Steve Johnson has elected to become a free agent.
Johnson will probably struggle to find anything better than a minor league contract on the open market this winter after posting a 4.32 ERA and 1.44 WHIP over 16 2/3 innings at the major league level in 2016. He did have a 2.05 ERA in 22 innings with Triple-A Tacoma. Oct 24 - 2:18 PM

Jun 17 - 3:05 PM

Johnson will join the Seattle bullpen Tuesday in place of Tony Zych, who is battling rotator cuff tendinitis. Johnson has an 8.14 ERA over his last 21 innings at the major league level dating back to 2013.
May 3 - 6:19 PM

Mariners signed RHP Steve Johnson to a minor league contract.

The Mariners have already assigned him to minor league camp. Johnson carried an ugly 21.60 ERA this spring before getting cut by the Rangers earlier this week. The 28-year-old appeared in six games with Baltimore last year.
Mar 17 - 1:08 PM

Rangers released RHP Steve Johnson.

Johnson signed a minor league contract with the Rangers in late January and also received an invitation to spring training, but he never stood a chance of cracking the Opening Day roster with Texas. This early release allows him time to find a better opportunity.
Mar 14 - 10:58 AM

Rangers signed RHP Steve Johnson to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The 28-year-old right-hander elected free agency after the Orioles designated him for assignment in early December. He posted a 2.30 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 67/16 K/BB ratio over 54 2/3 innings at Triple-A Norfolk in 2015. With his ability to both start and pitch out of the bullpen, he'll add valuable depth for the Rangers.
Jan 29 - 6:54 PM

Steve Johnson has elected free agency.

Johnson was removed from the 40-man roster earlier this week and will now seek employment elsewhere. He spent most of 2015 at Triple-A, holding a 2.30 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 67/16 K/BB ratio across 54 2/3 innings.

Orioles designated RHP Steve Johnson for assignment.

Johnson was called up to the Orioles on September 1, but didn't do much with the opportunity. The 28-year-old right-hander pitched 5 1/3 innings, surrendering six runs on eight hits over that space. He fared better in his time at Triple-A, holding a 2.30 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 67/16 K/BB ratio across 54 2/3 innings. If he clears waivers, he'll have the option of either accepting an outright assignment or electing free agency.

Orioles purchased the contract of RHP Steve Johnson from Triple-A Norfolk.

Johnson hasn't pitched in a major league game since back in 2013, but he's been killing it at Triple-A this season. With Norfolk, he's pitched to a 2.30 ERA, 1.079 WHIP and 67/16 K/BB ratio covering 54 2/3 innings. Assuming he can translate those numbers back to the major league level, he should find a contributing role in the Oriole pen over the next month.

Steve Johnson is expected to join the Orioles on Tuesday.

He'll be part of the club's first wave of September callups. Johnson has not appeared in a major league game since 2013, but he boasts a 2.30 ERA, 1.079 WHIP, and 67/16 K/BB ratio in 54 2/3 innings this season at Triple-A Norfolk. The 28-year-old right-hander should do well in a middle relief role over the final month of the 2015 campaign.

Orioles reassigned RHP Steve Johnson to minor league camp.

With the move, the O's now have 41 players remaining in major league camp. The 27-year-old hurler appeared in four games for the O's in Grapefruit League action, posting a 6.75 ERA and 1.75 WHIP in four innings. He'll begin the season at Triple-A Norfolk, but should get an opportunity with the big league club before long.

Steve Johnson (finger) will not pitch in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game.

Johnson was originally scheduled to pitch Wednesday, but the Orioles want him to get one more day of work in before pitching in a game. The 27-year-old recently dealt with a jammed middle finger, but he's feeling better now.

Steve Johnson threw off a mound Wednesday and said that his finger felt good.

Johnson skipped his throwing session on Monday due to a jammed middle finger, but he's back on track now. He'll try to secure a bullpen spot this spring, but appears more likely to serve as minor league depth.

Johnson skipped his throwing session on Monday due to a jammed middle finger, but he played catch Tuesday and is now ready to get back on the mound. The 27-year-old is camp with the O's as a non-roster invitee after missing most of last season with shoulder issues.
