Twins signed INF Doug Bernier to a minor league contract.

Bernier was forced to wait until mid-February to receive a minor league deal prior to this season, but smartly didn't take much time to accept the Twins' offer. Bernier was outrighted off the 40-man roster last week, but his chances of ever reaching the majors again are simply better in Minnesota than anywhere else in the league. The 33-year-old utility man slashed only .226/.339/.283 across 33 games for the Twins this season, his first big league action since 2008.

Twins signed INF Doug Bernier to a minor league contract

It's not clear if the deal includes a spring training invite. Bernier was used primarily as a utility infielder the last two seasons with the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate and hasn't appeared in the majors since 2008.

Yankees signed INF Doug Bernier to a minor league contract.

Bernier was also given an invitation to spring training, but he doesn't have a prayer of landing a spot on New York's Opening Day roster. The 30-year-old hit just .240/.301/.325 at the Triple-A level in 2010.

Pirates signed IF Doug Bernier to a minor league contract.

He'll also be invited to Spring Training. Bernier, 29, spent all of last season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees organization, batting just .181/.305/.238 with no homers and 20 RBI in 227 at-bats. He knows how to take a pitch, but really suffered after leaving the Colorado organization, giving credence to the notion that he was a product of his environment.
