Tigers right-handed relief prospect Zach Simons has been named to the Eastern League All-Star Team.

Simons was selected in the second round of the 2005 draft and has taken a while to develop as a reliever. The 25-year-old has a 2.49 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP and 47 strikeouts in 43-plus innings at Double-A Erie this season and has allowed just one earned run in his last 31 innings of work.

Zach Simons - R - Rangers

Tigers acquired RHP Zach Simons from the Rockies for RHP Jason Grilli.

Simons, a 2005 second-round pick, was moved to the pen last year with mixed results. He had a 2.70 ERA and a 14/9 K/BB ratio in 13 1/3 innings for Single-A Modesto this year. It's doubtful that he'll make it to the majors.
