Date:

Collin Cowgill went 3-for-6 with a run scored in Tuesday's loss to the Rockies.

Cowgill has struggled since his big Opening Day, as he had just one hit in his previous five starts. He had a nice showing in Tuesday's nightcap, though, before a late Ruben Tejada error cost the Metropolitans the game. He'll continue to start in center field against lefties and should be owned in NL-only formats.
Apr 17 - 1:14 AM

Collin Cowgill is not in Saturday's lineup against the Marlins.

The Mets are giving Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Jordany Valdespin playing time this weekend, but Cowgill should continue to serve as the regular center fielder. Lucas Duda will also be out of the lineup Saturday. Mike Baxter is starting in right field and batting leadoff.

Collin Cowgill is not in Friday's lineup against the Marlins.

Jordany Valdespin will make the start in center field and bat leadoff against Alex Sanabia. Cowgill should continue to get pretty regular playing time, but Mets manager Terry Collins just wanted to find a way to get Valdespin in the lineup.
Apr 5 - 4:06 PM

Collin Cowgill went 2-for-5 with his first career grand slam and two runs scored in the Mets' 11-2 win over the Padres on Monday.

Cowgill's other hit was a double. The 26-year-old is probably best utilized as a platoon player, but the Mets are giving him a shot as their center fielder and leadoff man in the early going. He should provide enough pop and speed to be relevant in NL-only formats and even some deeper mixed leagues.
Apr 1 - 4:20 PM

Collin Cowgill will open 2013 as the Mets' everyday center fielder.

Cowgill had an impressive spring and the Mets will go into the season with him as their full-time starter. Kirk Nieuwenhuis made the Opening Day roster, but will function as a backup initially. If Cowgill can continue to hit right-handed pitching, he should have decent value in NL-only leagues.
Mar 30 - 3:06 PM

Collin Cowgill went 2-for-2 with a homer and a walk versus the Braves on Monday.

Cowgill is batting .333 with four homers in 57 at-bats. He's certain to start against left-handers for the Mets, and he's making a case for starting against a lot of righties as well. With a little pop and a little more speed, he's an interesting option in NL-only leagues.
Mar 25 - 4:30 PM

Collin Cowgill hit his second spring homer Wednesday off the Nationals' Drew Storen.

Cowgill is hitting .379 and that doesn't count his 3-for-4 day against Venezuela last week. He's making a case to start in center field over Kirk Nieuwenhuis against right-handers. He should already have the job versus lefties.
Mar 13 - 4:26 PM

Collin Cowgill went 3-for-4 with a couple of doubles and two RBI against Venezuela on Wednesday.

It's the Mets' right-handed-hitting outfielders -- Cowgill and Marlon Byrd (who hit a three-run homer today) -- playing the best this spring. Which isn't quite ideal. The Mets could keep both, but they were hoping that left-handed hitters Lucas Duda, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Mike Baxter and Jordany Valdespin would step up.
Mar 6 - 5:29 PM

Collin Cowgill homered Wednesday and is 4-for-7 with a couple of walks this spring.

With Jordany Valdespin being used as an infielder at the moment, perhaps the Mets will have room for both Cowgill and Marlon Byrd in the outfield. Cowgill, who was picked up from the A's in December, would make sense as a platoon-mate for Kirk Nieuwenhuis.
Feb 27 - 4:41 PM

Mets acquired OF Collin Cowgill from the Athletics for INF Jefry Marte.

Cowgill, 26, owns a .255/.319/.311 batting line through 216 plate appearances in the big leagues. A right-handed hitter, he'll likely be used as a fourth outfielder in Queens. The trade clears a spot on Oakland's 40-man roster for the recently-signed Hiroyuki Nakajima.

Athletics recalled OF Collin Cowgill from Triple-A Sacramento.

Cowgill appeared in 32 games with Oakland before losing his roster spot to injury. He could push for a platoon behind Josh Reddick, but his role in September doesn't figure to be prominent.

Athletics activated OF Collin Cowgill from the 15-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento.

Cowgill completed his rehab assignment on Monday but the A's aren't prepared to bring him back to the major leagues. He was batting just .271/.343/.313 in 32 games before spraining his left ankle in late June.

Collin Cowgill (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment Monday with High-A Stockton.

Cowgill performed baserunning drills Saturday with no issues and is ready to test out his ankle in games. He should return later this month if he can avoid a setback.
Sun, Jul 8, 2012 02:29:00 PM

Collin Cowgill (ankle) did baserunning drills Saturday and is nearing a rehab assignment.

Cowgill should be available to rejoin the A's later this month, but he's no guarantee to be added to the big league roster. He batted .271/.343/.313 with a homer and three steals before landing on the DL late last month.
