Rays signed RHP Bryan Augenstein to a minor league contract.

Augenstein had an uninspiring 4.72 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 40 minor league innings last season. He'll simply function as organizational relief depth for the Rays.

Cardinals designated RHP Bryan Augenstein for assignment.

Augenstein spent two months on the disabled list earlier this season with a groin injury and wasn't all that effective when healthy. The 25-year-old should pass through waivers and land back at Triple-A Memphis.

Cardinals transferred RHP Bryan Augenstein from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.

The Cardinals made the move in order to clear a spot for the newly-claimed Jess Todd on the 40-man roster. Augenstein is currently sidelined with a strained right groin and will now be eligible to return on June 12.

Bryan Augenstein (groin) played long toss Friday.

Augenstein is making progress in his throwing program but is still a couple weeks away. With the emergence of Eduardo Sanchez and Fernando Salas, he'll likely be assigned to Triple-A once he's healthy.

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Bryan Augenstein (right groin strain) will be placed on the disabled list prior to Wednesday's game.

"I don't know if my foot got caught or not, but I felt a little twinge," Augenstein said. "I just thought because the mound, there was a little hole or whatever. And then the pitch when I threw it, the second one, it just went." The young reliever was having a mediocre start to the season before Tuesday night's blow-up, when he gave up four earned runs to the Diamondbacks in 1 2/3 innings. The injury likely had something to do with it.

Bryan Augenstein picked up a win in relief after retiring all five batters he faced Wednesday against the Mets.

Augenstein is trying to overtake either Miguel Batista or Fernando Salas in the competition for bullpen spots. He's making a strong case with his 0.93 ERA, but he's probably still something of an underdog, particularly since the Cards have been shopping for relief help.

Cardinals claimed RHP Bryan Augenstein off waivers from the Diamondbacks.

The 24-year-old Augenstein posted an unimpressive 6.49 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in 129 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season. He has a long way to go as a pitcher and won't be a factor in 2011.

Diamondbacks optioned RHP Bryan Augenstein to Triple-A Reno.

Augenstein was lit up for nine runs -- eight earned -- in five innings this spring, effectively taking him out of consideration for the starting rotation. With Brandon Webb likely delayed to start the season, Rodrigo Lopez, Kevin Mulvey or possibly Kris Benson could fill in as a fifth starter.

Augenstein struggled in two starts for the Diamondbacks earlier this year, going 0-1 with a 7.94 ERA and 1.68 WHIP through 11 1/3 innings. He will add depth to the bullpen in September.

Diamondbacks optioned RHP Bryan Augenstein to Triple-A Reno.

Augenstein struggled through two starts with a 0-1 record, 7.94 ERA and 1.68 WHIP through 11 1/3 innings. Coupled with yesterday's doubleheader, the Diamondbacks needed fresh arms in their bullpen.

Bryan Augenstein was knocked around for six runs -- five of them earned -- over five innings in a 11-9 extra-inning loss on Wednesday night.

So he's allowed 10 runs over his first two starts. Tonight he was punished to the tune of seven hits, including a go-ahead home run to Jeremy Hermida, while walking two and striking out just one. He put himself in an early four-run hole in the second inning and just never got comfortable. You have to wonder what kind of a leash he has at this point.
