Carlin hit just .146/.315/.214 through 34 games with the Athletics' Triple-A affiliate. The 34-year-old may have a hard time catching on elsewhere at this point.

Athletics signed C Luke Carlin to a minor league contract.

Carlin, 34, spent all of last season at Triple-A with the Indians, batting only .217/.330/.370 with five homers. He's a catch-and-throw guy who will give the A's some depth behind the plate.

Indians signed C Luke Carlin to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Carlin spent last season at Triple-A with the Angels, batting .230/.339/.311 with four homers. The 33-year-old was with the Indians from 2010-12, totaling 10 games at the big league level. He gives the Tribe some organizational depth.

Angels signed C Luke Carlin to a minor league contract.

He'll be given a spring training invite. Carlin is a .179/.263/.286 career hitter in the major leagues and will surely wind up at Triple-A Salt Lake to start the season.

Luke Carlin has opted to become a free agent.

Carlin could have accepted a spot at Triple-A Columbus but will instead throw himself onto the free agent market. The 31-year-old catcher is a poor .179/.263/.286 career hitter in the major leagues and will probably be stuck with a minor league contract for 2013.

Indians sent C Luke Carlin outright to Triple-A Columbus.

Carlin cleared waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week. He'll continue to serve as catching depth in the minors.

Indians re-signed C Luke Carlin to a minor league contract.

The deal also contains a spring training invite. Carlin must really like Columbus, because he's elected to re-sign with the Tribe for the second offseason in a row despite spending all of 2011 at Triple-A and nearly all of 2010 there. Barring something unforeseen, he figures to spend most of 2012 at Columbus, as well.

Indians re-signed C Luke Carlin to a minor league contract.

With the contract comes an invitation to spring training. Carlin, 29, hit just .238/.332/.336 with four home runs over 244 at-bats this year at Triple-A and probably won't be in the Indians' plans next season.

Indians sent C Luke Carlin outright to Triple-A Columbus.

Carlin, 29, posted a poor .238/.332/.336 batting line at Triple-A this past season. He is now free to declare himself a free agent, but he might be better off remaining with the Indians as an emergency backup.

According to Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com, the Indians will promote catcher Luke Carlin and right-hander Vinnie Pestano before Thursday's game.

Both will need to be added to the 40-man roster, so the Indians will have to make a pair of corresponding roster moves. Carlin, 29, batted .238/.332/.336 with four home runs and 29 RBI between Triple-A Indianapolis (Pirates) and Triple-A Columbus (Indians) this season. Pestano, 25, has a 1.55 ERA, 14 saves and a 59/14 K/BB ratio over 46 1/3 innings with Triple-A Columbus this season.
