Indians optioned OF Collin Cowgill to Triple-A Columbus.

The move clears a spot for Lonnie Chisenhall, who is ready to return from the disabled list. Cowgill was batting .083 (1-for-12) with seven strikeouts in nine games.
Apr 20 - 2:03 PM

Collin Cowgill has cracked the Indians' roster.

Michael Brantley is recovering from shoulder surgery, Lonnie Chisenhall is on the disabled list with a forearm injury, and Abraham Almonte got popped this spring with a PED suspension. So there could be some starts available to Cowgill in Cleveland while all three of those outfielders work back. That doesn't necessarily make him fantasy relevant. Cowgill, 29, is a 236/.299/.334 career major league hitter.
Mar 28 - 1:53 PM

Collin Cowgill and Joey Butler are the favorites to land Cleveland's last two outfield spots.

With Michael Brantley (labrum) likely out for the first month, the Indians will have to mix and match at outfield. Rajai Davis, Abraham Almonte and Lonnie Chisenhall are assured roster spots, but the rest of Cleveland's outfield is up for grabs. Cowgill has 308 games of big league experience while Butler saw a career-high 257 at-bats for Tampa Bay last season. Michael Choice, Robbie Grossman and Shane Robinson will also be at Indians camp.

Indians and OF Collin Gowgill avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1 million contract.

The Indians acquired Cowgill from the Angels on Wednesday and immediately inked him to a $1 million contract, as he was eligible for arbitration. He hit .188/.233/.290 with a home run in 69 at-bats with the Angels during the 2015 campaign. A wrist injury forced him to miss much of the season. He'll provide outfield depth with the Tribe entering 2016.

Indians acquired OF Collin Cowgill from the Angels for cash considerations.

A wrist injury sidelined Cowgill from May through August, though he did manage a cup of coffee in September. The 29-year-old outfielder struggled in 69 at-bats with the Angels, hitting just .188/.233/.290 with a singular home run. He'll serve as bench depth for the Indians.

Collin Cowgill (wrist) has been cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment with High-A Inland Empire.

Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register suspects that Cowgill, who's been out since late May, will be optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake once he's deemed fully healthy. The utility outfielder should be a September callup.

It's the first time he's done so since being shut down with a nagging right wrist injury. While Cowgill appears to finally be making progress, he might not have a role with the Angels any longer.

Collin Cowgill (wrist) is currently shut down from baseball activity.

Cowgill has been unable to get over the hump with his ailing right wrist, so he'll be given some extended rest in hopes that it will allow the injury to heal. The outfielder was moved to the 60-day disabled list recently and won't be eligible to return for a few weeks, but it's sounding like he won't be ready at that point, anyway.

Angels transferred OF Collin Cowgill from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Cory Rasmus. Cowgill is making progress from a sprained joint in his right wrist but now can't be activated until late July.
