk.

Jesus Guzman is not in Tuesday's lineup after having two teeth extracted from the right side of his mouth Monday.

Ouch. Guzman, who is batting only .200/.259/.240 with no homers in the early going, should be ready to play shortly.

Jesus Guzman went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers, and bunted into a triple play in the ninth inning.

Yes, the Padres' "cleanup hitter" did in fact bunt into a triple play. With the game tied 4-4, Yonder Alonso singled to begin the ninth before Chase Headley drew a walk. But then in what was absurdly probably actually the right decision, the Pads elected to have their .162/.225/.216 hitting No. 4 hitter bunt. Guzman's attempt at a sacrifice bounced right in front of Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis, however, who was able to begin one of the rarest, but technically conventional, triple plays you'll ever see. That being said, the play would not have been executed had there not been confusion about whether the ball was fair or foul. Regardless, Guzman's time in the four-hole is almost certainly near an end.

Jesus Guzman came off the bench to hit a grand slam off Edgmer Escalona and lead the Padres to a 10-6 win over the Rockies on Tuesday.

Everyone knows Guzman can hit lefties, and he more than held his own against righties as well last season. The door is again open for him to start for the Padres with Carlos Quentin down, though it'll probably be just a temporary assignment. Until Guzman has a position to call his own, his fantasy value figures to be pretty limited.

Jesus Guzman was scratched from lineup Tuesday for the fourth time in the last five games.

Guzman is batting an issue with his neck that just won't go away. We'll have to see if he tries to give it a go Wednesday in the season finale. Guzman is batting a healthy .312/.369/.478 over 276 at-bats this season.

Jesus Guzman returned to action on Sunday with an 0-for-3 effort against the Dodgers.

Guzman had been dealing with a sore neck. He's now hitting .309/.367/.473 on the season.

Jesus Guzman (neck) could be back in the lineup Saturday.

Guzman was scratched Friday for the third time in four games due to a sore neck. He's been surprisingly productive for the Pads, batting .313/.369/.479 with five homers over 74 games.
