Reds purchased the contract of OF Xavier Paul from Triple-A Louisville.
Paul recently signed a minor league deal with the Reds after opting out of his contract with the Nationals. The 27-year-old has a .246/.288/.341 batting line over 411 plate appearances in the majors and can be ignored in most fantasy leagues. Wed, Jul 18, 2012 03:46:00 PM

Xavier Paul has elected free agency.

Paul evidently had the ability to opt out of his minor league contract with the Nationals. The 27-year-old outfielder was hitting .318/.379/.517 with eight homers, 44 RBI and an .896 OPS through 59 games with Triple-A Syracuse.

Nationals signed OF Xavier Paul to a minor league contract.

Paul hit just .255/.292/.346 with two home runs in 262 plate appearances this past year for the Dodgers and Pirates. He'll serve as outfield depth with the Nats.

Pirates released OF Xavier Paul.

Paul's nightmare offseason continues. His name was used in an identity hoax earlier this month in Australia, the Pirates DFA'd him 10 days ago, and now he's been given his walking papers. MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch writes that the Pirates expressed interest in Paul returning, but he cannot resign with the organization until May 16, per baseball rules, which makes a reunion unlikely. The 26-year-old outfielder batted .255/.292/.346 with two homers, 20 RBI, 16 stolen bases and a .638 OPS over 262 plate appearances this season between the Dodgers and Pirates.

Pirates designated OF Xavier Paul for assignment.

This offseason hasn't been kind to Paul, whose name was used in an identity hoax earlier this month in Australia. The 26-year-old outfielder batted .255/.292/.346 with two homers, 20 RBI, 16 stolen bases and a .638 OPS over 262 plate appearances this season between the Dodgers and Pirates. He will become a free agent if he is not claimed.

Xavier Paul's name was involved in a fraud attempt down in the Australian Baseball League.

According to MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch, former minor league outfielder Breland Brown posed as an agent and told ABL officials that Paul would play in the Australian league this offseason if Brown himself was also invited. When Paul didn't show, authorities were alerted and Brown's attempt at landing a contract were thwarted. It's an odd news item, but Paul should ultimately espace the fiasco unscathed.

Xavier Paul picked up a pinch-hit single in his return to action Saturday.

It's the first time Paul has been on the field since he was scratched from Wednesday's lineup with a tweaked hamstring. He should be available to start Sunday, if needed.

Xavier Paul tested out his hamstring by running before Friday's game and felt good.

Paul was a late scratch from Wednesday's lineup after his right hamstring tightened up on him. It sounds like he could be ready to play sometime over the weekend.

Xavier Paul was a late scratch from Wednesday's lineup due to tightness in his right hamstring.

The Pirates will reevaluated Paul during the game and again on Thursday. Garrett Jones moved to right field to take Paul's place, with Matt Diaz sliding into Jones' spot at DH.

Xavier Paul picked up the Pirates' lone RBI in their 5-1 loss to the Indians on Friday.

Paul has now driven in three runs in his past three games, and is batting .341 in the month of June. His playing time in right field should only continue to increase until he cools off.

Xavier Paul may soon start drawing more starts in right field.

Both Garrett Jones and Matt Diaz are struggling at the plate, while Paul is off to a 7-for-10 start this month. Paul is just a career .254 hitter, however, and has only one lifetime home run, making him a tough sell in NL-only leagues.

Xavier Paul went 4-for-5 with a triple, two steals and three runs scored Thursday against the Mets.

Paul, who hit just .220 with three RBI in 41 at-bats in his first five weeks with the Pirates, has six hits and three RBI the last two days. With Jose Tabata struggling mightily against right-handers, one could argue the Pirates should be giving Paul more time in left field. Still, since they're really not a contender, despite their decent start, they're likely better off keeping Tabata in his full-time role.

Xavier Paul went 2-for-4 with two RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Sunday's win over the Rockies.

This was Paul's fourth game with the Pirates since being claimed off waivers from the Dodgers last week. It's also one of the best games of his career. Paul came into this game as a career .230 hitter at the major league level with just one homer and three steals in 148 at-bats. Leave him on waivers.

Pirates claimed OF Xavier Paul off waivers from the Dodgers.

Paul was designated for assignment by the Dodgers last Monday. He has posted some strong numbers in the minors and the Bucs will hope that his talent shines with a change of scenery. The 26-year-old outfielder has 160 big league plate appearances to his name.
