Blue Jays released 1B David Cooper.

Cooper hasn't played this spring due to a lingering serious back injury and now the Jays have decided to cut ties. The 25-year-old batted .300 with four homers and a .788 OPS in 145 plate appearances in the majors last season. Assuming he gets back to full health at some point, he could do well with a change of scenery.

David Cooper will not report to Blue Jays' camp due to a back issue.

Cooper ended last season on the disabled list with a back problem, and evidently a winter of rest wasn't enough to heal. The first baseman is consulting with specialists before the next step is determined. Cooper batted .300 with a .788 OPS in 45 games last season for Toronto and would have been in line to compete for a bench job, but obviously that won't happen now.

Cooper had a flare-up while playing in a rehab game on Tuesday night. The 25-year-old first baseman batted .300 with a .788 OPS in 45 games this season for Toronto.

Blue Jays placed 1B David Cooper on the 15-day disabled list with an upper back injury.

Cooper has been plagued by back discomfort for over a week, and the Blue Jays decided Saturday that it wasn't worth keeping him active. He's batting .300/.324/.464 with four homers and 11 RBI in 45 games this year.

Cooper is currently dealing with upper back spasms. He could be back in the lineup as as soon as Saturday, which would allow Adam Lind (back) to take some extra time on his rehab assignment.

David Cooper is out of the Blue Jays' starting lineup on Thursday due to upper back spasms.

Cooper first felt the discomfort after diving back into first base Wednesday night. "It's in that upper back and neck," Blue Jays manager John Farrell told reporters Thursday. "When he jarred himself, I don't want to say whiplash, but there was a jarring effect that he felt in the neck in addition to the area of spasms before."

David Cooper (back) went 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored in his return to action Tuesday.

Cooper was a late scratch from Sunday's lineup due to lower back tightness, but it shouldn't be an issue moving forward. The 25-year-old is hitting .297/.322/.464 with four home runs, 11 RBI and a .785 OPS in 44 games with the Jays this season and continues to be a useful option in AL-only leagues.

David Cooper hit a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Rays.

Cooper took tough Rays closer Fernando Rodney deep in the ninth. The bomb was his second in four games, and fourth in 93 at-bats this season. He's now hitting .280/.316/.473. Cooper is far from a dynamic fantasy option, but his power makes him worth an own in AL-only leagues while Adam Lind is on the shelf.

David Cooper blasted a ninth-inning solo homer off Ryan Cook on Saturday, giving the Blue Jays the opportunity for a 3-1 victory over the A's.

Cooper, hitting out of the cleanup spot, finished the game 1-for-5. He's hitting .282 with three homers and seven RBI in 85 at-bats this season, and should continue to get at-bats while Adam Lind is sidelined.

David Cooper went 0-for-4 in Wednesday's loss and is 0-for-13 in his last five games.

Cooper was hitting .364 prior to the recent slump, which played a big role in the Jays' decision not to give Vladimir Guerrero a try. One wonders if they might end up regretting that.
