Pirates designated INF-OF Drew Sutton for assignment.

Sutton batted .254/.292/.393 over 130 plate appearances for the Rays and Pirates this year. Sutton, who signed a minor league deal with Atlanta in November, was traded to the Pirates in May, swapped to the Rays a day later, DFA'd by Tampa in June and subsequently claimed by Pittsburgh. The switch-hitter will likely be on the move to a new organization in the next few days.

Drew Sutton walked off the Pirates Tuesday with a solo blast in the bottom of the ninth against the Astros' Wesley Wright.

Sutton also had a couple singles and scored a run earlier in the game. He's been a pleasant surprise since being re-acquired by the Pirates last month, batting .407 with a homer and four RBI over eight games. He should continue to see regular time in right field with Jose Tabata in the minors and makes for a worthwhile NL-only play.

The Pirates traded Sutton to the Rays a month ago, but now they've gotten him back. He'll be used in a utility role in Pittsburgh.

He batted .271/.314/.354 over 18 games with the big club. There's a chance Sutton will be claimed off waivers, but, either way, he should get another shot in the majors with someone this season.

Rays acquired INF-OF Drew Sutton from the Pirates for a player to be named later.

Sutton was traded less than 24 hours ago from the Braves to the Bucs, and is now headed off to Tampa Bay. The 29-year-old switch-hitter owns a .270/.374/.372 batting line in 38 games this year at the Triple-A level. He should see some action at third base with the Rays.

Pirates acquired INF-OF Drew Sutton from the Braves for cash considerations; assigned him to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Sutton, who signed a minor league deal with Atlanta in November, flashed potential last year with the Red Sox, batting .315/.362/.444 in 60 plate appearances. The 29-year-old journeyman hit .270/.374/.372 in 38 games at Triple-A Gwinnett this year. He'll likely serve as a backup infielder in Indy.

Sutton was designated for assignment earlier this week by the Sox and has cleared waivers and remains in the organization. He could possibly be back up later this month if Boston decides they need an extra body.

He was sent down to make room for the newly-acquired Erik Bedard on the active roster. Sutton, 28, is batting .318/.362/.444 with seven doubles and seven RBI over 60 plate appearances with the Red Sox this season. He should be back when rosters expand in September, if not sooner.

He'll replace the injured J.D. Drew on the active roster. Sutton, 28, .298/.340/.447 over 51 plate appearances with the Red Sox this season and should continue to be a useful bench player for Terry Francona.

Darnell McDonald (quad) is ready to come off the DL, is expected to rejoin the Red Sox on Tuesday. Sutton went 8-for-30 with no homers and five RBI since being called up on May 20.
